Ballymac Senior County League Fixtures

Ballymac will be away to Ballydonoghue  on Saturday 03/06 at  7.3pm.  We welcome all support in the crucial League game.

Ballymac  u14 Ladies V Rathmore

Ballymac u14 ladies and Rathmore went head to head in the county league division two final last Tuesday evening in Rathmore.

Ballymac Under 14 team.

The sides could not be separated in their last outing and the game finished 1-07 a piece just a few weeks ago in Rathmore.

On Tuesday Rathmore started the stronger and quickly converted the first point. Ballymac  counter acted with a point of their own but overall in the first half Ballymac were overcome by the occasion while the home team settled quickly, by the time the nerves settled for Ballymac Rathmore had opened up a commanding lead.

Some hard luck and some staunch defending saw Ballymac miss a total of five goal opportunities  throughout the game where as the home advantage was evident with Rathmore converting goals at will capatalising on some nervous Ballymac defending.

H/T score Ballymac  1.04 Rathmore 5:08

Where most teams would throw in the towel at half time Ballymac came out fighting. Dominating possession from the throw in Ballymac were quickly back on the score sheet but it was not to be their night , rattling the woodwork and some magnificent saves by the Rathmore keeper meant the first half haul of scores proved too big a gap to bridge for the Ballymac girls.

Rathmore to their credit although only scoring three second half points due to a rejuvenated Ballymac defence defended really well and threw their bodies on the line to block up the waves of Ballymac attacks.

Cora savage and Sinead McKeown proved their class on the night for Ballymac and it was Captain Lilly O’ Brien and Maura O’ Keeffe of Rathmore who shone brightly and it was her fielding and penetration that drove Rathmore to victory.

While the full time score of 5:11 Rathmore v 2:10 Ballymac might suggest the game was a one sided affair I don’t think Rathmore could relax until the final whistle blew. On a night where the woodwork assisted two of the Rathmore points in the first half and the same posts in contrast kept two goals out for Ballymac the momentum was with the home team.

A large crowd turned out to watch the teams and they were treated to a magnificent game of football that had everything on the night.

Congratulations to Rathmore who are worthy champions and comiserations to a pure footballing Ballymac side who will now focus their efforts on the Division 1 north Kerry league campaign later in the summer.

Best of luck to Cora Savage, Maura O’Keeffe and Lilly O’ Brien who now focus their efforts on furthering  Kerry’s cause in the U14 all ireland title campaign.

Blue Team Division 4

The boys under 12 blue team will play their next County League at home on Tuesday the 30th of May at 6.00pm against Milltown/Castlemaine. Training continues on Friday at 7.00 pm. Ballymac U12 boys will take part in the Diarmuid O’ Brien memorial football blitz in Newmarket again this year. We will be looking to make it three in a row when we look to defend the trophy we won the last two years. The blitz will take place on the 24th of June.

Gold Team Division 6 We travelled to Gneeveguila on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon for what was to turn out to be a very tough encounter against a strong Gneeveguila side. We started off really well and had 4points on the board before Gneeveguila registered their first score. The lads went in at half time leading by 5points and this should have been more only for a few mistakes. After the half time team talk the boys came out determined to do their best and they did just that by playing some brilliant off the shoulder football. We ran out winners by 6 points in the end on a score line of Gneeveguila 5-10 to Ballymac 5-16. It has to be said that the lads stood up to Match day Squad:

Conor Martin, Cathal White, Evan o’ Brien, Tom Long, Jamie Burke, Jack Slattery (C), Conor Daly, Alex Riordan, Jamie Lynch, Shane Gilroy, Micháel Savage, Sean Rice, Niall Collins .

U12 C Team Division 4B

The Ballymac C team will play Milltown/Castlemaine in Ballymac on Tuesday evening the 30th of May at 6.00pm.
