SENIOR FOOTBALL: St. Marys 1-11; Austin Stacks 0-13.

With three wins in our opening three rounds against Gneeveguilla, Kenmare Shamrocks and An Ghaeltacht our trip to Cahersiveen on Sunday afternoon (24th April) saw our first League defeat of the campaign with the home side winning the game with a pointed free in the last seconds of the game.

The sides were level on six different occasions throughout the hour, including at half time with the score at seven points each. We had a very good third quarter outscoring the opposition by five points to one to give a lead of four points at that stage (0-12to 0-8). But Marys turned the tables around in the final quarter keeping us to just one point while adding 1-3 themselves – the goal coming from a quickly-taken free in the 49th minute.

Team: Ben Quilter, Eoghan Carroll, Barry Walsh, Niall Fitzmaurice, Conor Horan, Brendan O’Sullivan (0-1), Donagh McMahon (0-1), Michael O’Donnell (Capt) (0-3 frees, Michael O’Gara (0-1), David Fitzmaurice (0-1), Fiachna Mangan, Gearóid Sheehan, Seán Quilter (0-5 – four frees), Gearóid Fitzgerald, Cian Purcell (0-1).

Sub used: Conor Myers (52m).

The games are now coming ‘thick and fast’ with Round 5, at home to Dingle on next Sunday (1st May) at 2pm.

B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 0-4; Fossa 2-15.

Fossa completely dominated this Rd 4 game from start to finish.  The half time score was Fossa 0-7 Austin Stacks B 0-1 (Stacks solitary score coming from a Donagh Mc Kivergan free).  Any hopes of a Stacks second half come back were quickly dashed as straight from the thrown in Kenmare’s Emmett O’Shea struck for a goal.  Stacks could only add on 3 more points – 2 more from Donagh Mc Kivergan and a point from play by Shane Bastible while Fossa finished with a total tally of 2-15.

Team::  Brian Hogan, Kevin Barry, David Burke, John Murphy, Andrew Morrissey, Evan Foley, Cian Dillane, Greg Scanlon, Cillian Litchfield, Dean Rusk, Dean Scanlon, Calvin Foley, Daniel O’Rourke, Donagh Mc Kivergan 0-3 (2 frees), Shane Bastible (0-1).

Subs used: Enda Cahill, Sean Ryan, Shane Kelliher and Shane Greensmyth.

Our B team are also in action in the Co. League at the week-end. They travel to play Cromane on next Sunday (1st May) for a 2pmthrow-in.

THE C TEAM: Our C Team’s R3 Co. League game, away to Listry, on the week-end after next, has now been brought forward a day to Friday evening, 6th May with a 7.30pm start.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Kenmare Shamrocks 1-13; Austin Stacks 0-11.

Fitzgerald Stadium was the venue for this Sunday evening’s Co. League final and as usual it was in perfect condition. We had a very good first half at the end of which we led by 0-8 to 0-6 with four of those Kenmare points coming from frees. Damien Hogan scored four of ours from play with Paddy Lane putting over three (two from frees) and Thomas Deregee also scoring one from play.

Kenmare came out with all guns blazing in the second half and inside six minutes had turned this game on its head when they scored a goal and four points to give them a five points lead at that stage. For the remainder of the game both sides scored three points each, all ours coming from Paddy Lane. (one from a free).

So a well deserved victory in this Co. League Final for a very good Kenmare side.

Team: Michael Tansley, Donnacha Horgan, Luke Casey, Seán Heaslip, Jack Murphy, Seán Moynihan, Daniel Kirby, Colm Browne, Aaron Nolan, Thomas Deregee (0-1), Noah Townsend, Marc Carmody Paddy Lane (0-6 – two frees), Damien Hogan (0-4), Pádraig O’Halloran.
