The Ballymac side who played Kenmare on Sunday.

SENIORS: First round of the Div 2 County League

Referee – Brendan Griffin , Clounmacon

Ballymac 0- 12

Kenmare – 2-07

On Sunday 11th of March Ballymac were host to Kenmare in the First Round of the Division 2 County League. With a great attendance and warmer weather than recent weeks it was a please to have the opportunity to host our opening game.

This game started with an already determined Ballymac side whose defence denied the visitors from putting a mark on the score board for the first 6 minutes until Kenmares Ciaran O’Sullivan broke through to score the first point of the match. But Ballymacs own Aiden Breen responded within a minute to level the score keeping the visitors on their feet.

Ballymac fought on but with a series of opportunities unfortunately resulting in four successive wides and 2 more points from Kenmares  Paul O’Connor and James Duncan managing to get the ball past the Ballymac keeper resulting in the first goal of the game widening the game further . Ballymac did respond with 2 more points , one from Shane O’Reilly and a well placed free from Aiden Breen leaving the half time score at Ballymac 0-03 to Kenmares 1-04.

You would be forgiven for thinking that you were at a completely different game in the second half. Ballymacs Vinny Horan took every opportunity to bring his side back and by being in the right place at the right time and  scored 3 outstanding points and with Aiden Breen showing that his experience was key when he also landed 3 more outstanding points leading his team forward.

The gap was well narrowed but Kenmare fought well to maintain their lead  with Paul O’Connor placing 1-01 to their favour and Kevin O’Sullivan handing their team 2 further points. The Ballymac side pushed forward and the hard work paid off when Shane O’Reilly, Michael Reidy and Mike Hoare each scored a point leaving just 1 point in the difference at the final minute.

However referee Brendan Griffin gave 6 minutes injury time where both teams worked hard to leave as the point takers in this first round.  In an outstanding battle to the final whistle it was Kenmare who took the points home on this occasion.

Ballymac brought an outstanding display to the field today and well done to team and management on this promising start to the season. Congratulations to Kenmare today on taking home your first points and we wish you the best in the season.

Under 14 boys

Our U14 Team travelled to Killeen to play the locals in Round 2 of the Tralee District League on Saturday. Playing with a stiff breeze and short two of our regular Team ,we were slow to get out of the blocks and were down 1 02 To 0 01pt after Ten mins .  Our forwards were creating some good Scoring chances and with a little luck ,we could have been out of sight after 20 mins having missed a few scoring chances .Sean rice & Niall Collins were really Dominant in the half foward line . Luke o Connell & Donal Daly tried hard at midfield , Luke & Aidan Horgan Showed great determination in the back line as Did Diarmaid Galvin @ Eoin creedon in the full back line . However we found ourselves down 4 Pts at the interval . Against the wind in the second half we really tried hard , and some of our foward play was a joy to watch . The half was end to end stuff and when Donal Daly struck for goal with three minutes left , it left the minimum between the sides . However in the last play we were unlucky not to score , but great credit to the players  for a massive effort . The final score was Ballymac 2 11 Na Gaeil 4 06 .  Thanks to parents for supporting us on the Day
