FAOI 16: Ballymac 2-10 Castleisland Desmonds 3-06

Last Sunday evening we played Castleisland Desmonds in the final of Castleisland District. Things didn’t go our way in the first half and we went in at the break eight points down. Things didn’t look good for us as we faced a stiff breeze in the second half but the management had other ideas and got the lads going and they came out all guns blazing. Slowly now the boys started to pick away at the score board and with our defence now on top, and with a minute to go and trailing by two points our boys made one final push and stuck the ball into the back of the net. We now took the lead for the first time in the game which we were to hold until the final whistle. Great credit must be given to the players for their never say die attitude and to the management team of John Creagh, Gerard Regan and Liam Mc Elligott. Keelan Brosnan collected the trophy on behalf of his team mates and gave a wonderful speech in which he thanked Castleisland for a great game of football, referee Jim O Connor and complimented Cordal on their new field which was in excellent condition.

FAOI 14: ARDFERT 3-4 BALLYMAC 4-11

We travelled to Ardfert last Wednesday evening in splendid sunshine for what was a must win game for us. Points from Josh and Cillian Gallagher got us off to a good start. However Ardfert’s first score was a goal. A Dara Keane point was followed by a great move which saw the superb Liam O’Brien pick out Barry Lyons with a long pass and he made no mistake finding the net. Barry added another point to put us 1-4 to 1-1 after 20 minutes. Dara Keane found the net with an overhead flick but a mix up in our goalmouth saw Ardfert goal again. Half time score Ballymac 2-4 Ardfert 2-1.

The introduction of Dara Leen and Dara Broderick and moving Barry closer to goals worked well for us in the second half. After an early Josh point Dara Leen drove upfield and picked out Barry who again found the net Ardfert replied with two points before Dara Broderick raced forward and sent a long ball into Barry who goaled for a third time. Dara Keane and Dara Broderick each pointed while Ardfert scored 1-1 ,Ballymac 4-7 to 3-4 ahead after 20 minutes.

Ardfert did not score again and our final points came from Dara Keane (3) and Barry. Tadhg Brick had a guest appearance in goals, Cathal Dunne was in fine form at centre back ,while the Nolan twins and Dylan McHugh tried hard, We are now into the semi final of this competition and are due to play stacks B away on 24th September.

TEAM T Brick,J Sugrue, D Nolan, C Godley,L O’Brien, C Dunne,C Nolan, J O’Keeffe,(0-2)B Lonergan, C Gallagher (0-1) B Lyons (3-2) D Lynch, D McHugh, D Keane (1-5) D Chawke, subs D Leen, D Broderick (0-1) J Carmody, D Lynch.

FAOI 12: Ballymac 3 – 17 Castleisland Desmonds 0-9

The boys put the disappointment of some recent games behind them and returned to winning ways with this result against Desmonds. The first was an even affair but towards the end of the half our lads started to dominate. Dara Leen was key to this with our forwards especially Aidan O Brien and Kyle O Connor providing a great outlet for incoming ball. We led at half time on a score of 0-11 to 0-5. The second half was dominated by Ballymac despite Desmonds getting the opening two scores, we took control thereafter. A couple of well taken goals by Aidan the deflated Desmonds resolve and Ballymac ran out comfortable winners.

FAOI 12: Ballymac Gold Team 5-12 Castleisland Desmonds 5-06

We played our first game of the Castleisland District last Thursday evening away to our near neighbours Castleisland Desmonds and after a tough battle we came out on top by six points. This is a great start to the campaign and we take on Currow this Friday evening in Round 2 and hopefully the boys can record another victory here.

OPEL BLITZ

Our U10 team participated in a very successful blitz organised by Opel held in Castleisland on Saturday last. We played three games against Currow, Na Gaeil and Desmonds. Our 22 players who attended all got equal game time, those who impressed included Mossie Brennan, Maurice O Connell, Gary Lynch, Mark O Connor and Kieran Slattery. While it was great to see Luke O Connell back in action following his lay off with a hand injury. The highlight of the day came when Inter County stars Colm Cooper and Ciaran Kilkenny oversaw a coaching session for our boys. Both lads posed for photographs and signed autographs after the session. It was a day our lads would not forget in a hurry. Thanks to all parents who test drove cars as part of the Opel Kit for Clubs promotion.

ACADEMY: Well done to our U6 boys who put in a fantastic performance on Sunday morning against St. Pats especially Sean Mc Conolgue, Micheal Quirke, Eoghan Joy, Ryan Burke, Gearoid O’Connor and John Leen. Our U8 boys were in action against St Pats and put on a highly entertaining game for their supporters, those to impress on the day included Gearoid Healy, Connor Daly, Luke Silles, Sam Slattery, Shane Crossan and Micheal O’Connell. There will be no Academy on Sunday 21st due to the All – Ireland Final.

LADIES FLAG DAY: Míle Buiochas to all who volunteered their time last Saturday for the girls flag day. Your support is much appreciated.

MILE BUIOCHAS: Many Thanks to St. Pats U8 & U6 boys for coming to Ballymac on Sunday to play our boys.
