HURLING: Our Hurlers will play Duagh in this season’s  Co. League (Div 3) Final. The game will take place in Connolly Park on a date yet to be confirmed.

Fixtures have also come to hand for the South Kerry District Board competitions. We are due to play games on three consecutive Wednesdays, commencing on 10th August when we face Kenmare in Connolly in the Senior League Final.

The following week (17th Aug) it’s the same venue and opposition for a semi final clash in the SH Championship. The Final of that competition in fixed for the following Wednesday (24th Aug).

Then a fortnight later (7th Sept) we travel to Fossa to play St. Pats (East Kerry) in the JH Championship Final.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: There is just one outstanding game to be played in Division 1 of the Co. League and that’s our round 5 game against Kerins O’Rahillys. The game is fixed for Connolly Park on next Saturday evening (6th Aug) at 7pm.

WELL DONE; to Ferdia O’Brien, Kieran Donaghy and their Kerry colleagues on their wins in their respective All Ireland quarter final games in Croke Park yesterday (31st July). But the story of the day has to go to former Club footballer, Liam Kearns and his Tipperary stars who qualified for their first All Ireland SF semi final in 81 years after a fantastic win over Galway. Incredible stuff, Liam.

Roll on September for a Kerry .v. Tipperary Final.

BEST OF LUCK: to Michael O’Donnell and his Kerry JF colleagues as they take on Mayo in the All Ireland Final on next Saturday (6th Aug). Kerry will be going for two titles in a row (they defeated the same opposition in last year’s encounter by 2-18 to 0-10) and, strange as it may seem, they have never won two-in-row before, since the competition was inaugurated in 1912. Kerry will also be trying to catch up with Cork on the Roll of Honours. The Rebels have 17 titles with Kerry just one behind on 16. Next in line it’s Dublin and London with six each.

The game on Saturday is part of a treble header in Croke Park. It starts at 2pm with the two remaining All Ireland SF quarter finals taking place at 4pm (Mayo .v. Tyrone) and 6pm (Dublin .v. Donegal).

B FOOTBALL: Kerins O’Rahillys 0-10; Austin Stacks 2-22.

There were some beautiful passages of football by both sides in this 4th round of the Town League played at Healy Park, Ballyrickard on last Wednesday evening (27th July). Playing with a near full-strength team and with ten substitutes on the line eager to get a taste of the action, this was keenly contested by our lads. Strand Road stayed with us for the first twenty five minutes, after which we led by 0-8 to 0-6 but three more points for us in the closing minutes of the half left us ahead by five at the break (0-11 to 0-6).

William, Jonathan and Richie introduced three subs at the start of the second half and by the 47th minute all six subs were on the field. At that stage we led by 1-17 to 0-9, our goal coming in the 40th minute from a brilliant run by Dale Counihan, who linked with Jessie O’Sullivan, who found team captain Seamus Bastible and Basty took his goal with aplomb.

Our second goal, which came just on the stroke of full time, was every bit as good, which saw Dale Counihan at the end of another slick move to tap the ball to the net, to cap another brilliant display by Dale (remember his performance just ten days before out in Knocknagoshel).

This evening Dale amassed a whopping  1-10 (1-4 from play). Seamus Bastible was also on fire, scoring 1-4, including one from a 45. In total nine players got on the score sheet, including three of our subs (Louis Ryle, Jessie O’Sullivan and Alan Duggan), as well as centre back, Ciarán O’Connell and mid-fielder, Denis O’Neill. Seán Dukes and Jack O’Shea also contributed to the high score. And all those brilliant scores were made by measured build-ups from our back line whose link play was superb.

Team: Barry Galvin, John Murphy, Barry Walsh, Ronan Shanahan, Andrew Morrissey, Ciarán O’Connell (0-1), Jack Morgan, Denis O’Neill (0-1), Shane Guthrie, Seán Ryan, Seamus Bastible (Capt) (1-4 – one 45), Jack O’Shea (0-1), Dale Counihan (1-10 – 6 frees), Seán Dukes (0-1), Seán Fitzmaurice,

Sub: Louis Ryle (ht) (0-2), Jessie O’Sullivan (ht) (0-1), Martin Moriarty (ht), Alan Duggan (33m) (0-1), Paul Galvin (42m), Cathal O’Reilly (47m).

Our Bs now have a break this coming weekend but they are due to play Ballymac in Connolly Park on next Monday evening (8th Aug) in the final round of the Town League. Throw in 7.30. Check the Club Website in case of any change to this fixture as, with four wins out of four, we have already qualified for the semi final of the competition.
