PEIL FAOI 13: (i)(a) U13 Football P1 County League  Division 10: An Fhoireann Ómrach/Team Amber: 2-2; Na Gaeil B: 2-6. Team Amber came out on just the wrong side of another nail-biting thriller in a blustery Connolly Park on Sunday evening last (10th).

The result was finally settled by a Na Gaeil goal with the last kick of the game! With the wind at their backs, our lads had firm control of the early exciting exchanges. They played delightful football….great skill, clever passing, well-timed running-off-the-ball, good defending in all quarters!

First-half goals by Luke O’Connor and Jayden O’Dowd gave the boys a well-deserved six point half-time lead…2-1 to 0-1. Then, facing a second-half ‘Roaring 40s’ type gale, The Rock defence had to put up an heroic rearguard-action defence to frustrate the incessant Na Gaeil attacks.

The defended staunchly and successfully kept the opposition forwards at bay until the very last kick of the game! The Rock mentors were extremely proud of a fine U13 performance  at the end of which a mere kick of the pigskin separated the teams!

Kyle Yoxall, who very effectively and professionally organised his defence, was both goalkeeper and goal-poacher for the evening; he was a commanding figure who gave great leadership throughout the hour. The evening marked competitive County League debuts in the Black’n’Amber for Albi Gaxha, Karol Kowalczyk, Ryan McCord, Ediart Topali, Mateusz Mikolajczuk and Mohammad Zakrit….history in the making!

Welcome to you, boys…welcome on board Team Amber! Man-of-the-Match was rock-solid centre back David Ahern who, from the first hop of the ball, took the game to Na Gaeil. Thanks to Na Gaeil for a great battle that was played in the right spirit…..more of the same to come!

Thanks to the referee, fear na feadóige, for his handling of the game. Team Amber: Kyle Yoxhall, Diarmuid Hennessy, Oisín Cotter, Joe O’Halloran, Conor Murphy, David Ahern, Matthew Guerin, Oran O’Donoghue, Liam Swords, Killian Coffey, Nathan Hurley, Tadhg Somers, Jayden O’Dowd, Luke O’Connor, Ewan Canty, Jack Walsh, Gearóid Corcoran, Conor Hanafin, Albi Gaxha, Mohammad Zakrit, Ediart Topali, Karol Kowalczyk, Ryan McCord, Mateusz Mikolajczuk. (i)(b) U13 Football P1 County League  Division 10: Team Amber: 5-7; An Gaeltacht B: 1-2.

Team Amber’s home debut of 2022 on Thursday evening last (7th April) in Connolly Park resulted in a great first win in the County League. Na Stacaigh asserted control early on butsome wayward shooting, however, meant that the first half was a tight affair with An Ghaeltacht looking dangerous on occasions in attack but resolute defence kept the Black’n’Amber goal intact.

A Kyle Yoxall goal just before half time gave our boys a well-deserved lead of 4 points…1-2 to 0-1…at the break. Some fresh legs and a powerful 3rd quarter display secured the victory and that included further goals from Oran O’Donoghue and Luke O’Connor and a brace from Noah Reidy.

There were great displays in all lines of the field but the Man-of-the-Match title went to Diarmuid Hennessy for a performance that exhibited all the arts of fine corner-back play. Ardfhear, a Dhiarmuid! Mórbhuíochas leis an nGaeltacht for travelling and playing the game despite missing a few players.

An Fhoireann Ómrach/Team Amber: Seán McCannon, Diarmuid Hennessy, Oisín Cotter, Conor Murphy, Séamus Keenan, Oran O’Donoghue, Tadhg Somers, Noah Reidy, Jayden O’Dowd, Kyle Yoxall, Eliot Calleja, Luke O’Connor, Joe O’Halloran, Gearóid Corcoran, Conor Hanafin, Albi Gaxha, Muhammad Zakrit, Nathan Hurley, Ewan Canty, Jack Walsh, Matthew Guerin, Nathan O’Connor. (ii)(a) Thursday 7th saw our Team Black U13 boys playing their rescheduled Round 2 of the County League Division 2 game at home against An Ghaeltacht.

A positive early start had The Rock, ably led by team captain Denis Brassil, in the lead at half-time….An Fhoireann Dhubh: 5-4; Gaeltacht: 2-3. Another strong half by our boys, scoring 11 points, resulted in our first win of the season. Mo cheol sibbh, a leaideanna!

