FAOI 7 – BLITZ: Our boys had great fun at the Under 7 football blitz on Monday last. The final blitz will take place on Monday next, July 15th (St Swithin’s Day). Expect text, boys.

PEIL FAOI 10: NB…We will have no….no…no U10 football on SUNDAY next because on SATURDAY next our U10 boys will make the big trip to Tochar in Cork for the the St Finbarr Club Annual Football Blitz. Guímid gach ádh ar ár mbuachaillí.
CAMPA PEILE ‘CÚL’: A wonderfully enthusiastic group of boys and girls enjoyed the Kellogg’s Cúl Football Camp i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile an tseachtain seo caite. ‘Well done’ to players, coaches and organisers who worked so hard to ensure it’s success. Among the coaches were Emer McCarthy, Pádraig Ó Grífín, Jackie Horgan, Conor Hurley, Cathal O’Donoghue, Kieran O’Donoghue, Alan McElligott.
CAID FAOI 12: This week saw our mórlaochra and our gaiscígh chróga chalma back to training on Tuesday and on Thursday as we begin preparations for a very busy and hectic period from August on. (i) Following on from hugely successful County Leagues, the Central League will begin in early August – we’ll field two equal teams in this competition. (ii) Some of our boys will also be involved in the Lee Strand U13 Tournament on the 7/8th September and will be training with that panel in advance. (iii) On the following Sunday (Sept 15th) we’ll travel to Templeogue/Synge St Club for their excellent U12 tournament and, to complete a month of hectic action, (iv) we’ll travel to Oranmore (Contae na Gaillimhe) for their football blitz on the following Saturday (21st September). If our U12 warriors had passports to be stamped every time they travelled over the county borders they’d have needed replacements many months ago!! Thanks to all our dedicated mentors, supportive parents and enthusiastic players for being part of such a great and well-travelled group. PEIL FAOI 14: (i) Our lads faced St. Pats on Monday last in the Central League Division 4 in Blennerville. (ii) AN FHÉILE: We headed for Féile ‘19 in Connacht full of hope and excitement and looking forward to a feast of football.
(a) On Friday evening we had two games…..v Salthill/Cnoc na Cathrach and Naas. Tosach maith, leath na hoibre! In the first game, our boys gave the Galway lads no time to settle. Colm Browne netted within five minutes….surely the goal of the tournament….and, before the half had ended, Liam Moroney, Paddy Lane, Damien Hogan and Aaron Nolan (2) had hit the net five more times. Our backs, led by the fantastic Seán Moynihan, Luke Casey and Daniel Kirby, cleared the ball time and again.
Michael Tansley made two great reflex saves just before half time to prevent a comeback. Salthill battled to the end but another Hogie ‘special’, followed by fine points from deadly accurate Noah Townsend and from Togor Silong, gave the locals no way back. Steven Conway replaced Mike Tansley in goals and was equally successful.
The tough-tackling Jamie Horgan won every ball that came his way and distributed expertly. Jack Slattery worked tirelessly on the wing, cutting out many attacks and Jack Murphy was back to his brilliant best after a lengthy injury.
Jamie O’Shea covered every inch of grass and contributed a stylishly taken goal with his left. Scór:- AdeS: 8-8; Salthill/Cnoc na Cathrach: 1-5. A great start to the weekend! (b) The game v Naas proved to be a ‘game of two halves’. Naas goaled early on but our hard-running half-forwards hit fifth gear and that ensured a seven point lead by half-time. Paddy Lane and Noah Townsend played out of their skins and Jamie O’Shea was unstoppable.
Mark Lynch added another fine point with the right foot to put some ‘distance’ between ourselves and the Naas boys. Luke Fitzgerald seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, making runs and tackles and breaking their lines with great power and pace; he’s under age again next year!
After Hogie scored a goal Naas upped the pace but only one point was scored in the whole second period and that from a Naas free kick. Both defences dug in. Togor twice dived full stretch to prevent Naas scores.
Both Seán Heaslip and Daniel Kirby also made great blocks. Pádraig O’Halloran used his blistering pace and great determination to break Naas hearts time after time. Thomas Dereke was unlucky not to have scored at least two goals against a stubborn Kildare defence. Scór:- AdeS: 1-8; Naas: 1-2.
After some sea water recovery at Bóthar na Trá (Salthill) our boys journeyed to their host families in Moycullen for a good night’s sleep. (c) Saturday morning dawned in Maigh Cuilinn, bhí an ghrian ag scoilteadh na gcloch and the locals were out in force to cheer on their Green’n’White team.
