LIDL PROMO:  Our Ladies Club received great news last week with confirmation that they have earned a new set of Jersey’s through the Lidl Ireland Serious Support Campaign.  The Ladies Club intend to get an alternative jersey kit for use by our older girls/senior ladies teams.  This has been a serious club effort over many weeks and they wish to acknowledge the help received from the Boys’ Juvenile and Senior Men’s club in helping get them over the line.

UKRAINE APPEAL: Thanks to everyone who helped in anyway with our Ukraine Appeal last weekend. A special word of thanks to our own Daniel Bohan  who coordinated the event.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Kenmare Shamrocks 2-4 (10); Austin Stacks 1-13 (16).

With a ten points winning margin against Gneeveguilla in the opening round our Seniors continued their winning ways with a trip to Kenmare of last Saturday evening (2nd April) in round 2 of the Co. League. With a strong cross-field breeze favouring no team as such, it took both sides awhile to settle with the first score of the game coming in the 9th from a David Mannix free. Six minutes later a brilliant move started by goalkeeper, Wayne Guthrie, with Jack O’Shea and Cian Purcell also involved, saw our first score from play coming from Gearóid Fitzgerald. David Mannix was then on target from play five minutes later and he followed that with two pointed frees with 26 minutes on the clock. A minute later Cian Purcell laid off to Conor Horan who put over from play. Then just on the stroke of  half time the home side got their first and only score of the half with a pointed free to leave us ahead by 0-6 to 0-1 at the break.

We continued to dominate after the resumption and at the end of the third quarter we had extended our lead to ten points (1-9 to 0-2). Our three points came from Gearóid Fitzgerald, Eoghan Carroll and Fiachna Mangan  with our goal of the game coming in between – a brilliant finish from Conor Horan.

The home side came more into the game during the final quarter – outscoring us by 2-2 to 0-4) – our four points coming from four differed players – Shane O’Callaghan, Jack O’Shea and Eoghan Carroll from play and a pointed free by Darragh O’Brien. But we had enough done during the course of the hour to come away with a well-deserved victory. Michael O’Donnell was deservedly named the Celsius Menware Man of the Match.

Team: Wayne Guthrie, Luke Chester, Barry Walsh, Niall Fitzmaurice, Eoghan Carroll (0-2), Jack O’Shea (0-1), Donagh McMahon, Michael O’Donnell, Ronan Shanahan, David Fitzmaurice, Fiachna Mangan (Capt) (0-1), Conor Horan (1-1), Cian Purcell, Gearóid Fitzgerald (0-2), David Mannix (0-4 – three frees).

Subs used: Shane O’Callaghan (41m) (0-1), Paul  O’Sullivan (46m), Conor Myers (49m); Darragh O’Brien (49m) (0-1 free); Dara Barry Walsh (52m).

We now have a home game against An Ghaeltacht in round 3 of the League which has been fixed for next Sunday (10th April)with a 2pm throw-in.

CONGRATS: And on football let us congratulate Kerry on their comprehensive win over Mayo (3-19 to 0-13) in the NFL Final. Lovely to see Joseph O’Connor holding the winning trophy after the match with David Clifford. This was their 23rd title with their 1st away back in 1928. They are now miles ahead of Dublin with 13 titles and Mayo in 3rd spot with 12. Cork come next with 8 wins.

Congratulations also to Kieran Donaghy and his Garvey’s Warriors on their great win in the Super League last Saturday.

B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-6; Scartaglin 1-6.

After a big defeat in the opening round our B team can consider themselves unlucky with just a draw in the round 2 in Connolly Park on Saturday evening (2nd April).
