The death through cancer of his cousin a number of years bac, was the reason he chose the Kerry Hospice.

“I just had a feeling all along I would win it,” he said.

Over 100 competitors took part in the competition, the aim of which is to pick a correct winning team in a Premier League match each week. Participants must choose a different club each week and can’t choose one that have previously selected to win.

It took 13 rounds before David was the last man standing and he got there in exciting fashion. With himself and one other player left, David opted for Stoke to beat Everton away.

When Stoke went down 3-1 at one stage it wasn’t looking good for David, but the ‘Potters’ pulled off an incredible comeback and eventually win a thrilling 4-3.

No stranger to big bets, last September, David was on the verge of winning €10,000 off a €100 accumulator.

All he needed was Kerry to beat Dublin to bring the bet home…we all know how that went!
