The visitors responded within a minute when they returnedwith a well taken point to level the game for the first time . Currow edged ahead with 3 points without return until a free given to Ballymac well taken by Daragh O’Regan gave Ballymac their 2nd point to narrow the leaders gap. Both teams fought point for point for the remainder of this half and it was the visitors who were the leaders going into the half time break with a score 0-07 to 0-09.

U13 Boys

In the last competition for the U13s this year we travelled to Na Gaeil in Killeen to play in the Rose Cup. We played the hosts Na Gaeil, Ennis and St.Sennans in in our group games beating them all to top the group and advance to the Cup semi-final. We defeated Churchill 2-4 to 1-4 in a very competitive game resulting in us making the final. The final turned out to be a one sided affair with Aghabullogue from Co.Cork securing the crucial early few scores to run out comfortable winners. Congratulations to the lads for making the final. Thanks to John Slattery and the Town Board for running a fantastic tournament this year.

U14 Boys

The U14 boys play John Mitchels this Wednesday in Mitchels at 7pm in the second game of the Castleisland District competition.

U16 Boys

On Wednesday last ,  Ballymac u16’s played Fossa in Fitzgerald stadium in the division 4 county league final . When these teams met earlier in round 2  Ballymac emerged victorious on a scoreline of  Ballymacelligott  6.12 to Fossa 4.14  .

The game started at a blistering pacewith both teams giving their all.Fossa were physically much stronger than than the slightly built  Ballymac side , but as everyone knows  ‘ it is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog ‘. Ballymac showed this saying to be true. They, tackled ferociously and put Fossa on the back foot from the very beginning.

Ballymac were first to score with a point from their captain Daragh Broderick. This was cancelled out with a point from Fossa’s danger man , their full forward Emmett O Shea. Shortly after this Adam O Keeffe and Emmett o Shea exchanged points. Ballymac put two points between the sides with scores from Dylan Dunne Moriarty and Daragh Broderick.   However this lead was short lived when Emmett O Shea goaled twice  for Fossa. This was to test the Ballymac boys but they stood tall and were not found wanting. The comeback was started by Adam Sheehy when he dispossessed a Fossa back coming out with the ball. adam made no mistake and buried the ball in the Fossa net.  A couple of minutes later , great combination play by the Ballymac boys put Darragh Sweeney through on goals and he duly obliged. The hardworking Sean Horan added another 1.1 to Ballymac’s tally.

Four more pointa from the Ballymac boys through Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Darragh Broderick (2) and Adam O Keeffe left ballymac’s tally at 3.10 at half time.Fossa could only manage one more score  before half time to leave their score at 2.3

A heavy shower of rain early in the second half left underfoot conditions very slippery. Ballymac pushed on and a ball in from the very industrious Darragh Leen found Adam O Keeffe  who goaled for the second time. .

Emmett O Shea pointed a free for Fossa . Two minutes later a foul on a Fossa player resulted in a penalty which Emmett O Shea buried in Ballymac’s net. This left the score with 15 minutes gone in the second half at  Ballymac 4.10 to Fossa 3.4    Ruairi Doyle pointed for Fossa. This was cancelled out by Sean Horan when he pointed having collected a great pass from the impressive sub Denis Brosnan.

Fossa refused to give in and scored a point through their full back Pauraic Talbot. With five minutes to go one of Ballymac’s game changing subs Donal Daly found the net for Ballymac . This was to be Ballymac’s final score.  For the last few minutes Fossa threw everything at Ballymac and got a late consolation point and goal. The final score was Ballymac  5.11  to Fossa  4.7

This was a great victory for the Ballymac boys. Eoghan Kenny was outstanding in goals , making timely saves and finding team mates with his kickouts.  The six backs consisting of  Brian Cassidy, Ciaran Brosnan , James Bailey, Darragh Sweeney, AdamKelly and Jonathan Lowe gave an exhibition of defending.  They contested every ball and when the pressure came on their ‘never say die ‘ attitude carried them through.  Darragh Broderick ,the captain led by example and his work rate combined with scoring five points made his contribution invaluable.  Although named at centre field , Cian Godley played the sweeper role to great effect and reduced Emmett O Shea’s threat. This was crucial to Ballymac’s victory.

