BallymacFAOI 15 BALLYMAC 2-10 NA GAEL 2-6

We finished the season in style winning the Coiste Tra-Lí under 15 championship last Saturday evening under lights at the Mitchels grounds Ballyseedy. Luckily the rain which had poured down all evening disappeared before throw in. When these teams met last year Na Gael had a 12 point winning margin so we were hoping to do better this time. Even though we fielded a stronger team ,few could have predicted the level of performance our boys gave. A superb defensive effort ,inspirational blockdowns by Eoin O’Malley and Josh come to mind, and a high energy game plan were the main reasons for this victory.

Dara Clifford pointed for us inside the first minute to give us a lead we never lost . We might have got in for a goal before Dara Reagan powered forward and pointed. James McDonnell somehow got hold of the ball in a group of players before passing to Daire Keane who finished to the net. A dubious enough penalty was goaled by Na Gael but straight from the kickout Keelan won possession and raced through again finding the net. What a response !!!.Na Gael pointed once more Ballymac replied with two points from Ml Hoare and one from Keelan . Na Gael pointed late in the half but they were forced into long range kicking some of their efforts either going wide or into Brian Lonergans hands. Half time score Ballymac 2-5 Na Gael 1-2.

We got a great start to the second half Keelan kicking two fine points, captain fantastic in majestic form. Na Gael got two points before the tenth minute and we then went twelve minutes without either side scoring. With about 6 minutes left Tadhg Brick ran upfield picked out Darragh Reagan with a long crossfield pass and he made no mistake getting a valuable point. Na Gael pointed again before Josh drove forward to get a super point. Na Gael then scored a goal and a point in quick succession to leave us 3 points up with a few minutes remaining. Ml Hoare won a hard earned free and when Liam O’Malley pointed referee Paul Hayes blew for full time much to the delight of all in the Ballymac camp including a large number of supporters who braved the elements. Apart from those already mentioned Cathal Dunne, Eddie Rodgers and Liam O Brien worked tirelessly in defence to keep Na Gael at bay, Eoghan O Malley ,Keelan and Dara Reagan were outstanding.

Dara Keane,Liam O Malley and Josh got through an amount of work while David Nolan, David Rodgers, Dara Clifford and James Mc Donnell all played their part in a thrilling victory. After the game captain Keelan Brosnan was presented with the trophy by Colm Mangan of Coiste Tra-Li and the celebrations duly began at the end of a hugely satisfying night for mentors Roland Rodgers, Tony Silles,Gene o Keeffe and John Creagh.

ACADEMY REVIEW U8 GIRLS

This was the first year that the under 8 girls had the opportunity to play other teams on a regular basis and we definitely feel they enjoyed football a lot more as a result. They participated in Blitzes in Listowel and Abbeydorney as well as games against Mitchels, Na Gaeil, Austin Stacks, Desmonds and Duagh. It is great to see the encouragement the girls are getting at home and this was particularly evident with the turnout we got at away fixtures. Great credit is due to team mentors Don Brosnan, John Scanlon and Terence O Connor who devoted their time throughout the year to further the skills of these young girls. In particular we would like to thank Ciara and Michelle who provide much needed encouragement and mentoring to the younger girls and to Niamh and Claire who help out when needed.
Panel : Alice Brosnan, Aoibhinn Broderick, Maggie Scanlon, Laura Kelly, Rachel Creedon, Kate Collins, Labhaoisse Mansfield, Niamh Rice, Aishlín Bailey, Debra o Connor, Rose Brosnan, Sileonagh Mansfield,
