SENIORS
Our Senior team travelled to Beaufort on Saturday evening last and despite their best efforts came away empty handed. We started well and by the 8th minute held a 0 – 3 to 0 – 1 lead. Our scores coming courtesy of Daniel O Shea (0 – 2) and Aidan Breen (0 – 1) free. Then the homeside struck for a goal when one of their forwards kicked a loose ball into the Ballymac net. However by the 20th minute our lads had brought the scores level to 0 – 6 to 1 – 3 with Aidan Breen (0 – 2) and Padraig McCarthy (0 – 1) adding to our scoreline. In the last 10 minutes of the half the host added 1 – 3 to no reply to give them a 6 point halftime lead.

The second half saw both sides score 5 points each and although our lads tried their hardest to close the gap 4 points was the closest we came to Beaufort. The goal that we needed to put pressure on the hosts eluded us and they ran out deserving winners on a scoreline Beaufort 2 – 11 Ballymac 0 – 11. Ballymac scorers in the second half were Mossie Shanahan (0 – 2) and a point apiece from Aidan Breen (free) Padraig McCarthy (free) and Daniel O Shea.

Castleisland District League U14. Scart/Cordal 3-6 Ballymac 5-4

The match was played last Monday night in less than ideal conditions for the month of June. However the boys got there district league off to a winning start. Our play wasn’t great at times but the fitness levels of the boys has certainly improved following a few weeks of hard training. Aidan o Brien made some great forays forward from corner back and worked tirelessly throughout. He linked up play really well and picked off a lovely score on one of his bursts forward. Cian Godley also had a good night and gave some great ball into our forwards.

Half time Scart 2-3 Ballymac 3-2 Into the second half and we were playing with a strong breeze and we began to dominate possession. The introduction of Diarmuid Lynch opened up play and he drove forward time after time with huge purpose. Our opponents dropped a man back into the pocket to thwart our attacks. Dylan Dunne Moriarty scored a vital goal after moving to full forward and our defence stood firm against any threat the opposition threw at us. Dean Lenihan was another who showed great heart on the night and was first to the ball on many occasions. All in all it was a decent night’s return, but bigger challenges will lie ahead for the boys.

Best wishes to U14 player Brian Cassidy as he plays at half time in the Primary School game at the Kerry Vs Tipperary Munster Senior Championship game in Thurles on Sunday next.

FAOI 12

Ballymac v Castlegregory 28/5/15
The girls travelled to Castlegregory on a fine sunny Thursday evening and came away victorious by nine points, on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-3 in the second game in Division 2A of the county league. There was only three points between the teams until midway though the secondhalf when the girls kicked six points without reply from Cora Savage (3),Emily O Donoghue (2) and Catriona Sommers (1).Up until then the girls found it hard to get into their rhythm not helped by the locals only being able to field 12 players for the game. Roisin Long was outstanding in defence and Catriona in midfield finishing the game with 1-4 to her name. Great credit to the parents for having 24 players present for the game.Team; Grainne Galvin,Ellie Linehan, Roisin Long, Sophie O Donoghue,Ciara Palmer, Sinead Mc Keown, Cathy Palmer, Catriona Sommers, Emily O Donoghue,Kate O Connor , Cora Savage, Aylssa Leen, Laura Dunne, Aoife Galvin, Millie Dunne, Holly Geary,Emer Curran,Geraldine Cassidy,Bridget Sheehan,Jade Riordan,Ciara Sharp,Emma Leen,Laura O Shea,Katie Enright,Aideen Lynch.

Ballymac v Legion 2/6/15
The third round of Div 2A of the county league took place in Legion on Tuesday last and the girls fought to the final whistle, to earn a draw, when it didn’t look likely heading into the last ten minutes. The girls didn’t play particularly well on the night conceding three goals, and not bringing their shooting boots from play. The switch of Cora Savage from centre forward to the full forward line caused the home side lots of problems with her finishing the game with eight points out of our total of ten. Our six backs played very well on the night and definitely kept us in the game.Yvonne Hurley and Roisin Rahilly when introduced tried hardest in the forwards. We now lie in second place in the league table on 7 points with our second last game of the league at home to Scartaglen on Thursday 11th June at home. Team; Grainne Galvin, Ellie Linehan, Roisin Long, Sophie O Donoghue, Ciara Palmer, Sinead Mc Keown, Cathy Palmer, Catriona Sommers, Emily O Donoghue, Aoife Galvin, Cora Savage, Aylssa Leen, Emer Curran, Yvonne Hurley , Millie Dunne. Aideen Lynch ,Bridget Sheehan , Roisin Rahilly , Geraldine Cassidy, Lorna Daly.

We would like to wish Cora Savage the best of luck in Semple Stadium on Sunday next when she plays in the primary game at half time in the Kerry v Tipp senior munster championship game. Great to have a representative of the team and the club selected to play. Hopefully she is the first of many in the years ahead.
