PAUL LUCEY RUN. There was another great turn-out for the annual Paul Lucey Run for the Rock on this May Bank Holiday Monday. Thanks once again to everyone who participated in the event..

SENIOR FOOTBALL. Rathmore 2-6 (12); Austin Stacks 1-12 (15).

Another good day at the office by our Seniors with a very good win in Rathmore in round five of the Co. League. The win, together with last week’s victory against O’Rahillys moves us out of the danger zone into 8th position on the League table.

The home side started well with an early goal in the 5th minute after Sean Quilter had opened the scoring with two points just before that. However a well-taken goal by Colm Browne in the 14th minute got us back on track and with two more Sean Quilter points and one by Shane O’Callaghan we went in at half time three points to the good (1-5 to1-2).

Rathmore equalized again inside a minute after the resumption with their second goal of the game. That was as good as it got for the home side as we went on to add seven more points to three for the opposition during the remainder of the second half.

Seán Quilter was again on target with two pointed frees with Michael O’Donnell pointing from a forty five and the remaining four coming from play – Donagh McKivergan (3) and Luke Casey.

Team: Ben Quilter, Niall Fitzmaurice, Barry Shanahan, Jack Murphy, Paul O’Sullivan, Colm Browne (1-0), Eoghan Carroll, Michael O’Donnell (0-1 – forty five), Michael O’Gara, Fiachna Mangan, Seán Quilter (0-6 – four frees), Shane Carroll, Donagh McKivergan (0-3), Shane O’Callaghan (0-1), Shane Bastible.

Subs used: Conor Myers and Luke Casey (0-1).

Our round 6 game at home to table-toppers Dr. Crokes which was originally fixed for mid May has been brought forward to this coming Saturday evening (6th May) with a throw-in time in Connolly Park at 7pm.

B FOOTBALL. Austin Stacks 0-14; Laune Rangers 2-11.

With just three points of a difference at the end this 4th Co. League game of six played in Connolly Park on this Sunday afternoon (30th April) was in doubt right up to the final whistle.

We started well scoring the first three points inside the opening ten minutes and led by five points to one at the end of the first quarter. Pa McCarthy (2) and Jimmy Charles from play with two pointed frees by Damien Hogan were our scorers.

Rangers however dominated the second quarter scoring two goals and four points while we managed just two points, both from play by Gearóid Sheehan and Joe Reidy. This left the visitors ahead by 2-5 to 0-7 at the break.

We added a further seven points during the second half to six for the opposition, but even though we came close on a number of occasions to get those vital goals they did not materialize on this occasion. Four of our second half points came from Damien Hogan frees with the other three coming from play by Calvin Foley (2) and Evan Foley.

Team: Brian Horgan, Tom McLoughlin, John Murphy, Conor Lowe, Evan Foley (0-1), Ruairí O’Connell, Andrew Morrissey, Cillian Litchfield, Joe Reidy (0-1), Gearóid Kilgallen, Pa McCarthy (0-2), Gearóid Sheehan (0-1), Damien Hogan (0-6 – frees), Calvin Foley (0-2), James Charles (0-1).

Sub used: Greg Scanlon (41m).

We now have two more rounds to play, away to Ballylongford (w/e 14th May) and at home to Duagh (w/e 21stMay).

MINOR FOOTBALL: Keel/Listry 1-10; Austin Stacks 3-12.

On a fine dry evening in Connolly Park last Monday (24th April) our Minors won the first round (of three) of the Central League  with a comfortable win over Ardfert.

We now have away games in our remaining two rounds against Keel/Listry on next Monday (1st May) and against Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane on the following Monday (8th May).

THE C TEAM:

After a defeat away to Fossa in round 1 and a bye in round  we now have a home game in round 3 against Rathmore.  The game is fixed for next Friday evening (5th May) in Connolly Park at 7.30pm.

THE D TEAM.

After missing our opening Co. League game away to Duagh a few weeks ago (an unplayable pitch in Duagh due to the adverse weather) and a brilliant win in the team’s first ever game last week (winning at home against Scartaglin) we are now due to travel to Beaufort for a round 3 game with the fixture still to be confirmed as we write.
