PEIL FAOI 12: (i) Our globetrotters were back on the road last Saturday morning for their final trip ‘out foreign’….this year to participate in the inaugural Oranmore-Maree U12 Tournament.
Despite missing many of our A team regulars, we were still able to field teams in both the Cup and Shield competitions and we were pitted against very capable opposition from the host club, Westport and Lissycasey from Clare.
Our Cup side played out a keenly-contested encounter, in the first group game, with the Mayo champions and despite a fully committed and typically skilful Rockie display, we fell short by 4 points.
The (bad) luck of the draw meant that we had to line-out straight away against the home team and a final scoreline of 3-5 to 0-6 in favour of Oranmore didn’t reflect a tight match in which possession was evenly split throughout and in which we had the misfortune to miss several goal chances.
Spirits remained high in the camp, however, and after sampling some of the excellent refreshments provided by our gracious Galway hosts, the Rockies returned to action for our final group game against table-toppers (and ultimate Cup winners) Lissycasey.
The 25 minutes of Black’n’Amber brilliance that followed will live long in the memory of the travelling support as our heroes put in one of their best displays of the season in defeating the gallant Clare representatives by 4-6 to 1-0.
That performance certainly shortened the journey home! Our Shield team competed fantastically well against older and physically stronger opposition and grew into the competition after a tough opener against Westport.
Fielding nine U10 players (including 9 year old Danny Lane!), our Shield warriors gave all present a great taster of what to expect from Austin Stack Club underage football in the coming years. Tá todhchaí gheal ar an Charraig!
A huge thanks to Galway great, Seán Óg de Paor, and his Oranmore-Maree club for hosting an excellently-organised tournament and providing great facilities, very good officiating and a refreshment spread that earned rave reviews from the Connolly Park connoissuers! (ii) U12 training will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

PEIL FAOI 16: The U16 Town League began last Sunday ar an gCillín with an away fixture v Na Gaeil. It took us until half time to shake off the cobwebs, not having played a competitive game in over four weeks.
We went indoors at half time on level terms…somehow! Seven points a piece! Although mistakes were plentiful and handling errors were to the fore, we did show san dara leath some glimpses of the play of which we are capable and, as that dara leath reached midpoint, we began to stretch our legs….and our lead.
The final score was in our favour and we came away with the two points on a scoreline of 4-14 to 0-11. Well done, lads! We witnessed some encouraging performances today from Enda Cahill, Evan Foley, Joey Nagle….and Kevin Barry with two very important goal line clearances. Tús maith, leath na hoibre!
Training: Wednesday evening at 6pm (sharp). We’ll play at home i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile v Ballymac next Sunday (29ú)….throw-in at 11am. Beimid ag tnúth le sárchluiche. Our 3rd game will be on the 6th October when we’ll travel to Ard Fhearta. The final has been fixed for the 13th and will be played between the top two teams. Games can be 13 or 15 aside, depending on team numbers.
Only teams that have played all their games will be eligible to play in the final. Extra time, más gá, will be played in play-offs and in the final. Fógra: The coiste of Bordcheantar Thrá Lí has decided to introduce a ‘zero tolerance’ policy in regard to the use of foul and abusive language towards match officials.
It is intended that all GAA players, mentors and supporters will show proper respect at all times and such good behaviour will undoubtedly encourage young adults to take up the important job of refereeing.
The golden rule for all over-excited players or patrons is ‘is binn béal ina thost’. Reports of abusive or foul language will be dealt with by the CCCC. This policy has the full backing of the board, including all club delegates, and its enforcement will eliminate the need for ear plugs at games!
CLUB TALENT: How’s our club talent? Could we provide people for such items as table quiz, bailéadghrúpa, grúpa ceoil, set, figure dance, solo singing, recitation/scéal or even a 5-minute sketch? Why not?
Youngsters or their parents, if interested and able, should contact the club. The Rock Club would only be delighted to have representatives in the Under 17 Scór na nÓg ‘outings’. See Kerry GAA website for full details on rules, srl.
The district finals of Scór na nÓg (faoi 17 ar 1-1-2020) must be completed by December 1st…..sin dhá mhí ghlan…two months to prepare! The Scór na nÓg finals will take place on Saturday December 14th at a venue to be confirmed. Beidh an quiz ag 12.00 agus beidh na comórtaisí go léir eile ag 1.30pm.
Tá dúshláin romhainn uile!! The Annual General Meeting of Scór Chiarraí will take place on Tuesday October 1st at 7.30pm in the Ionad Barr Feabhais (Centre of Excellence), Currans.
