ANOTHER accolade was awarded to the Rock club on Monday when Austin Stacks were honoured with a Tralee Municipal District reception at Kerry County Council buildings.

The Austin Stacks club received the accolade because of the achievements on the sporting field over the past year, where they have scooped county and provincial honours.

The reception was also given to the club for the great sense of community and togetherness across Tralee, that came with the Rock’s run  to the All-Ireland club semi-final.

“Everybody was captivated by the recent campaign,” said Mayor of Tralee, Jim Finucane.

“It brought a great sense of community to the town and a great sense of anticipation. This reception is about giving thanks to all those people who were involved, from the players, mentors and the fans” said Jim Finucane.

Listowel man and Austin Stacks manager, Stephen Stack, has been humbled by the experience of leading the black and amber.

“It has been an amazing journey and I do feel very privileged to be involved with the club,” said Stephen Stack.

“It’s a brilliant club with a group of really committed players who showed incredible resilience and mental fortitude to come back from what happened to us in 2013 against Crokes in the county final,” said Stack.

It was an extremely proud evening for Austin Stacks chairman, Aidan O’Connor, who has presided over this latest wave of success.

“The last couple of years have been absolutely phenomenal. The work from the executive committee has been incredible. That has to trickle down to players and the fans who, it must be said, despite bringing buses of supporters around the country, there was never any trouble,” said Aidan O’Connor.

Also, in what was a special moment, former Radio Kerry sports presenter and Austin Stacks stalwart, Seamus O’Mahony, who sadly passed away just before Christmas, was posthumously honoured for his contribution to sport in the county.

His wife and family were there accept the honour.
