SENIOR HURLING: Our Hurlers are due to play two games in the space of 48 hours, both in the Co. League (Div 3). First up is the scheduled round 3 game against St. Pats (East Kerry). MINOR FOOTBALL; Dingle 1-9; Austin Stacks 1-14.

Another good display by our Minors saw them come away from Dingle on last Thursday evening (23rd June) with a well-deserved victory in round 1 of the Central League. Even though we played with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half we still trailed by two points (0-5 to 0-3) after 18 minutes (Cian Liston with two and Joseph O’Connor our scorers). However in the closing 12 minutes of the half we added four points without reply to give us a two points lead at half time (0-7 to 0-5). Cian Liston and Joseph O’Connor were on target again as well as Philip Quilter and Michael Linnane

We continued our dominance early in the second half and by the 39th minute had extended our lead to nine points after scoring 1-4 without reply. Three of those points came from wing back, Conor Lowe with Michael Linnane adding his second of the evening. Our goal came in the 35th minute following a beautiful move started by team captain, Brandon Patterson, progressed further by Philip Quilter, who found Seán Ryan, and Seán’s cross was won by Joseph O’Connor who shot low to the net.

Dingle’s first two points of this half came in the 41st and 43rd minutes, but we followed with three more in quick succession with Michael Linnane putting over from a free and two more by Conor Lowe, bringing his total for the evening to five, all scored in the second half, and all put over from brilliant runs up field from his wing back position. And good and all as Tomás Ó Sé was, he never achieved that in any one game with Kerry. We led at that stage (with 12 minutes remaining) by 1-14 to 0-7, but we didn’t score again for the remainder of the game, while the home side added 1-2, with, admittedly, their goal coming against the run of play in the 61st minute.

Team: Robbie Murphy, Shane Kelliher, Tomás Sheehy, Brandon Patterson (Capt), Odhran Liston, Ciaran O’Reilly, Conor Lowe (0-5), Philip Quilter (0-1), David Fitzmaurice, Michael Linnane (0-2 – one free), Fergal Ryan, Donagh McKivergan, Cian Liston (0-3), Joseph O’Connor (1-1), Harry O’Callaghan.

Subs used: Gearóid Sheehan (39m), Joe Looby (45m), Dylan Casey (47m), Donagh McMahon (50m), David Couchman (56m).

It was good to see both Gearóid Sheehan and David Couchman making their full Minor debuts. Both of course did play in the recent inaugural U17 competition and, with excellent displays in those games, it was no surprise that both have made the Minor panel.

In the remaining three rounds of the Central League we are at home to Laune Rangers (21st July), away to Na Gaeil (28th July) and at home to Kerins O’Rahillys (25th August)

In the meantime we were due to play Kerins O’Rahillys in the Town League Final on Monday evening (27th June). Check Website for Report, Then on Wednesday, 6th July at 7pm.we begin our Co. Championship campaign with a home game against Kenmare District.

BEST OF LUCK: to Kerry’s three football teams who contest three Provincial Finals in the next few days. Kerry have  42 titles to date and are going for three in a row, while Cork have 29 titles.

Then on next Sunday (3rd July) in Fitzgerald Stadium both our Minors (with Ferdia O’Brien) and Seniors (with Kieran Donaghy) are both going for four in a row titles. Our Minors have 44 titles with Cork on 29. At Senior level Kerry have 77 titles with Tipp on 9 wins, their last in 1935.
