SENIOR FOOTBALL: Our Seniors had another busy season winning two competitions – the Co. Club Championship, overcoming Dr. Crokes in the Final (10th Sept) with the minimum to spare (2-12 to 1-14) and the Town League Final (20th Aug) defeating John Mitchels.

We were runners up in the Co. League Final with Crokes, on this occasion, reversing that Club Final result. This was the last game of the season (19th Nov), a season that started back on a cold damp night on the Mitchels pitch on 4th March. In total we played 24 competitive games, winning 17, drawing one and losing 6.

Only one player lined out in all 24 games – Shane O’Callaghan. Just behind him, with 23 games, was Pa McCarthy with Fiachna Mangan and David Mannix on 22, followed by Fearghal MacNamara and Conor Jordan on 21 and Jack O’Shea and Wayne Guthrie on 20.

For the second season in a row David Mannix was the chief scorer with 2-94 (100 pts) to his credit. He was only the 2nd player to reach the 100 points mark in the last quarter of a century. Only one other player has surpassed that milestone and that was Darren Aherne in 1994 when he scored 103 points (4-91). Behind David was Shane O’Callaghan (7-38), Darragh O’Brien (4-19) and Fiachna Mangan on 1-22.

Our biggest win of the season was in that Town League Final against John Mitchels when we had 16 points to spare (2-19 to 1-6).

Thanks to all the 39 players who lined out with the Seniors during the season and a special thanks to Stephen Stacks and his brilliant, dedicated and committed team of mentors and backroom staff.

They included John Joe Sugrue, John Walsh, William Kirby, Billy Lee, Pat Flanagan, Tommy Naughton, Micheál Dillon, Ger Mannix, John Tobin, Timmy Sheehan, Paudie McQuinn and Fionán Hallinan. Club Chairman, Liam Lynch and Secretary, Elma Nix do all the unseen work that keeps the show on the road.

One other person who is part and parcel of not alone the SF scene but every other aspect of the Club and that’s Adrienne McLoughlin. Adrienne and her trusty camera can be seen covering not alone games from the youngest age group right up to the Seniors but all other Club-related activity as well. Super work Adrienne.

We now look forward to 2017 (our centenary year) with renewed confidence.

WELL DONE: to Dr. Crokes and Kenmare Shamrocks on winning their respective Munster Club Finals yesterday in Mallow and the best of luck to Glenbeigh-Glencar as they take on Gabriel Rangers (Cork) in the Munster Club JF Final next Sunday (4th Dec). That game will also take place in Mallow with a 3.15pm throw-in.
