CHRISTMAS GREETINGS: to all Club members, supporters, all in the local community and all readers of our Notes both at home and abroad.

CLUB AGM: A reminder that the Club AGM will take place in the Clubrooms, Connolly Park on Sunday, 8th January at 12 noon.

Nominations are invited for all positions on the incoming Executive Committee.

Nominations and Motions for discussion should be returned to Club Secretary, Elma Nix, 37 Highfield Grove, Tralee or email Secretary.ausinstacks.kerry@gaa.ie to be received on or before 5 p.m. on Thursday week, 29th December.

U21 FOOTBALL: Our U21s had just one game to play this season after they received a walk-over in round 1 of the Co. Championship. Crokes were our opponents in the quarter final which we lost by just two points (1-13 to 2-8). Of the 18 who lined out in that game 16 will be eligible again for the U21s next season.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Our Minors had a reasonably good season.  Of the four competitions in which they took part (Co. Championship, Co. League, Town League and Central League) they reached the finals of three, winning the Central League with their last game of the season (played in Caherslee on 11th Nov) against Kerins O’Rahillys (2-9 to 1-6); going down to Dr. Crokes by just two points (2-18 to 2-16) in a Co. League Final that went to extra time) and losing to Kerins O’Rahillys in the Town League Final (0-15 to 0-8).

Of the 15 games played, in a season that started on 31st January, we won 10 and lost 5. Thirty three players in total lined out during the season with Ciarán O’Reilly and David Fitzmaurice being the only two players to line out in all 15 games, followed closely by team captain, Brandon Patterson on 14 games.

Top scorer was Ferdia O’Brien on 8-52 with Cian Liston (5-14) and Fergal Ryan (3-20) sharing 2nd spot with 29 pts each. Donagh McKivergan was in 4th position with 1-23 to his credit.

And Ferdia, of course, was also part of the Kerry MF team that won a 3rd in a row All Ireland Minor title in September. Ferdia became the 22nd Rock player to win an All Ireland medal (bringing the medals total in the Club to 27) since that very first win away back in 1931.

So well done to the whole squad as well as team mentors Wayne Quillinan, John O’Sullivan, Jonathan Conway, Kieran O’Callaghan and Eoin Colgan

WELL DONE: Everyone in the Club will be familiar with our own Timmy Sheehan performing on Radio Kerry down the years. His weekly slot (normally on Sundays just after 5pm) covering the sporting topics of the week is not to be missed.

As well as that Timmy regularly reports on games, in particular GAA and Basketball, as well as acting as an Analyst, especially on Hurling.

But last Sunday was a special day for Timmy when he did his first ever live commentary, covering the Mid Kerry SF Final between Beaufort (winners) and Milltown/Castlemaine.

And a splendid job he did too, a perfect voice for a commentator and ,of course, a splendid knowledge of the game. Let’s hope we will hear more of Timmy in this capacity in the future.

BEST WISHES: to Patrick O’Sullivan who completed his 5 year tenure as Chairman of the Kerry Co. Board last week.

Not alone has Patrick been a fantastic Chairman but his contribution to Kerry GAA goes back almost 20 years when he was appointed Development Officer in 1998 and was the conduit through which many grants came through to many Clubs throughout the county down the years.

So well done Patrick from all in the Rock and the best of luck in the future. And congratulations and best wishes also the new Cathaoirleach, Tim Murphy from Brosna.

BINGO: There will be no Bingo on this coming Saturday (Christmas Eve) or on the following Saturday (New Years Eve). The Bingo is due to resume again on Saturday, 7th January.

CLUBHOUSE: As always the Clubhouse is available for all types of Parties. For Bookings, phone Maurice McNamara at 086 3747 642.

The only night, during the Christmas period, when there will not be Cards will be on next Monday (St. Stephen’s Day).

LOTTO: Last week’s (12th Dec) Jackpot, worth €5,000, was not won. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 18, 32. The €20 winners were: Mike Tangney, c/o Club Rockies; Sheila Duggan, c/o Denis O’Connor; and Richard Healy, Margaret Lacey, and Ann & Sonny Healy, all c/o Richard Healy.
