SEASON’S GREETINGS: We wish all our members, supporters and readers of our Notes a very happy Christmas and a successful 2023.
SF MANAGER: Chairman, Shane Lynch, and his colleagues have completed the process of appointing a new Manager for our Senior Football Team to succeed Wayne Quillinan and Billy Lee is the man to be appointed. Billy, of course, will already be familiar with the Club as he was part of Stephen Stack’s Management team during Stephen’s last year in charge of the Senior Team in 2016. Best of luck Billy as we move into the new season.
U21 ANNIVERSARY: A special night of celebration will take place in the Club House on the Thursday after Christmas (29thDec) to mark the 20th anniversary of the Club’s first and only victory in the U21 County Championship in 2002. Twenty six players were in the squad that season, players that became household names thereafter, not alone in the Club but throughout the County and the Country as well. The management team that year was John Joe Sugrue, Jackie Power, Maurice Collins, Denny Long and Damien McLoughlin. We had comprehensive wins in the four games we played in the competiton. We defeated Laune Rangers by seven points in the opening round (2-6 to 0-5), Shannon Rangers by seven in the quarter final (0-4 to 0-7), South Kerry by six in the semi final (2-13 to 2-7) and Mid Kerry by seven in the Final (0-13 to 2-0). No doubt the night will remember both Jackie and Maurice who have passed away since as well as the only player of that squad who is no longer with us, Andy McAllen.
CLUB AGM: The Senior Club AGM will take place on Sunday, 15th January. More details later.
CONGRATULATIONS: And how appropriate that we offer congratulations to Club Mentor Brendan Smith on his appointment as the new Principal of CBS Primary Tralee. Brendan is set to take up his new post in January 2023. Brendan was one of those 26 U21 players who will be celebrating that 20th anniversary victory next week.
CONGRATULATIONS: also Martin Bracker O’Regan and his wife Carmel who have become Grandparents recently. Their daughter, Gemma and her husband, Mark Rogers became parents recently with the birth of a baby girl, Grace Arabella.
AND ALSO CONGRATULATION to former Club player, Sarah Donaghy (sister of Kieran) and Gareth Kenna who were married last Saturday (17th Dec).
