Third Round of The Junior Championship

Saturday 20th April

Ballymac V Na Gaeil

A sun drenched evening in Ballymac resulted in a classic game of championship football where Na Gaeil pipped Ballymac by three points in the end.

Na Gaeil opened the scoring with two early points before Ballymac levelled. Na Gaeil responded with two more points before Ballymac forced a turnover on a kickout to score an excellent goal. This was championship football at its best, both teams playing at full tilt with great intensity. Na Gaeil finished the half strongly to leave them two up at the break, 0-10 to 1-05.

Ballymac dominated the early moments of the second half but didn’t make it count on the scoreboard. Na Gaeil extended their lead to four points and Ballymac went down to 14 men following a second yellow card. It looked like the writing was on the wall but a heroic display and some excellent scores left the gap at the minimum. Forced to chase the game Ballymac were caught by three late points on the breakaway and Na Gaeil ultimately prevailed with Ballymac reduced to thirteen men.

The final score 0-18 to 1-12, a game for the ages.

Coiste na nÓg News:

Under 16s:
Our u 16s entertained Na Gaeil in Ballymac in Round 3 of the Central Region Division one  last Monday 15th April.

Our lads were first off the mark in a low scoring opening fifteen minutes , the points coming from Gary Lynch and a Donal Daly free .  But Na Gaeil rallied and hit the front after 18 minutes with a goal and 2 points .

Ballymac responded well with a well taken goal from Bryan Godley and a further Goal from a penalty by  Adam Joy,to put us ahead by 4 points at the interval, Ballymac 2 04 Na Gaeil 1 03 .

Further points from Donal Daly and Adam Joy and a sweet strike from Mark Brick to hit the back of the net had us in a good position with 17 mins to play . But fair play to Na Gaeil who didn’t give up and rallied again to hit 6 unanswered points to reduce the deficit to 3 points . In a frantic final  7 minutes , our boys stood firm and held out for a win on the final score line of 3 06 to 1 09 .
James Bailey was outstanding at full back , Adam Walker, Luke O’Connell and James Kenny did very  well in defence. Denis Brosnan worked tirelessly as did Adam Kelly and Darragh Sweeney at midfield . Up front Donal Daly & Adam Sheehy impressed . Thanks to all parents who supported us on the night and thanks to Na Gaeil for a fine sporting Game .

Busy week for our U14s

Our u14 Boys have had a busy past week, on Saturday 13th we hosted a Group of Féile which also included Churchill and Beaufort.

Our first game against Churchill saw us get off to a slow start which meant we were chasing the game, unfortunately time ran out on our comeback with Churchill running out two point winners.

Beaufort then defeated Churchill which meant we had to defeat the Mid Kerry side to stay in the competition.

This we duly did playing some excellent football. This result then necessitated a playoff which saw us pitted against Beaufort where we repeated our earlier victory which meant that a win over Churchill would see us qualify, unfortunately it being our third game in a row tiredness set in and it was the Churchill boys who progressed.

On Wednesday we resumed our County  League campaign with a trip to Killarney to take on Legion.

We laid the foundation for victory in the first half when we dominated play and at half time led on a 2-6 to 0-1 score line.

We continued our good form in the second period which saw us run out victorious.

Final score Ballymac  3-13 Legion 1-3.

The following evening the Gold team also made the trip to Legion and also came away with a victory making it two wins from two in their Division.

Well done also to Club players Michéal  Savage, Thomas Leen and Jack Slattery who were on the O’Brennan team which won the Cumann na mBunscoil Castleisland District Skills Competition held recently .Good luck to the lads in the forthcoming Co Final.
