Austin Stacks CrestSENIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Seniors opening game of the season (round 1 of the Town League), against John Mitchels, has been brought forward 18 hours from the original time. It will now take place at the Mitchels pitch (note change of venue) on next Saturday evening (13th Feb) at 6.30pm.

In the remaining three rounds we have a home game against Na Gaeil (21st Feb) and then two more away games against Ballymac (28th Feb) and Kerins O’Rahillys (13th March). The top two teams qualify for the Final, on a date to be confirmed.

The week after that (Sun, 20th March) it’s our first major game of the season – the Final of the 2015 Co. League away to Dr. Crokes which will double up as the opening round game of this season’s Co. League.

MINOR FOOTBALL:

Our round 2 Town League game against Na Gaeil did not go ahead last Saturday (6th Feb) as the continuous rain made the pitches at Killeen and Connolly Park unplayable.

Our round 3 game, at home against Ballymac, is scheduled for next Saturday (13th Feb) at 4pm but with Strom Imogen battering the whole place at the weekend we can’t be sure of anything going ahead as scheduled at the moment. Keep in touch with Club Website.

CONGRATULATIONS:

Last year it was Ardfert and Brosna who did the honours. Last Saturday (6th Feb) it was the turn of two Clubs from the southern end of the county – St. Marys and Templenoe – who won their All Ireland Finals in Croke Park.

St. Marys won the Intermediate Final (they had already won the Junior Championship back in 2011) and Templenoe won the Junior Final. Congratulations to both on a fantastic achievement.

On this form Templenoe will be formidable opponents for all teams they meet in Division 1 of the Co. League this season. We are lucky that we won’t have to encounter them until the very last round of the League – sometime next September.

CONGRATULATIONS:

To Marie Crowe (wife of former Club footballer, Billy Sheehan) who won the MacNamee Award for Sports Journalist of the Year for her superb article on how triumph (our victory in the County and Munster Club Championship 2014) and tragedy (the sadness, during that time, at the death of Darragh and Niamh Long’s one month old baby, Siún) can go hand in hand; to Tommy O’Connor (Kerry County Librarian and the North Kerry Hurling Board) on his fine publication on North Kerry Hurling; and to Radio Kerry’s Weeshie Fogarty who won the Hall of Fame Award.

Well done to all three.
