FAOI 12: These boys returned to training last Sunday and will continue their pre-season work on Sunday next at 1.30pm in Tralee Harriers Track. A good start to a good year!!
PEIL FAOI 14: Our Under 14 footballers had a great time at the Nemo Rangers Club last weekend when they took part in the annual Mick O’Brien Memorial Blitz. As well as our hosts, Nemo, we played St Vincents of Dublin, Oranmore/Maree of Galway, Dripsey of Cork and last year’s National Féile winners, Naas. Despite not having our full squad for both days we aquitted ourselves very well. We battled hard throughout the weekend, gained some very valuable experience in having game time against some of the best Under 14 teams in Éirinn iathghlas oileánach. Last year’s cup final paired Nemo and Naas and, six months later the same two clubs competed in the National Féile final. The standard of this tournament is so high! And The Rock is very near the top! Many of our boys could be trotting out on Croke Park ar Lá ‘le Pádraig in a few short years! On Saturday last the players experienced four types of weather in one day…grian, báisteach, gaoth agus sneachta…and we saw some fine footballers battling the elements and producing some eye-catching scores. Sunday saw near perfect conditions for football…and we kept our best until last against the boys from Dripsey. Captain for the weekend, Craig Ó Tíocháin, was presented with the Plate by former Cork senior player and bainisteoir Conor Counihan, and another Cork ‘legend’, Stephan O’Brien, after whose father the tournament is named, wished our seniors the best of luck in their forthcoming All-Ireland semi-final in Port Laoise. Thanks to all parents and coaches who made the weekend possible, to those who travelled to Cork both days and, gan dabht, to Nemo Rangers for once again pulling out all the stops and organising a top quality tournament. Well done, players!