Ballymac’s half forward line of Darragh Leen, Dylan Dunne Moriarty and Adam Joy worked tirelessly. They must have covered every blade of grass in Fitzgeraldd Stadium and were the link between our backs and inside forward line.

The inside line of Adam Sheehy, Adam O Keeffe and Sean Horan showed continuously for ball at all times were up against much more physical opponents. They never flinched in their task and were involved in most of ballymac’s scores.

All subs introduced by Ballymac played a significant role in this victory, some scoring and others helping to create these scores.

This was a great victory for this team and great credit is due to their management team who put a lot of work into the team throughout the year. The management team consisted  of  Stephen O Brien , Michael Broderick, Martin Lowe and Liam Sweeney.

Under 14

Our U 14s travelled to Kerins o Rahilly s to play in the semi final of the Central Region . The locals got off to a good start and Dominated early proceedings. However some nice combined play put Ballymac on the ascendancy, the point scoring from Donal Daly from Distance with a slight wind advantage, was just a joy to watch . However Kerins o Rahilly’s went in at half time with a 4 point lead . Kerins o Rahilly’s started well in the second half and their physical presence was giving them an advantage down the middle , but fair play to ballymac , they never gave up and tried to the end . Best of luck to Kerins O Rahilly’s in the final . Highlights of the competition for us were two good results over Na Gaeil and Austin Stacks . Thanks to all parents for their support on the night .

Our U14s began the castleisland District league last Friday night in Ballymac with a win over currow . Currow started well and looked good in the early exchanges. Ballymac however settled & began to take the game to Currow .   A Goal each from Luke o Connell & Jamie Sugrue put us in the lead & this seem to settle the Team . Further Points from Donal Daly  & niall Collins had us going in with a 9 point lead at half time . Kieran Slattery was solid in Goals , Michael prendergast s  passing was a joy to watch , Evan Boyle tried so hard , Michael Culloty distributed ball with such precision , Padraig Heffernan won every ball that came his way & Raymond Lowe showed great bravery in winning ball that came down  his wing . Tommy palmer showed how versatile a player he is by playing in different positions . Diarmaid Galvin Eoin creedon & mossie Brennan were all solid in defence , Jamie Sugrue played well in midfield . In the foward s in the second half  Maurice o Connell scored some beautiful points and Sean rice with a cracking goal gave us a good cushion for the last ten minutes. Fair play to Currow for trying to the end and were rewarded with 2 goals & 3 points to leave the final score 4 13 to 3 13 in favour of Ballymac . Thanks to all parents for their support on the night . We play John Mitchell’s in the next Round on Friday night

U 16 Ladies Division 2 County League Semi-final.

Legion 2-06.  Ballymac 4-10

On a perfect evening for football, we travelled to Killarney Legion to take on the locals in what was expected to be a very difficult place to get a result, but our girls did not disappoint on the night. A great attitude and team performance got us over the line. Some great defending kept the girls in the game with our mid field and forwards giving all they had  also. Our subs also contributed very well on the night. The scoreline in fairness was on the generous side to Ballymac at the end, and doesn’t reflect how close the game was throughout. Goals at the right time swung the momentum in our favour to book a final place against Miltown/Listry.

Team ; Lorna Daly, Sinead McKeown, Roisin Long, Aoife Galvin, Cait Rice, Emily O Brien, Caoimhe Carroll, Aisling O Connell, Eve Creedon, Alyssa Leen, Cora Savage, Laura Dunne, Kate O Connor, Ellie Mac Elligott, Lisa Curran.

Subs; Ellie Sugrue, Mary Ann Fleming, Millie Dunne, Roisin Rahilly
