Ballymac U14 Girls

Our under 14 ladies travelled to Templenoe on Sunday last 02/04 to take on the Inbhear Sceine Gaels girls in the first round of Division 2 of the County League.

On at the early time of 11am to accommodate the girls to travel back to Killarney to see Kerry playing an early start Sunday morning was required.

Great credit to the parents who had all players in the grounds   forty minutes before the throw in. In perfect conditions with a slight breeze we ended the first half down a point on a score line of 0-5 to 1-1 .

Both teams found scores hard to come by but in saying that there was some excellent defending from both teams. Cora Savage found the net to get us on the score board with an excellent run beating several defenders to finish to the net with aplomb. This was the least  the girls deserved at that stage due to their hard work and determination up to then.

The second half started with Ballymac having the aid of the slight breeze and had to withstand a lot of pressure from the home side conceding a fortuitous goal  to leave us trailing by 3 again but the girls rallied brilliantly with Sinead Mc Keown and Cora Savage dominating at centre field to take the lead with five minutes to go.

Grainne Galvin chipped in with a goal to give us a point lead . The south Kerry girls replied with a point to leave it level going into injury time . While we had a chance to win it , it was the south kerry girls who got the winning point to take the spoils with a deflected shot which went over.

This was a game in which neither team deserved to lose. For Ballymac, Lorna Daly played excellent in goals making some great saves and clearances. All the backs played well on the day but Roisin Rahilly excelled in the half back line ably assisted by Roisin Long.

Sinead(1-0) and Cora (1-5) carried the game through out to the opposition from centre field and up front all the girls gave it their  all with Kate O Connor, captain Mary Ann Fleming and Grainne Galvin(1-0) trying hard.

Ballymac 6-4 Glenflesk 3-4

The under 16 girls got their campaign underway Tues night 4th April at home to Glenflesk played in good dry conditions , Ballymac made a great start with Emily O Donaghue putting 1-1 to her name within 5minutes .

We dominated the 1st half with our defense well on top in particular the full back line of Roisin Long , Niamh Rahilly & Eve Creedon . We kept Glenflesk to just one point to 4-2 at half time .

Aine Rice ,Elle Mc Elligott and Emily O Donaghue adding a goal a piece and Lisa Curran adding a point .

The 1st quarter of the 2nd half saw Glenflesk mount a mini comeback adding 3-3 , however the Ballymac girls assumed control again spurred on by a brilliant individual goal from Niamh Rahilly , points from Aine Rice and sub Mary Ann Fleming , another late goal from Emily to give her a hot-trick following good pass from Lisa put the icing on the cake leaving the final score 6-4 to 3-4 in our favour .

A great start but most importantly was the work rate shown by all girls including those that came on that was very encouraging .

All played very well on the night in addition to those mentioned already Caroline Hurley  Caoimhe Carroll & Maeve O Sullivan played very well too as did goalie & captain Robyn White . FAOI 14

Both Ballymac U14 teams continued their county league campaigns last Wednesdayevening. Our U 14 A Team Played Kilcummin last Wednesday in Round Two of the Division one County League.

Led by Captain Adam Walker we got off to a whirlwindstart, and we led by 2-04 to 0-01 after 17 minutes with Sean Horan scoring our first Goal.

Adam O’ Keefe was playing well in goals, James Bailey and Ryan Mc Hugh defended heroically, and up front Dylan Barry and Donal Daly caught the eye of the supporters. A couple of minutes before half time Kilcummin hit us for 2-01 against the run of play.

However we led 3-05 to 2-01 at the break with our third goal coming from Donal Daly. The first half Belonged to Gary Lynch who contributed 1-03 with a superb performance.

However, fair play to Kilcummin they came out in the second half a team inspired, putting us under pressure, and they were rewarded with 2 early goals to put themselves in with a great chance of getting a result.

Our Boys showed great leadership once more and responded well with three unanswered points, which looked like putting us in the Driving seat, leading by two points.

This game was turning out to be a classic. Once again, Kilcummin fought back and with only a few minutes left, they scored 3 unanswered points to clinch the win by the minimum margin. Thanks to Kilcummin for a great sporting game and to all the parents for their support on the Night.

The Team was Adam O’ Keefe, Adam Walker, James Bailey, Andy Rogers, Ryan Mc’ Hugh, Denis Brosnan, Darragh Sweeney, Adam Joy, Adam Kelly, Dylan Barry O’ Connell, Sean Horan, Adam Sheehy, Byran Godley, Donal Daly, and Gary Lynch. Congratulations to our two Ballymac Under 14 girls

Well done to Cora Savage and Sinead McKeown on Saturday 08/04 with the Kerry under 14 ladies beating Tipperary 5-9 to 1-2 in the Munster Championship.

These two girls have some super talent and we look forward to seeing more form them in the future. It was great to see all the Ballymac supporters in attendance to cheer on the girls.

Farewell to The Gooch!

Ballymac GAA would like to wish The Gooch the very best in his retirement from The Senior Kerry Team, he has been a driving force in Kerry GAA for many years and his talents will surely be missed.

He has left a lasting legacy in Kerry GAA and has been a huge inspiration to many players , some who are now on the Kerry senior side today.

We would also like to congratulate the Kerry Senior side on their great win over Dublin on Sunday in Allianz League Final. Its great to have the Silver wear back on the county.
