SENIOR FOOTBALL: With our round six game away to Dr. Crokes put back to Friday week (27th May) we will now play Rathmore at home in round 7 of the Co. League. This game has now been re-fixed for this Friday evening (20th May) at 7.30pm.

B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-6; Castlegregory 2-17.

After a good first half when we trailed the visitors by just one point (0-8 to 1-4) we then had to give way to a stronger outfit on the day in this 6th round of the Co. League played on a warm, sunny afternoon in Connolly Park (15th May). We got off to a very good start when Conor Horan raced through for the opening point of the game after just 24 seconds. The visitors then had three points on the board before we put over our second in the 15th minute from a Darragh O’Brien free. They then added a further three points before Shane O’Callaghan scored our only goal of the game in the 20th minute. Both sides then added two points each before half time – ours coming from another Darragh O’Brien free and one from play by Jordan Kissane.

Four minutes after the resumption the West Kerry boys had scored a goal and three points. We responded with two points in the 7th and 15th minutes – both  by Jordan Kissane (one from a free).

That was as good as it got for us as Castle dominated the closing quarter scoring a further 1-6 without reply. We now have a home game against Cordal in round 7 with the game now switched to Sunday afternoon (22ndt May) at 2pm.

Team: Ben Quilter, Luke Chester, Ciarán O’Connell, Ruairí O’Connell, Eoghan Carroll, Donagh McMahon, Dara Barry-Walsh, Conor Horan (0-1), Shane Carroll, Gearóid Sheehan, Darragh O’Brien (0-2 frees), Jordan Kissane (0-3 – one free), Conor Myers, Shane Bastible, Shane O’Callaghan (1-0).

Subs used: Dean Rusk (15m), Cian Dillane (34m), Andrew Morrissey (50m), Daniel O’Rourke (52m).

MINOR FOOTBALL: After going down away to Laune Rangers in the opening round our Minors were in Ardfert on Monday evening (16th May) for a 2nd round game in the Central League – check or website for details .In the meantime let us congratulate the Kerry Minors on their big win over Cork(1-16 to 0-5) in the Munster semi final last Thursday (12th May). We had three players on the panel – Colm Browne (who unfortunately did not start because of an injury), Paddy Lane who had a brilliant game at corner forward, scoring four points from play and laying off the ball to Cormac Dillon for the only goal of the game  and Michael Tansley the reserve goalkeeper. The Munster Final is fixed for Wednesday, 1st June at a venue to be confirmed, with Kerry playing the winners of the other semi final between Tipperary and Cork, yes Cork have a second chance to qualify for the final with the new system in place this year.
