Na Gaeils Ian McCarthy and again Jamie Lowham responded quickly to Ballymacs retaliation with yet 2 more points to take the lead half way through the first half but it was Ballymacs Aiden Breen who skillfully landed the ball in back of the Na Gael net to score the only goal of the game and to give the team the lead , it was 1-02 to Ballymac to 5 points to Na Gael. The game went into half time with Ballymac leading the host side by 2 points . 1-06 to 0-07.

The second half got off to a slow start when it took Na Gael 6 minutes to narrow the gap and with 3 successive points they edged ahead. At the 20 minute mark Ballymac finally responded and each team battled for the lead , point for point in the final minutes it was an outstanding show down until over 2 minutes into injury time the referee blew his whistle to leave the game level.

The final score was Na Gael 0-13 – Ballymac 1-10

Ballymac Boys under 14

Our u 14s played round 2 of the county league against Fossa in Ballymac . Captained by Gary Lynch, we got off to a blistering start and after 20 mins we lead 2 05 to 3pts . Sean Rice was outstanding in this period , contributing 2 points from play and he set up Niall Collins for a cracking goal . Maurice o Connell scored 3 points from play , Diarmaid Galvin added another Goal , but the delivery of ball from James Kenny Andy Rogers Luke o Connell & Jamie Sugrue was excellent. But Fossa rallied well hitting 2-04 and were well in the game at half time losing by 2 points, 2-07 to 2-05 .

Maurice O Connell scored another goal early in the second half to give us an early Advantage , but these teams were evenly matched as Fossa hit back with a goal of their own . Luke o Connell was solid at centre back , Luke & Aidan Horgan showed big improvement once again & Mossie Brennan seems to be back to his best with another gutsy performance . In a frantic last ten minutes , we showed great resilience to hold out and get two valuable league points on a score line of Foss 4-08 Ballymac  5-07 . Well done to all players on a great Display .

Thanks to all parents for their support on the night .

Ballymac Girls U14

Beaufort 4-5 Ballymac 4-7

The U14 girls travelled to Beaufort on Sunday 8th of April to take on the local team in round 2 of Div 2 Co League. Though Beaufort had a lot of play throughout the game our ability to defend and hang on plus we made the most of our scoring opportunities on the night . One point separated us at half time 2-5 to 3-3 with Ciara Palmer and Eimer Curran goaling  for us and points from Eimer , Roisin,Shona Griffen and Ciara .Kerry Hennessey was outstanding in the first half at wing back .  We made a good few changes for the 2nd half but Beaufort started the better going 5 points up quickly, however our girls rolled the sleeves up and started to reel Beaufort back in . Roisin Rahilly & Ella Quirke now at midfield drove us forward as did Alyssa Leen now at center back . Shonagh O Connor shot for point found the net and Ciara & Alyssa Leen points had us level with time up . Beaufort won a 21yrd free and pointed to what most thought was the winner. Roisin and Alyssa combined and Ciara’s shot was spilled by the Beaufort goalie but Eimer Curran followed up and did very well to swivel and plant the ball in the net to secure a 2 point win for us . Never give up !!!

Ballymac under 12 Girls

Our u12 girls team travelled to Castleisland to play Desmonds in a Round 2 game of the North Kerry League.

Despite not playing to our full potential in the first half we led at half time on a 2-7 to 1-3 scoreline.

Desmonds started the second half in determined fashion and added six points without reply to leave just a point between the sides midway through the half. However our girls then upped a gear and struck for the extra scores which saw us run out winners on a 3-14 to 1-12 final score.

This result sets up a final round decider with Austin Stacks to see who will be crowned North Kerry Division 1 Champions for 2018.

U6s Training

Ballymac GAA club is so proud of our new u6 members who turn up every Sunday morning for training. In total, we have 25 new members who are so full of life and good humour. It is a pleasure to spend time with them every Sunday morning under our senior Trainer John Leen and his mentors.

John and his team have supplied each player with their own age-appropriate ball for every training session and all our U6s are making great strides in picking up new skills in a very friendly fun-oriented environment.

So far due to the weather, we are confined indoors to St Brendan’s Community center every Sunday morning from 11-12. We are expecting the sun to come out full time one of these days and we will all go down to the football pitch.

