Austin Stacks CrestPEIL FAOI 6/8: (i) Great football was played v Laune Rangers on Sunday last. These not-so-competitive club v club games are great fun!

See you all again next Sunday at 11am, boys! (ii) Action for our Under 6/8 boys will also take place at 5.35pm on Thursday in Connolly Park. (iii) Legion (James O’Donoghue’s club) will travel to us on September 16th (Wednesday). That’ll be another enjoyable evening’s football when Senan Mac Coitir and his fellow Legionnaires will join us!

PEIL FAOI 9/10: (i) What a tremendous performance at the Togher grounds of the St Finbarr Club, Cork, last Saturday. Our brave Rockie U9s won the inaugural Canty Cup in great style. It was a superbly organised tournament, featuring Kilmacud-Crokes, Nemo Rangers, Douglas, Round Towers (Kildare) and the host club, in which our heroes progressed from early adversity against the ‘Barrs to post comprehensive wins against Nemo and Round Towers and reach the final. This presented our laocha iontacha with an opportunity to avenge the earlier reversal against the host club.

The format of 2 teams from each club playing each other simultaneously with the cumulative score counting provided for a hugely exciting final in which Stacks emerged victorious. Tremendous passing phases, an exemplary hard work ethic and some great score taking place throughout the day were the hallmarks of this successful raid on Leeside. The receipt of the cup by joint captains Paddy Lane and Mark Carmody sparked scenes of unbridled joy amongst our 27 heroes and made for a noisy bus journey home!!

‘Huge thanks’ to the St Finbarr Club and to the Canty family for the organising of a top class tournament and mórbhuíochas to all the parents and supporters who travelled on the day. (ii) We had little time for rest and recovery as we hosted Laune Rangers on the morrow in Caherslee.

Excellent performances were again the order of the day in the 3 matches played. (iii) The annual internal cup competitions will begin this Thursday night! So, please be there for team selection. (iv) The carousel will continue with the visit of Legion on September 16th (Wednesday). Oh, the excitement of all the activities! Lets keep the momentum and enjoyment going!!! See you all, lads, on Sunday morning! Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí!

PEIL FAOI 11/12: Our Under 12 team 1 played Ballyheigue in the Central League. The Ballyheigue boys played some great football but our boys came out on top. Team 3played K-O’R; we were too strong for our neighbours.

‘LEE STRAND’ UNDER 13 FOOTBALL: (i) The 30th Austin Stack Club Under Lee Strand Invitational Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday next (12th/13th). Connolly Park will be the place to be (for all matches)! First up at 11am will be Clontarf. Unlike Brian Ború in 1014 A.D, we will be hosting the opposition for the weekend! Our 2nd match will be v Na Piarsaigh (Cork) ag 1pm. We’ll complete our group games v Athlone at 3pm. Best of luck to the squad and to thanks to David Mannix a bheidh ag cabhrú linn ag an gcomórtas. We thank ”Lee Strand for the 30 years of sponsorship! (ii) The Under 13s will be as busy bees! Twenty players (2 teams) will travel to Legion for a ‘Super Sevens’ Blitz in the run up to the Lee Strand Tournament….a kind of a warm-up!
PEIL FAOI 14: (i) Our 14s have been having a rest since the Central League final but the action will kick off again on Wednesday next! We’ll travel to Churchill to play in the Tralee Board Under 14 League (6.30pm). We’ll have a bye in round 2. We’ll challenge our Killeen neighbours on the 23rd (Tuesday). If we win both games we we’ll retain the Division 1 trophy. That should be the last of the Under 14 competitions for the year. (ii) night: Our long awaited medal presentation ceremony for the all-conquering Féile Náisiúnta Peile champions was held on Friday last in the clubhouse.

Bhí an clubtheach plódaithe le daoine…lán go doras! Chairman, Aidan O’Connor, Juvenile Chairman, Tim McMahon, Tom Quilter, Daniel Bohane and Stephen Stack spoke in glowing tributes of the young men on the panel.

They even had a few surprises for the players, such as a commemorative jersey for each of the 25 lads, a DVD of some of the highlights of the weekend (brilliantly put together by Tim O’Rourke and Kerry Wellsbury using some of the hundreds of photos she had taken over the three days) and a team poster for each player. It was away better than being at the Late Late Show. It is hoped that the medals and DVDs will be put somewhere safe to be a future reminder of a magical weekend! It is expected that this talented bunch will go on to bigger and better things in the Black’n’Amber! Thanks to Daniel and Stephen for taking time out from senior duties to present the medals and for the words of wisdom which our players certainly took in.

3-WEEK GAELTACHT TRIP: Feedback from a parent whose son was able to spend 3 weeks in the Kerry Gaeltacht with financial help from CLC: “Just a ‘thank you’ for the Austin Stack Club and GAA contribution towards Irish College for our son. He had an amazing time and enjoyed his 3 week Gaeltacht holiday very much. He made so many new friends, all of whom are in the GAA, from Tipperary, Cork and Dublin. He said that the banter and the football games were great! Go raibh míle maith agat”.
