AUSTIN STACK CLUB ALL-STARS: On Sunday last, our Austin Stack Club All-Stars togged out for the fifth week. We are gradually finding our feet and the children are getting into the routine and having lots of fun! Already the initiative is proving to be a huge success and it feels like a real community effort with clubmembers and parents digging in to give a hand.

Already, we’re seeing wonderful progress; the kids are really getting stuck in! Great goal scoring ability was shown by Gearóid O’Shea and Fémhe O’Sullivan this week and Lily Deegan showed great ball throwing skills.

The parachute is proving a huge hit with all the children.Caoimhe Naughton was a star at ‘What time is it Mr. Wolf?’ and Michael Kennedy showed super skill on the obstacle course. A week on week improvement in skills by all the children is apparent already but, more importantly, we are hearing plenty of laughter on the pitch.

‘A joyful heart is good medicine, but a brokenspirit dries up the bones,’ a deir Leabhar na Seanfhocal. Our chill-out zone is proving very useful and is a great facility to have to allow the children some time out if needed.

Special belated Happy Birthday wishes to our brilliant All-Star, Fémhe O’Sullivan, and congratulations to Fionn Yeates on making his First Holy Communion on Saturday last. Massive thanks to the club members and parents who lend a hand.

‘Looking forward to seeing everyone again on Sunday next at 10am at the Austin Stack Club pitch in Connolly Park. New members always welcome! Contact Sarah (087-281 0239) or Sandra (087-294 6658) for information/eolas.

PEIL FAOI 9 (born 2013/14): The much-looked-forward-to U9 trip to Dublin took place on Sunday last (22nd) when our young stars travelled to the Kilmacud Crokes Football Tournament at UCD. What a great outing for our U9 players! Our boys gave a good account of themselves and did us proud. ‘Well done’ to all involved….players and mentors. And to prove that our lads weren’t suffering from ‘jet lag,’ they took on Cill Chuimín on Tuesday last (24th) and played really well. PEIL FAOI 13: (i) The LEE STRAND County League – Division 1A – PHASE 2 – has commenced.
Round 1: Sunday 22nd May at 6pm – Legion v AdeS (away) i gCill Airne. Following a decent Phase 1 (Division 2) of the County League (finishing 3rd), we found ourselves regraded up to Division 1A for Phase 2. Our first outing on Sunday last was away to Phase 1 Division 1 winners (and undefeated) Killarney Legion. In the dressing room, before throw-in, we spoke to the boys about all the hard work they had put in since January….working hard, building up their fitness and mobility and general all-round play. We asked them to give it everything they had and to put in a good performance at this higher standard and that’s exactly what they did. With the advantage of a strong breeze, our midfield pairing of Ben Litchfield (0-1) and Denis Brassil were able to supply good ball into our forwards and we opened the scoring early with a well-taken point from distance by David Hobbert (0-2). Further scores in the half came from the boots of Danny Lane (1-1) and Haulie Cotter (0-2). The Legion lads were getting on the scoreboard also in what was a tight first half. But it was the work rate and commitment of Eoin Mangan, Ryan O’Flathery, Ben Litchfield, Denis Brassil and David Hobbert in the middle of the field, as they put great pressure on Legion’s key players, that was vital to keeping us well in the game. Half-time score….Killarney Legion: 1-5; AdeS (Team Black): 1-5. The team talk at half-time emphasised the importance of keeping the work rate up and working the ball up the field while playing against the strong breeze. A positive restart saw our boys keeping the scoreboard ticking over. But Legion kept coming back at us and they even pushed ahead. Our back rows of Ryan O Carroll, Fionn Cotter, Jamie Casey and Darragh Lyons played mighty stuff, kept the Legion boys at bay and kept Legion scoring chances to a minimum. Midway through the 2nd half, our captain for the night, Harry Murphy (1-2) scored a vital goal to see the tie all square. Joe Barry (0-1) and Dean Courtney (0-1) added points to keep the scoreboard ticking. Substitutions, Rian McEvoy and Barry Laide, when brought on, added to this great team performance and we saw some great defensive play by Rian and great attacking play by Barry. The game remained tight right up until the end. Our outstanding goalkeeper, Conor O’Regan, pulled off great saves and delivered some powerful kick-outs….two other key ingredients in this most successful outing. Unused substitutions, David Ahern and Alex Dafoor, were also a credit to the team with their positive attitude throughout and at the end of the game….true sportsmen, indeed! Well done, boys! Congrats, one and all! It’s great to see that all the effort and commitment put in all year (and down the years) paid off with such a wonderful performance as this one. Sárthaispeántas ó ardfhoireann! Thanks to the parents and friends who travelled to support the team. The final score….Killarney Legion: 2-8; AdeS (an Fhoireann Dhubh): 2-10. Good luck on Sunday next, lads!

PEIL FAOI 15: (i) On Monday evening last our Division 9 side played their County League Final against Laune Rangers in Listry. Our Killorglin opponents began strongly and, playing with the aid of a strong breeze, led by ten points at half-time….3-4 to 0-3. Our brave Rockies made a huge comeback bid in the second half and our stalwart defence, repelling many dangerous attacks, kept us in the game. Our forwards managed vital scores, including 4 great goals from Liam O’Connell (2-0), Paddy Lucid and Jake Carmody, to set up a grandstand finish. Despite our best efforts, we ran out of time and were pipped by a mere goal. An heroic effort! So unlucky! Final score…Laune Rangers: 5-7; AdeS: 4-7. Beidh lá eile ag an bhfoireann chróga mhisniúil seo! Congratulations to Laune Rangers and thanks to the Listry club for hosting the final. Our spirited squad: Seán Clifford, Eoghan Murphy, Rian Walsh, Jay Sweeney, Jayden Moriarty, Max Grzybowski, Brian Kavanagh, Tadhg Falvey, Jack Shanahan, Jack Diggin, Rory Kavanagh, Jake Carmody, Vinny Moriarty, Brendan Maunsell, Denis Griffin, Liam O’Connell, Adam Johnston, Gabriel Nosidlak, Bao Foley, Aodhán Horgan, Rory Lynch, Paddy Lucid.

GAELCHOLÁISTE: Tá deireadh na scoilbhliana buailte linn….beagnach! Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí is gearing up for its annual Ócáid Bhronnta Gradam extravaganza at the end of the week. Some former Rock réaltaí have been nominated for the academic awards (we congratulate them accordingly) and most Black’n‘Amber eyes will be fixed on Gradam Spóirt na Scoile. Bronntar Gradam Spóirt na Scoile on those who generated spectacular sporting achievements throughout the jam-packed school calendar year. We anticipate that some of our U15 stars (ag breathnú ar Gavin Ó Cathasaigh agus Rory Ó Loinsigh), our senior panel (an t-uasal Cian Ó Duilleáin nó an t-uasal Lúcás Ó Cathasaigh!) and others will be on the edge of their seats as the nominations ring out over the intercom during the virtual ceremony. This year, our Rockie warriors have made genuine strides to put themselves out there…..on the pitch, on the track or court or in the pool; and we hope that acknowledgment of their efforts is not too far away. Go n-éirí an t-ádh leo uilig – gach rath orthu! (Buíochas le Daithí Ó Loinsigh a chuir peann le pár).