This was a great overall team performance by all the lads who played and signs were seen that all the hard diligent training is starting to pay off. Full-time score…AdeS: 5-15; Gaeltacht: 5-6. (ii)(b) Our U13 Team Black faced town rivals, Foireann Bhán na nGael on Sunday evening in Connolly Park in Round 3 of the County League.

A great atmosphere had been building up for this one as most of the boys from both teams know each other from school and would be teammates in other sports. Spurred on by a pre-match photo opportunity with the National League Cup, the Bishop Moyniham Cup and the Club Championship Cup, our young charges made a great start. Facing a very strong breeze, they worked the ball well into the forwards who took some lovely scores. Half-time score…AdeS: 2-4; Na Gaeil: 0-2.

Another bright start to the half saw another goal and two points being scored early on. Great credit to the Na Gaeil boys who played a great last quarter and came well back into the game.

Thankfully our goalkeeper, Conor O’Regan, was on fire and made some great saves to see us maintain the lead at the final whistle. This was a great overall team performance from number 1 to number 19.

Thanks to Na Gaeil for two sporting games. Full-time score: AdeS: 3-7; Na Gaeil: 2-6. (iii) Traenáil/cluichí: Training will be held in Connolly Park on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 6.30pm and on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.45pm; our home games will (generally) be played on Sundays (see dates/times below). PEIL FAOI 15: (i)(a) Our U15s continued their County League Division 1 League campaign with a convincing away victory over An Ghaeltacht i nGallaras on Wednesday evening last. Squad as follows: Seán Clifford, Liam O’Connell, Fionán Ryan, Alex Tuohy, Naode Derege, Oliver Lata, Ben Murphy, Gavin Casey, Jack Shanahan, Max Grzybowski, Leon O’Connor, Tomás O’Connell, Rory Lynch, Ronan Carroll, Ryan O’Driscoll, Cormac Bastible, Jake Carmody, Rian Walsh, Brian Kavanagh, Tadhg Falvey, Aodhán  Horgan. (i)(b) On Thursday evening our Division 9B side started their campaign with a closely fought nail-biting one point win over Listowel Emmets in Listowel. We began strongly in the first half and, with wind advantage led by 0-6…1-8 to 1-2…at half-time. Listowel made a comeback in the second half and our stalwart defence, repelling many dangerous attacks, kept us in the game. Two goals from our opponents left us trailing by a point late on in the match but we rallied to score two late points and take the lead. Listowel attacked repeatedly but could not get past our stonewall defence. At the end of the hour we were the victorious team by the minimum margin. Final Score….AdeS: 1-14; Listowel: 3-7. The squad is as follows: Seán Clifford, Eoghan Murphy, Rian Walsh, Jay Sweeney, Jayden Moriarty, Max Grzybowski, Brian Kavanagh, Paddy Lucid, Aodhán Horgan, Tadhg Falvey, Jack Shanahan, Jack Diggins, Rory Kavanagh, Jake Carmody, Rory Lynch, Vinny Moriarty, Denis Griffin. U16 ROCK BOYS CONTINUE TO SHINE: …And the stellar showings just keep on coming for Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí! Táimid dár mbuanú fhéin agus ag dul ó neart go neart le gach deis a fhaighimid! Our tirelessly talented U15s neared peak form, taking on worthy challengers  Castleisland. The buachaillí steeled themselves for battle on the lengthy bus ride to the well-tended venue where they quickly donned the striking black, white and red for an even more striking first half battle. The Castleisland attack was sublime, which was of no surprise to Gavin Ó Cathasaigh’s crew. The odd cliseadh, stumble or slip-up led to a slightly uncomfortable 2 point deficit at half-time. The buachaillí, caite amach, listened intently to the passionate half-time óráid of an Máistir Mac Muiris which had the effect of jolting them into life for a spectacular comeback. Ruairí Ó Loinsigh and his teammates called on all their reserves of energy to turn this endlessly entertaining tug-of-war around. Gavin Ó Cathasaigh seized the ball with the time ticking down and lofted a pitch-perfect pass into the square and it was seized upon by Liam Cuipéir who delivered the spectacular winning point. The squad whooped with joy as the sharp pips of the final whistle echoed across the field…….a classy victory by the narrowest of margins had been secured! This, of any other tie, had been a welcome test for ár ngaiscígh and they now unwind over laethanta saoire na Cásca knowing that they will soon take to the pitch again with surer footing and a renewed sense of confidence. Cáisc shona dár Rockies dílse uilig. (Ár gcomhfhreagraí i nGCC, Dáithí Ó Loinsigh).
