Austin StacksSENIOR FOOTBALL: It’s now less than six weeks to go to our All Ireland Club Championship semi final clash against the Derry and Ulster Champions, Slaughtneil. As we write there is still no definite confirmation as to the exact date, time and venue but this is likely to be announced within the next few days.

CORRECTION: In our review of SF in last week’s Notes we incorrectly stated that Kerry have 38 Senior titles. That, of course, some read 37. A little wishful thinking on our part, hoping of course that it will be 38 come 5pm on Sunday, 20th September next and that a certain Star will be lifting the Sam Maguire on the Hogan Stand.

BON VOYAGE: After spending just one season with the Club, during which he excelled especially with the B team, we are all sorry to be losing the services of Cavan native, Darren Tiernan who leaves this week to take up employment in foreign climes.

Darren lined out in 16 of the 18 competitive games played by the B team in 2014, ending up chief scorer by a country mile with at least 10-29 to his credit (stats not available for two games). He also made 4 appearances with the Senior team during the season and in his last game ended up doing what only three other players have done in the past quarter of a century, that is scoring a hat trick of goals in that Town Championship semi final against Ballymac a few weeks ago (7thDec 2014).

We all wish you every success in your new venture Darren and hope maybe that circumstances might prevail in the future where you might find it possible to return to Tralee again and rejoin the Club.

SCÓR SINSIR: Scór Officer, Brian Caball informs us that Senior Scór will commence shortly and anyone interested in taking part in Set Dancing, Figure Dancing and in Music will be most welcome to participate.

ANNIVERSARY: We remember at this time two people who gave so much to the Club and the County during their lifetime and who passed away over the Christmas period twenty five years ago. Tadhg Crowley died two days before Christmas 1989 and just a fortnight later Dan Ryan passed away on the 7th January 1990. Tadhg played football with the Club during the forties and was Club Treasurer for eight seasons from 1979 to 1986 incl. He was Secretary of the Kerry Co. Board from 1955 to 1970 and Treasurer of the Munster Council from 1968 to 1989.

Dan won 2 All Ireland Football medals with Kerry and won an astonishing 11 Co. Championship medals (7 football and 4 Hurling) first with a Tralee team (3 in 1925 and 1926) and eight with the Rock from 1928 to 1936. After his playing career he turned to refereeing in both codes, including the 1949 All Ireland SF Final. At Club level he served as Chairman for more years that anyone in the Club – 13 in total, starting in 1938 and doing his last stint during the 1961 season. He also represented the Club on the Tralee Town Board and the Co. Board for many years.
