THE ALL-STARS: Great football and fun again last Sunday at 11am at the Austin Stack Club in Connolly Park. Our youngsters are getting great enjoyment out of the sessions.

Everybody welcome, of course…fáilte roimh chách chuig an ngrúpa diagnóisbhunaithe seo….éinne a bhfuil diagnóis aige/aici. If interested in our Sunday morning session just come along or ask for information from Sarah (087-281 0239) or Sandra (087-294 6658).

PEIL FAOI 7 (born 2015/16/17): Our U7s played v St Pats with the usual Rock pride and passion last weekend and what brilliant football they played! The Reds of St Pats and the Black‘n’Ambers of The Street of Champions played outstanding football.

More great football will be played next Sunday in Connolly Park where we’ll welcome and challenge the boys from Killorglin, Laune Rangers,.

PEIL FAOI 9: More action ahead for our Under 9s! Peil, peil agus peil! (i) The Bracker ‘Regan Cup games continue on Thursday (22nd) and will continue for several weeks. (iii) We’ll play v Churchill on Sunday next (September 25th)….good fast-flowing skilful football expected!

(ii) Our much-looked-forward-to trip to the St Finbarr Club in Togher, Cork, is now pencilled in for October 15th. Let’s be prepared, boys! Work on your skills, eat healthily, early to bed and…agus bígí ullamh!

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) The Rock U11s played v Na Gaeil last Thursday (15th) in Connolly Park in the final round of the Central Region Board’s Go Games. Good entertaining football was played!

(ii) On Saturday we travelled about 120km to Glanmire in Cork to participate in that club’s annual Michael O’Leary Tournament in which 12 teams from Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Dublin took part. A feast of Gaelic football was witnessed. Our U11 stalwarts did us proud! They had a great outing. Great players in this group! Well done, boys! Well done, mentors!

PEIL FAOI 13: Central League Division 1B final….Austin Stack Club (Team Amber): 3-4 (13); John Mitchel Club B: 2-14 (20). Team Amber came agonisingly close in this epic final encounter with the John Mitchel Club U13s in Connolly Park on Sunday evening last (18th).

Once again, a strong start was made in the 1st half by Team Amber with an early Jack Delaney goal which was quickly followed up with a Matthew Guerin point. Our boys went on to dominate the opening quarter but, once again, were unable to reflect this superiority on the scoreboard.

Na Mistéalaigh got into the game, however, and some well-taken points had them in the lead midway through the half. Nathan O’Connor struck for another brilliant Rock goal and a fine pointed free from David Ahern left honours even at half-time….2-2 to 0-8.

The 2ndhalf followed a similar pattern to the 1st. Noah Reidy finished a lovely flowing team move to the net to give Team Amber an early three point advantage but the John Mitchel lads stayed in touch with great point-taking.

At the other end of the pitch, despite expertly working some good opportunities, Lady Luck deserted Team Amber at crucial moments. The Mitchel Club garsúns finally stole in behind the stalwart Rock defence for their first goal but, then, a couple of fine points from Karol Kowalczyk and Noah Reidy left only the bare minimum between the sides as we entered the home straight.

Rock stalwarts were giving their all! Hearts were throbbing with excitement on pitch and on sideline! Bhí an cluiche idir dhá cheann na meá! Team Amber had chances but, faraor, didn’t make hay when the sun shone!

Unfortunately for the Black‘n’Amber brigade, it was the Green‘n’Gold gang that struck the match-winning goal with time running out. As Team Amber threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the Bóthar Buí boys in an all-out effort to attack, to score and to rescue the game, the Mistéalaigh again exploited the space at the back to tack on a few points and to put a gloss on their final score.

Man-of-the-Match: Seán McCannon’s outstanding performance in goal was exceptional with fine saves, commanding clearances and excellent distribution with his kick outs. Ardfhear, a Sheáin!

The Team Amber of 30 boys can take great credit for all their efforts this year. They’re a good group of great Gaelic players…sárpheileadóirí gan aon agó! They have improved and grown individually and as a team and, although this was a tough defeat to take, they should be proud of their heroic efforts and learn from this experience. ‘Well done’ to imreoirí, bainisteoirí agus tuismitheoirí!

Congratulations to Na Mistéalaigh who are worthy champions and who gave another exhibition of point-taking. Thanks to the referee for his handling of the game.
