Ballymac A 2-06 Laune Rangers A 5-14

Ballymac lads travelled to Killorglin last Wednesday night in our 4th round of the County League. We started very well with both teams playing some excellent football. Some great attacking play by Ballymac unfortunately did not register enough on the score board and its was Laune Rangers who finished the stronger in first half with two quick goals just before the short whistle to leave half time score of 1 03 to 3 03 in favour of the home team.

Delighted with the first half performance Ballymac lads held their heads up high. However it was Laune Rangers who started the second half very well scoring from every attack but credit goes to the Ballymac lads they never gave up and finished the stronger team in the final 15mins. Many positives can be taken from the game and more to do in training. Thanks to those who supported on the night.

Ballymac U12 A and B teams played Fossa in Ballymac last Sunday the 30th of April. The U12 Blue Team registered their first win of the season last Sunday evening against Fossa in Ballymac.

The overall team display, work rate and honest effort were the key factors in this win. In the first half we attacked relentlessly and again Niall Collins was outstanding. He was assisted by Luke Horgan, Michael Prendergast and Raymond Lowe.

Our defence were particularly good. Defending without conceding frees and setting up attacks. Cian McCarthy and Padraig Heffernan were good. All throughout Diarmaid Galvin played brilliantly from midfield and showed real class.

The team continued to dominate in the second half and showed resilience and determination to win this one.

Niall was unstoppable and subs Sam Mansfield, Alvero Marquez and Evan Boyle contributed enormously in winning this game. It’s great to see the lads play to their potential as we have Ardfert away next Sunday. Well done lads. Final score. Ballymac 4-12 Fossa 3-8.

Ballymac played host to their near neighbours John Mitchel’s in an U16 Central District game on Monday 24th of April. Ballymac had yet to secure a win in this competition and would have to get points if they were to have any chance of making the semifinal stages.

Mitchel’s started the brighter and had 1-02 on the score board before Ballymac registered a point through David Rogers. Shortly after Dylan Dunne Moriarty and the Mitchel’s full forward exchanged points.

Mitchel’s widened the gap by scoring a further 1-01. Ballymac settled into the game and scored four more points before the half time whistle to leave the score at Ballymacelligott 0-06 to John Mitchel’s 2-04.

Shortly after the break, two points from Dylan Dunne Moriarty, and a point a piece from Brian Cassidy and Jack Tobin levelled matters. A goal and a point from the visitors put 4 between the teams again.

However, a point from Aidan O’ Brien and a goal from Dylan Dunne Moriarty left the teams level again. Ballymac went on to score 8 more points before the final whistle to John Mitchels 1-01. This left the final score at Ballymacelligott 1-19 to John Mitchels 4-06.

TEAM: Eoghan Kenny, Cian Godley, Ciaran Brosnan, Aidan O’ Brien, Liam O’ Brien. Dean Lenihan, Jonathan Lowe, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Brian Cassidy, Daragh Leen, Daragh Lynch, Jack Tobin, David Rogers, Diarmuid Lynch, Dylan McHugh, Sean Horan, Adam Joy.

Ballymac U16’s travelled to Ardfert on Monday May 1st to play the home side in this U16 Central District semifinal.

When these two sides met earlier in the competition Ardfert emerged victorious on a scoreline of Ardfert 0.18 to Ballymac 2.6. Ardfert started the game the brighter and had 1.4 on the scoreboard before Ballymac registered a point. This came from David Rogers. Jonathan Lowe and Brian Cassidy added two more points.

Ardfert added on five more points to Ballymac.s two before half time. This left the half time score at Ardfert 1-09 to Ballymac 0-05. Early in the second half Sean Horan reduced the deficit to four points when he goaled for Ballymac. This was cancelled out by Ardfert when the ref awarded them a controversial goal shortly after.

Dylan Dunne Moriarty replied with a point from play. Ballymac scored one more point in the second half this coming from Liam O’ Brien. Ardfert went on to score a further 1.2 to leave the final score at Ardfert 3-11 to Ballymac 1-07.

Ballymac u14 girls v Rathmore

Ballymac played Rathmore at 7 PM in Rathmore on Saturday, 29 April. Conditions for the game were dry but there was a very cold wind blowing straight down the pitch.

Having won  the coin toss Rathmore opted to play with the wind. In the opening half an hour it must have taken 12 to 13 minutes before the first score was kicked by Rathmore this was largely due to a very stubborn Ballymac defence who rejected wave after wave of Rathmore attacks.

Playing with the wind Rathmore managed to kick one goal and seven points in contrast to a Ballymac forward line who were finding it difficult to retain the ball in the opening half, only managing to convert one point against the wind but what a point it was.

Sinead Mckeown took the ball from deep in her own half, passed it off to Mary Ann Fleming who passed to Kate O’Connor who linked well with a one two to Laura Dunne before the final pass to Yvonne Hurley who took the option of a point when a chance of a goal may have been on.

This point would prove critical later. Halftime score Rathmore one goal and six points Ballymac one point.

With the wind at their backs Ballymac soon got off the mark and really dominated proceedings kicking three unanswered points. Missing a few frees and some scoring opportunities the clock was ticking down.

Full credit to Cora Savage who was suffering an illness and did not start but togged off for the last 15 minutes. Cora’s impact was immediate kicking a goal and three points in that time.

A blatant jersey tug on Cora with only the keeper to beat was missed by the match officials while moments later Cora set up Emily O’Brien who was bearing down on goal in the dying minutes of the game but it wasn’t to be as the defiant Rathmore keeper held strong for the impending shot.

Overall, given that we were down one goal and six at half time and without our marks woman for most of the game the draw was a welcome result.

The team lined out as follows in goals Lorna Daly, Grainne Galvan,Aoife Galvan ,Millie Dunne,  Alyssa Leen,  Roisin Long, Ciara Palmer, Sinead Mckeown,Emily OBrien,Yvonne Hurley, Roisin Rahilly, Mary Ann Flemming,Eamer Curran,Kate O Connor,Laura Dunne, Subs: Shona Griffin, Ellie lenihan,Holly Geary,Katie Enright,Jade Riordan ,Cora Savage ,Kerry Hennessey.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a night for rolling out the bench the game was too tight and hopefully opportunities to give everybody a run will arise in the next game.

Writing themselves into the team reports every week the Gavin sisters in defence along with Róisín Long, Alyssa Leen, Ciara Palmer ,Millie Dunne and of course our rocksteady goalkeeper Lorna Daly had a fantastic game.

Up front the girls battled hard but it was a game of defences and the girls, although trying their best found  scoring opportunities hard to come by.
Scorers on the night  Cora Savage one goal three points Mary Ann Fleming, Sinead Mckeown,Emily O’Brien and Yvonne Hurley one point each.