We started at a blistering pace and, after twelve minutes, we led….4-2 to 0-2. Liam Moroney scored two lovely points, Thomas Dereke got two goals and both Togor Silong and Jamie O’Shea found the net.
Adam O’Carroll was playing outstandingly. Then we went to sleep and within three minutes the Tribesmen had equalised. Scór ag leath-am: 4-2 a piece. Our lads were rocked and, before we knew it, Moycullen had added another 3-0. Our boys fought back with Marc Carmody leading the way. Noah lifted the siege with 0-3 and Colm Browne, Paddy Lane and Jack Murphy started to run at their defence.
We beseiged their goal area! Togor pointed from distance and Damien hit the net but we ran out of time and suffered our first defeat of the year. Scór: AdeS: 5-7; Maigh Cuilinn: 7-4. (d) No time for post-mortems….ach ar an mbus go dtí Tuam for a Cup quarter final match v Westport.
There we gave our best performance of the weekend despite losing Aaron Nolan to a calf strain. Westport had a giant of a lad at midfield and he could catch a ball like our own ‘Star’. He was their ‘go to’ player. Our Colm Browne succeeded in breaking a lot of ball away from him and if he did manage to make a catch Colm stayed close to him; he got away from Colm the odd time but he then had to meet Jack Murphy!
The Westport lads were under severe pressure as Hogie with 0-2 (one a free) and hard-working Noah with 0-1 put us 0-3 up. In our half of the pitch the two Seáns (Moynihan and Heaslip) and Luke Casey were ag glanadh suas gach rud.
Scór leath-ama: 0-3 to 0-1. Noah found the net early in the second half but Westport got 1-1. The Rock boys focused and Jamie O’Shea scored from the penalty spot after Thomas Dereke was pulled down. Our heart rates had hardly gone back to a safe beat when Liam Moroney palmed to the net and put us into the semi-final v South London.
Scór:- AdeS: 3-3; Westport: 1-2. We had our recovery session cois farraige i bhFurbo, in aice le Bearna, before heading to Moycullen for a BBQ and presentations in their clubhouse. Both Richie Conway and Chairperson Mairéad Fernane spoke eloquently on our behalf and we presented a Kieran Donaghy signed framed jersey to the host club.
(e) Go Cnoc Mhuire linn an lá ar na mhárach (Dé Domhnaigh). It was cold and wet at the Connacht Centre of Excellence, near Knock, where the semi-finals and finals of the thirteen divisions were held. 39 games?? And who met us on our arrival?
We would like to thank Kieran Donaghy for meeting us on our arrival and for taking time out from his busy schedule to pass on some words of wisdom to our group of talented young boys. South London proved to be tough opponents; they were well coached and they were very skilful. We struggled with their physical presence all over the pitch; they were set up like a Northern team and, so, our running game wasn’t as fluid as theretofore.
By halftime we had failed to score and South London managed 0-1. Whomever managed to find the net first would win and, ochón agus mo bhrón, it was the Londoners who goaled! We laid siege to their goal but just couldn’t find a way though. To get so close was heart breaking! Comhghairdeachas le peileadóirí Londain Theas! Scór:- AdeS: 0-2; Londain Theas: 1-2. (f)
Focal scoir: The weekend, from ducking each other in Galway Bay and licking 99s on the bus to the heartbreak in Mayo, will live in the memories of these boys for years to come.

Morgan O’Connell for the First Aid kit; Francie Breen for the PA; Andrew Morrissey, MC for the quiz; all the supporters who travelled to Galway and Mayo, especially Mairéad Fernane, Tim McMahon and Colm Mangan; Wayne Quillinan for the peptalk before we left; Kieran Donaghy and Seán Quilter for their support in Mayo – it meant a lot to the players; all seven coaches involved with this team – William Kirby (who drove from Galway to South Kerry and back on the day of the semi-final, Richie Conway, Eamon Heaslip, Wayne Guthrie, Dale Counihan, Ronan Kavanagh and Dave Scanlon; Moycullen GAA club; Tim McMahon and Ciara Nix for the Twitter and Facebook updates; all the parents who had to buy into the Féile experience for the team to do so well; the 24 players who so proudly wore the Black’n’Amber and who gave of their almighty best in Connacht. Oh, we were close, so very very close!

CIARRAÍ FAOI 16: Our U16 Kerry representatives had three good victories last weekend. They defeated Cork, Limerick and Waterford. Fair-play dhaoibh, a leaideanna!
