Ballymac U8 Girls with U8 girls from Austin Stacks Club Tralee who visited Ballymac GAA  for fun games on Sunday last.

Round 6 of the Senior County League

A wet and windy evening in Kenmare resulted in a deserved win for the home side over a gallant Ballymac. Ballymac started poorly and before they knew it were 1-3 to no score down.

The home side, eager to make it 5 wins from 6 exploded from the blocks and some good passing with clinical shooting opened up the Ballymac defense.

Ballymac responded well and some magnificent long range points brought the game back to 3 points just before the half before Kenmare secured the last score to leave 4 between the teams, 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.

Ballymac immediately upped the tempo after the break and despite conceding the first point scored a goal to leave just 2 points between the teams.

However, that would be as good as it would get for the Ballymac men as Kenmare used all their experience to chip over 7 of the next 9 scores including an immediate reply with a goal to leave an insurmountable gap between the teams.

Ballymac, to their credit never gave up and scored a goal late in injury time to reduce it to a 2 score game. However, as they pushed forward to save the game they were caught on the break with Kenmare scoring a late goal to leave an 8 point gap between the teams, 3-13 to 2-8.

Our next Senior game is away to Castleisland Desmonds on the weekend of 30th June. Keep and eye on www.ballymacgaa.com for updates on fixtures and times.

Minor team News

Our Minor team will take part in the Division 3 Central Region  Minor League in Mid July. The games start on the 18th July and the other teams in the group are:  Ardfert, Annascaul/Lispole, and Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe.

Do you know?

Do you know that Ballymac GAA has two full pitches? We have a main pitch that hosts all games and the academy on Sunday morning and we have a training pitch that we use for teams to train on. This second  pitch was secured some years ago and each year the club repays a small loan that is almost repaid.

Each year we work very hard at keeping our pitches up to playing standard. This work involves actual physical work and fundraising.

Monies from our fundraising and membership goes towards the repayments of the loan as well as the maintenance of both pitches. Everyday cost such as ESB, dressing room repairs, gate and parking facilities,  grass cutting, spiking, sanding, hedge & tress  maintenance all cost money. We thank all our volunteers, fundraisers and supporters for all their help over the years that allows us to keep up this vital work. Ballymac Abú!

U14 Girls:

ISG 05-02 V Ballymac 09-10

Div. 5 Non County Players

On Monday evening, 10th June, Ballymac made the trip to Kilgarvan to take on ISG. After a delayed start to the game, Ballymac had a further delay in getting into the game and allowed ISG get an early 3 goal lead. However, a goal and a few points settled the nerves and eventually the scores started to rack up as Ballymac grew in confidence. The addition of Kerry to the defence was a big benefit and Gill brought a new energy to the attack.

Ballymac won on a score of 9 10 to 5 2 with Laura Sugrue, the star of the night, getting an amazing 08-06 of this tally and Allie getting the other goal.

Overall it was great to get a win after 3 losses.

Well done girls!

Castlegregory 03-05 V Ballymac 07-07

Div. 5 Non County Players

Two days after our win in Kilgarvan, Ballymac made the trip to Castlegregory with spirits high.

Again, we had a shaky start and fell behind to 3 early points but the defence led by Sarah Mason and Alexa ensured no goals were scored which was vital to keep us in the game at this stage. Eventually after a few missed scores we got 2 quick goals and from them there really was only one winner.

Charlotte (0 2) and Alice did well in midfield and again Gill on the 40 with 2 goals and Laura Sugrue with 4-04 led the scoring in attack.

Kerry (1 0) and Lauren (0 1) were the other scorers and even though Castlegregory managed a few well taken goals in the second half Ballymac were comfortable winners on a final score line of Castlegregory 3 5 Ballymac 7 7.

Well done girls on a very successful week.

U10 Girls:

Our u10 girls travelled to Ballyrickard on Sunday, 9th June, for the annual U10 North Kerry LGFA Blitz, The blitz was a great success and all games were played in a sporting, competitive manner with top quality refereeing. Credit goes to Kerins O’Rahillys, LGFA and the NK LGFA for organising and running such a brilliant event.

Our girls played Abbeydorney, Corca Dhuibne and Listowel and they gave a great account of themselves. We opted to have no player of the week this week as all participants received a lovely medal for competing in the Blitz.

On Sunday 16th our U10s welcome Austin Stacks to Ballymac at 11am.
