FAOI 8: What an excellent performance at the annual John Mitchel Club Invitational Tournament (Blitz) on Saturday last! This year, the Under 8 tournament was run on the Go Games format with 11-a-side teams and the match scores were not recorded by the referees…all pure football! Yes, we had good honest football that was enjoyed by all and not a card in sight…dubh, buí nó dearg!!

We were delighted with our boys who played exceptionally well against St Pats, John Mitchels, Ballmac, Desmonds and Ardfert…5 chluiche iontacha spórtúla. Congratulations to a top class group of players, to their mentors and to all who gave great support ar an lá. Many thanks also to Kevin McMahon and his John Mitchel Club committee for yet another excellently organised tournament.

The Rock squad: Cormac Bastible, Seán Barry, Gavin Casey, Ronan Carroll, Eoin Costello, Jake Carmody, Johnny Dawson, Kieran Devane, Oliver Lata, Jerry Lynch, Brendan Maunsell, Ben Murphy, Liam O’Connell, Tomás O’Connell, Mark Quinn, Jack Shanahan. Mighty men indeed!

FAOI 10: (i) What excellent performances at the annual John Mitchel Club Under 10 Invitational Tournament (Blitz) on Saturday last! We were the victors, having played exceptionally well and having gone undefeated throughout the event.

Following wins against St Pats, Na Mistéalaigh, Ballmac, Desmonds and Castlegregory in the group stage, a fantastic team performance saw the Rock emerge as worthy winners in the final against a top class and sporting team from Keel. We salute a great group of players, mentors and parents/families who gave great support ag an gcomórtas. Mórbhuíochas le Kevin McMahon and his John Mitchel Club committee.

(ii) We’re now heading into what should prove to be a most enjoyable couple of months for all as we’re planning a trip to the big Celbridge UNDER 10 Invitational Tournament in late August. Celbridge (Cill Droichid = Church of the Bridge) is in Co Kildare. Two Rock teams will take part and every Under 10-er will be travelling! Beware, ‘Lily Whites’, here we come!

(iii) Our boys will be part of the St Finbarr Club Tournament in Cork in early September. They’ll join clubs such as the ’Barrs (host club), Nemo Rangers, Douglas, Kilmacud Crokes and Round Towers from Kildare. (iv) NB…NB: Our senior trainer, Stephen Stack, on hearing of the fun that our UNDER 10 group is having, has asked if he could take Thursday’s training session and, so, everyone is to be in Connolly Park at 5.45pm for what will be a great evening!

(v) Our training sessions will continue ag 5:45pm on Thursdays in Connolly Park agus ag 11am on Sundays in Caherslee.

FAOI 11: (i) ‘Well done’ to our U11s who gave a great performance in the Town League against Na Gaeil last week. Thank you to the U10s who joined the team and wore the black and amber with pride. Great footballers in the making! The next Under 11 game will be v Ballymac on Thursday 30th July.

(ii) The Under 11 Town Board Tournament will start very soon. (iii) The season’s training sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in Caherslee. Go leor peile do gach duine!

FAOI 12/13/14: (i) U12 Central League (Sraith Láir) begins shortly. (ii) Our Under 13s gained the Kelliher’s Mills Town League points v Churchill and we’ll face Na Gaeil on Thursday 6th August in the final. Am (time) agus ionad (páirc) le socrú. Good luck, boys! (iii) Táimid ag súil go mór le Comórtas Peile an Róis…cup and shield. We hope to have a challenge game or two soon…mar ullmhúchán! (iv) We don’t expect to field an Under 13B team just yet. (v) Under 13 training will take place at 5.30pm on Tuesday in Connolly Park. (vi) Under 13/14 training will be held at on Wednesday (5pm – 6.15pm) and on Friday (5.30pm -6.45pm) in Connolly Park. (vii) On Monday last, our Under 14s faced Na Gaeil for the 3rd time this season…in Round 3 of the Central League We had a comfortable win, which makes three wins from three games! Imríodh an cluiche i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile. While we held the boys from Killeen scoreless in the second half, we didn’t have things all our own way! David Oba once again had to make two top drawer saves when only a point or two separated the teams. Mervyn Shalemba scored 1-1…his first scores at this level. He has shown a marked improvement in each game played. Not to be outdone, Luke Chester (there’s Déise blood in that man!) from the halfback line, also managed 1-1. In fact, over the course of the hour, four of the six backs got on the score sheet. Who says that backs can’t score? ‘Twas a good all round team performance with the whole squad getting valuable time on the pitch! Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí! (ii) We faced Castle Island Desmonds (away) on Monday 27th (7pm).

UNDER 16: (i) We gained the points from last week’s Under 16A game v K-O’R. The As will play their last league game v Lios a’Phúca in the coming week and a win will secure a County League semi-final place. (ii) Our unlucky Bs were narrowly beaten by St Senans.

CIARRAÍ: Best wishes to Kerry (seniors) v Kildare, Kerry (juniors) v Mayo and Kerry (minors) v Sligo.
