MINOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 3-15; Laune Rangers 0-6.

Our Minors have just won the Club’s 7th Co. League title with a comprehensive win over Laune Rangers in Fitzgerald Stadium on this sunny Monday evening. And how appropriate that it was 2023 as it is exactly 50 years ago when we won our first title away back in 1973 – that iconic year when we also won that season’s SF Championship. Well done to the whole squad and to their gallant mentors William Kirby, Ritchie Conway, Shane Lucid and Dave Scanlon.

PAUL LUCEY RUN. The Paul Lucey Run for the Rock is back again for 2023 and will take place on the May Bank Holiday Monday (1st May). This year the Run will be followed by a Family Fun Day for Adults and Children of the Club and the wider community. We are hoping to encourage as may kids, teenagers, parents, grandparents, friends and family members to get outdoors that day to run or walk the 5km promoting health and positivity within the Club and the community.

The event will begin at the entrance to the Austin Stacks Clubhouse at 11am and will take in the traditional enjoyable route up Caherslee and down the Skinny Mile section of the Greenway. Registration is now open on www.eventbrite.ie or on the morning of the event from 9.30am to 10am.

SENIOR FOOTBALL. Round 4 of the Co. League goes ahead at the week-end with the short trip for our lads across town to take on Kerins O’Rahillys in Strand Road. Throw-in has now been switched to Sunday (23rd April) with a 2pm throw-in.

With no win in our opening three rounds we are bottom of the League table along with Gneeveguilla, Rahillys on the other hand are mid table with a win, a draw and a defeat in their opening three rounds,

B FOOTBALL. Our B Team are also without a win in their opening two games of the Co. League – going down to Lispole and Moyvane. We are now due travel to Finuge on this Sunday afternoon (23rd April) for a round 3 game at 2pm although this may be changed to avoid clashing with the SF game.

THE C TEAM (Black).; Fossa 1-11; Austin Stacks 1-5.

This round 1 Co. League game, postponed at the end of March due to the bad weather, went ahead in Fossa on a cold and windy Wednesday evening (12th April) and even though the home side had six points to spare at the end our Team Mentors, Kevin O’Carroll, Aidan and Tommy O’Connor and Ricky Moloney can be well pleased with the very good show displayed by our boys in their very first outing of the season.

Joey Kinsella got the show off the road with a point from play in the 3rdminute after good work by Enda Cahill. Joey was also the scorer of our other two points of the half, both from well-taken frees, and at half time Fossa led by 0-8 to 0-3.

With the elements in our favour  in the second half we did much better, scoring 1-2 with the opposition just going one better with 1-3. Brian O’Sullivan scored a goal and a point in this half, both from play, with JoeyKinsella on target again from a late on pointed free. The margin of defeat would have been greater were it not for at least two outstanding saves by Kyle Fitzgibbon and goalkeeping, like Andrew Morrissey the previous week with the B Team, has not been Kyle’s regular position.

Team: Kyle Fitzgibbon, Shane Kelliher, Chairdhe Fitzgerald, Tom McLoughlin, Billy Stack, Alain Creagh, Evan Foley, Keelan Pierce, Enda Cahill, St. John Hegarty, Joey Kinsella (0-4 – threefrees), Dale Counihan, Brian O’Sullivan (1-1), Gearóid Kilgallen, James Charles (Capt).

Subs used: David Leonard (ht), Conor Lowe (ht), David Hannafin (37m).

After the game Kevin O’Carroll on behalf of the Club presented Enda Cahill with the Celsius Menswear MOTM Award.

With a bye in round 2 our next outing is a home game in round 3 against Rathmore on the week-end of 6th May.

THE D TEAM. Austin Stacks 5-14; Scartaglin 1-1.

We have official permission to name them the D Team and what a performance they gave in their very first outing in the Club’s 106 year history. Team Mentors Shane and Liam Lynch and Eamonn O’Reilly will be well satisfied with the performance they gave on a sunny, warm Sunday afternoon in Connolly Park (16th April).

Scartaglin opened the scoring with a point from play inside the first minute and that was the only score they got from play during the course of the game. Now it has to be said that most of the Scart boys were at a wedding the day before and some of them were collected from Ballygarry Hotel on their way in to Connolly Park.

Playing 13 a side we also used three subs and nine of our 16 players got on the score sheet. We led at half time by 3-8 to 0-1.

Scarts only score in the second half was from a penalty goal in the 39th minute while we added a further 2-6 to our first half total.

Team: (13 a-side). Brian Horgan, John Murphy, Joe Reidy (0-2), Ruairí O’Connell, (No Number 5), Ciarán O’Connell, Luke Casey (2-0), Dean Rusk (0-1), Luke Chester (0-1), Evan Foley (1-4), Noah Townsend, Seán Moynihan (0-1), Damien Hogan (1-0), Dean Scanlon. No Number 15.

Subs used: Donagh McKivergan (23m) (1-4 – one free), Gavin Slattery (ht) (0-1), Ger Teahon (ht).

After missing our opening Co. League outing away to Duagh a few weeks ago (an unplayable pitch in Duagh due to the adverse weather) we are now due to travel to Beaufort for around 3 game on the week-end of 6th May.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TADGH. He played Club Football back in the 1960s. He succeeded the late Frank King as Club Chairman in 1976 and today he is one of the regular members attending Club games, usually with his good friend Jim Gannon. We refer to Tadgh McMahon (father of Tim and Elma Nix) who celebrates his 80th birthday on this Thursday (20thApril). Happy birthday Tadgh from all in the Club and the local community.
