FAOI 10: (i) Ardfert were the visitors to Connolly Park on Sunday last and we had two excellent games. ‘Performance of the week’ came from the brilliant Jamie O’Shea who bagged no less than eight goals in the Under 9 game. Wow! (ii) Thursday football for our Under 10s in CONNOLLY PARK at 7pm. (ii) Cathair Sailí will be our Sunday morning venue…ag 11am.

FAOI 11: Our Under 11s travelled to Killarney on Sunday last and maintained their unbeaten run with a fine victory over Dr Crokes. Yes, five-in-a-row for our lads and this was their best team performance to date! With the match just minutes old, Ciarán Kelliher bagged 2 goals in quick succession. Jordan Kissane followed with another ‘trademark’ burst from midfield for another goal. Ben Quilter was having a quiet time in goal but when danger did arise he was well able to leap high to save! Scór ag leatham: 5-6 to 1-1. James Charles kicked scores from all over the field to finish with a ‘team high’ of 1-7. Donnacha Fox and Evan Foley worked hard throughout the encounter to win a lot of possession. In the end it was a comfortable win for The Rock. An scór deireanach: 5-13 to 4-6. Maith sibh, a leaideanna!

FAOI 12: (i) On Sunday last our Under 12s’ football odyssey took them to Lewis Road to play the Dr Croke Club for the 2nd time in 2014. We travelled with confidence, having registered a 5 point winning margin in our previous encounter. However, the cliche ‘a game of two halves’ perfectly sums up this contest. We started in hesitant mode with none of our charges winning their individual battles. This left us trailing at half time…5-11 to 0-4. The second half saw us much more competitive but our first half collapse left a gap that couldn’t be bridged. We tightened up at the back and improved considerably but lost the second half by a mere 3 points. Final score: 5-17 to 0-7. Scorers: Luke Chester, James Fernane, Conor Horan, Cian Purcell and Liam Tobin. (ii) Training continues on Monday and on Wednesday…6pm to 7.30pm. See you all then, lads!

FAOI 15: ‘Well done’ to our Under 15 Supertouch Blitz boys!

FAOI 14: (i) Best wishes to our Under 14 boys who’ll represent The Kingdom at the Féile Náisiúnta Pheil na nÓg games in Galway/Mayo next weekend.

We will be hosted by Barna GAA Club, just outside Galway City and beyond Salthill, and all are looking forward to a great weekend of fine weather, good fun, new friends and skilful football. Tá Stacaigh Thrá Líar an tslí! Thanks to Lorraine Scanlon (who has been the chief organiser of the trip) and to her team for all the hard work over the past few weeks. We will be leaving the club grounds at 10.30am on this Friday. Our first game will be v Salthill/Cnoc na Cathrach (Galway) at 5pm.

Our second game will be at 6.20pm v the Derry Féile champions, Magherafelt,. On Saturday morning at 11am our hosts, Barna, will turn rivals in the last round of the group.

This will be followed by either a Cup or Shield quarter final (on Saturday). If lucky enough to win, we’ll be off to Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, on Sunday where all semi-finals and finals will be played. Check your atlas…Ballyhaunis (not far from Knock) is a good drive from Bearna na Gaillimhe!

This is a big undertaking and we have been fortunate to benefit from a range of fund raising efforts and sponsorship for which we would like to express our gratitude to BARRYS’ BAKERY, TERRY HEALY BUTCHERS, LEE STRAND, ADAMS’ BAR AND RESTAURANT DINGLE, TESCO, OFFICEANDINK, OUR OWN CLUB, COISTE NA nÓG THRÁ LÍ and COISTE NA nÓG CHIARRAÍ for their support.

It really is greatly appreciated by all! A big ‘thank you’ also to mentors Dave Scanlon, Mike “Chips” Clifford, Mike Casey, Paudie McQuinn and Gene O’Donnell for all the time and effort that they have put in all year. And finally, ‘go raibh maith agaibh’ to the boys themselves who are at the centre of it all.

Everyone in the club and in The Rock community is proud of everything that you have achieved to date and we all send our best wishes. We hope that the whole squad has a memorable weekend, both on and off the field.

Boys, you will be representing yourselves, your families and your club and county. Check HYPERLINK “http://www.austinstacks.ie” www.austinstacks.ie for UPDATES from Galway/Mayo! (ii) ‘Well done’ to our trio of hurlers, Michael Slattery, David Couchman and Craig Ó Tíocháin, who did very well with Abbeydorney at the Hurling Féile in Belfast over the past weekend. An cluiche sciliúil!