Watch out for updates on our web site: www.ballymacgaa.com

Under 8

Ballymac U8 Boys had a big turn out this Sunday morning . They did plenty of skills and games , boys who did well on the morning were  Cian Bolger, Aiden O Connor, Tighernach Mansfield , Kealan Burke and Finn Hannah.

Under 14

Our u 14s Travelled to Caherslee to play in The Feile qualifiers on Wednesday night last . Playing against Ardfert in the first game , we were slow to start & should have been leading at half time but instead found ourselves behind by a point . A brilliant goal from niall Collins mid way through the second period had us ahead by a point but a couple of late points from Ardfert sealed the win for them by 2 points .

Our second match was against Austin Stacks and what a game this one turned out to be .  Inspired by Donal Daly & Luke o Connell at midfield, we really put it up to the stacks & this team proved their worth  with a brilliant display .

A goal by stacks just before the interval seemed to put them in the Driving seat but Ballymac stuck to the task . James Kenny, mossie Brennan & Jamie sugrue were outstanding in defence , Skye Lynch scored a beautiful point to put us in with a great chance .

But when Maurice o Connell scored the equaliser and then when Donal Daly pointed the last free to put us ahead , it was no more than what the team deserved . Our last game was against moyvane, after 6 mins we were well in control and lead by 4 points . Moyvane scored a goal against the run of play to give them some hope but our boys were well able for the task !

Luke & Aidan Horgan were well in control in defence , Sean rice, niall Collins and Evan Boyle were playing well up front . A well taken penalty by Luke o Connell put us on the Road to victory.

Michael Culloty scored a beautiful point with his left leg , and when Maurice o Connell scored a fabulous point from 30 yards the game was well and truly over . Kieran Slattery was solid in goals , James Kenny can be proud of his display , Donal Daly & Luke o Connell were heroic in midfield.

Up front Maurice o Connell Sean rice niall Collins Evan Boyle & Diarmaid Galvin played some beautiful football and some of the scores were a joy to watch . Thanks to all players for a super effort , thanks to all parents who supported us on the night .

Thanks to coaches Roland Rogers ,Declan o Connell, John Rice & Eddie o Connell for having the players in superb form on the night . We play our semi final next Wednesday against either Glenflesk or Laune Rangers at a venue to be decided .

U12 County League

Our three teams played their first games in the county league. Sunday evening. Team 1 and 2 played away to Kilcummin while team 3 played Currow away

Team 1 Played their first game in Division 1A against Kilcummin. Kilcummin won the game 5-11 to 3-5. Every player played to their best and they will improve from the experience of playing in Division 1. Roll on next week and Dr.Crokes.

Team 2 played Kilcummin with only ten players but what a ten. Conal Savage and Jack Joy were outstanding in defence and midfield respectively leading by example and a credit to the club with the encouragement they gave to our four U10 players making the debut in U12 county.

All four U10 players, Sean Martin, Eoghan Joy, Paddy Lucid and Cian Gilroy showed no sign that this was their first game at this age group.

Sean Martin and Eoghan were a constant threat in the forwards and Cian and Paddy beat their men time and time again. Daniel Creagh, Donnacha Enright and Eoin Moriarty showed great heart on a wet night. Sam Slattery making his debut in goals made save after save but in what turned out to be a game either side could have won Kilcummin won on a scoreline of 3-5 to 2-5

Team 3

Ballymac’s mixture of 11s and 2 U10s played U12 Currow team under very soft conditions in Currow. Captain for match was Luke Silles. It’s was the host who got off to a flying start kicking some excellent points which seem to deflate our lads a little and we went in at half time down 2 02 to 2 09. A rejuvenated Ballymac team took to field in the 2nd half and outscored the opposition 6 pts to 4 pts but unfortunately we didn’t convert enough of our dominance into scores. Excellent second half performance that will greatly aid the Ballymac boys for rest of County League campaign. Many thanks to our 2 under 10s players Mike Quirke and Padraig Reidy who without we wouldn’t be in a position to field 3 teams. Final score Ballymac 2 08 Currow 2 13

U14B County

Our U14B team travelled to Dr.Crokes last Wednesday night to play in a ten goal thriller. In what turned out to be our best performance of the season so far we showed massive grit and determination to come from behind to draw the game 5-7 a piece. Thanks to all those who travelled to Killarney particularly the U12 players who made the step up to the big pitch with great ease. Our next game is in Ballymac on Thursday the 19th at 7pm
