PEIL FAOI 6: We completed our 2018 season with this rip-roaring round of games under the stewardship of mentors with very high credentials, including Wayne Quillinan, Keith McKensie, Mike McCannon and William Kirby.

Players on view were Daniel Fitzmaurice, Harry Healy, Ruadh Horan, Jawaher Mohammed, Ruane Lawlor, Oran Maguire, Coby McMahon, Conor McCannon, Gerry McDonald, Finn McKensie, Ciarán Murphy, Seán O’Grady, Ben O’Leary, Mattise Power, Tadhg Slattery and Jake O’Driscoll.

After three rounds of fantastically exciting games laced with terrific enthusiasm, the teams could not be seperated and, so, the Jimmy Barry Cup was presented to the three most impressive players throughout the season….Harry Healy, Jamie Quillinan and Gerry McDonald.

Well done, lads. Agus sin deireadh le cúrsaí peile lasmuigh don séasúr seo. We look forward to seeing these brilliant boys in action indoors at a later stage!

PEIL FAOI 8: The U8 football season finished on Sunday (21st) with the playing of two great finals for the ‘Bracker’ ‘Regan and Kevin Barry Cups at Connolly Park.

Following the pre-match parade and the playing of our National Anthem, the teams took to a wet and slippery pitch. Fortunately for the players and the large attendance, the rain stopped before the throw-in.

(a) In the Bracker O’Regan Cup Final we saw Team B, captained by Tom Dawson, playing Team C, under the leadership of Luke Kavanagh. The first half was closely contested and Team B reached the break leading by 0-2. Team B pulled further ahead in the second half and they ran out deserved winners on a final score of 4-8 to 1-6.

Tom Dawson played a captain’s role throughout and took some lovely scores from mid-field. Diarmuid Hennessy and Oran O’Regan were very effective in defence and set up several attacks with their clearances. Jayden Griffin drove the team forward in the second half and was ably supported by his brother, Callum.

Up front, Oisín Horan was always a threat with his work-rate and intelligent play and he popped over some great points with his left foot.

For Team C, Luke Kavanagh gave a magnificent display from start to finish. Rocco McMahon and Conal Moore fought hard for every ball in the backs and Billy Kirby won a lot of possession around the middle. In the forwards, Harry Maguire and Séamus Keenan were very bright and busy.

Foireann B: Tom Dawson (capt), Oisín Horan, Jayden Griffin, Diarmuid Hennessy, Oran O’Regan, Callum Griffin. Foireann C: Luke Kavanagh (capt), Séamus Keenan, Billy Kirby, Harry Maguire, Rocco McMahon, Conal Moore. (b) In the Kevin Barry Cup Final, Team D was victorious v Team A. The game was keenly contested with both sides evenly matched. Team D’s Ryan O’Flaherty took hold of the game from midfield and set up numerous scores for his forward line of Liam Swords and Dara Moriarty.

However, all good teams have very solid defences and the D boys, with Conor Murphy, Alex O’Flaherty and John Riordan to the fore, laid the foundations for this victory. David Ahern did his very best to keep his team in the game and they had some opportunities for scores but, unfortunately, they didn’t convert them.

Nevertheless, their forward line of Michael Carmody, Elliot Calleja and Shane Carey got some great scores and on another day they would have been victorious. The back line of Gearóid Corcoran and Shay Horan were excellent and after the restart they drove on their team, ably assisted by David Ahern at midfield.

It was an excellent game though played in poor conditions but the players must be complimented for their high skill levels and never-give-up Rock attitude. Foireann D: Ryan O’Flaherty (capt), Dara Moriarty, Conor Murphy, Alex O’Flaherty, John Riordan, Liam Swords. Foireann A: David Ahern (capt), Elliot Calleja, Shane Carey, Michael Carmody, Gearóid Corcoran, Shay Horan.
