Junior Team:

On Tuesday last Ballymac Juniors played Churchill in the Tralee District/St. Brendan’s Board Junior final. This game was played in Ballymac.

Churchill dominated the first quarter and led at the water break on a scoreline of Churchill 1-04 to Ballyamc 0-02. After the break , Ballymac settled and cut the deficit to 1 point with a goal from Sean Horan and a point from a free from Gene Griffin. Churchill responded with 2 more points . Ballymac got the last score of the first half with a point from a free from Gene Griffin. This left the scoreline at half time at Ballymac 1-04 Churchill 1-06

Shortly after the restart Ballymac levelled matters with points from Gene Griffin and Christy Leen. Churchill dug deep and goaled shortly after. However, Ballymac were not giving up and points from Kevin Sweeney and Michael Herlihy reduced the difference to 1 point. Churchill pushed ahead again with 2 more points but a goal from Sean Horan put the sides level at the water break on a scoreline of 2-08 a piece.

After the restart both sides scored 2 points each , Ballymac’s points coming from Adam Kelly and Sean Horan. Churchill dominated the last five minutes scoring 1-01. Ballymac got the last score of the game with a point from Frank Rahilly. The final score was Ballymac 2-11 Churchill 3-11

U11 Boys

The First round, phase 2 of the County Go Games saw Ballymac away to Spa Killarney.

From the throw in  the Ballymac midfield pairing of Gearoid O Connor  and Adrian O Connor dominated proceedings leading to early goals from Patrick Leen and Ciaran Brosnan. Points from Tadgh O Connor  and Adrian o Connor saw us into half time with a comfortable lead despite conceding goals to the Spa side.

The second half saw changes in the ballymac side with Gearoid O Connor moving to wing back and Gearoid Joy moving to midfield. Again Ballymac dominated the early exchanges only for the Spa side to begin several attacks and take control of the game. But for stout defending from Diarmuid Scanlon, Harvey Leen, and excellent saves from goalkeeper Jack Lynch the Ballymac side would have been in trouble.

Further attacks from Gearoid Joy, Evan Horgan and Eric Quirk stemmed the tide and

Great credit to both teams for a great game played in intense 30degree heat, well done all.

Community Games U1O Football

The Community Games Ballymac u10 team   played Firies on Sunday last.It was a most exciting game with a late Ballymac comeback almost snatching victory.Well done to the Boys and their coaches on a great display.

U15 County League Finals

This quote came to mind this week as our U15s suffered two loses in County Finals over two days “It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly…who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who have never known neither victory nor defeat.”

It was so brave of some of our players who suffered the loss on Wednesday night to dust themselves off and play their hearts out on Thursday night again and suffer a loss of one point. It was so disappointing, yet all those young players all stood together and walked to the presentation area and congratulated their opponents on their wins. It is not easy to lose games and it hurts. All the U15 players made our club proud and their dignity in defeat is a credit to themselves, their coaches and families. Beidh lá éile agaibh.

Hard work and commitment has been put in by our Coiste na nÓg over the past ten years. Exactly ten years ago we had to join Churchill at minor level to field a team and our U14s fielded one team including two ladies on the starting 15. Now we have two U15 Boys teams playing in competition and an U14 Girls team. It’s great to have two teams at any age group and see all the players getting games. Credit to everyone involved.

U15 Ballymac Blue team V Tarbert

Our U15 team travelled to Finuge for the Div 4 Final V Tarbert. From the start Tarbert were dominant and despite our backs and goalie working hard Tarbert were well up at half time.

Ballymac started the second half the brighter and has some good scoring chances. However, Tarbert pushed on after the water break and notched up a good few point to win the game. Ballymac never gave up and tried hard to the finish. They played with heart and dignity and were very disappointed at the end.

U15 Gold Team V Keel /Listry

Having won the toss for home venue our U15 Gold team played Keel/Listry at home on Thursday night.
The game started with a cracking goal from Alex Riordan and he followed with a second one immediately after the first water break. Our forwards were creating some good scoring chances.  Mairtin McKivergen and Matthew Rogers were flying in the forwards. Everyone was working hard and we were 2-06 to 1-05 up at half time.

The second half saw Keel/Listry really push on and they scored four points to our 1 before the water break. The last quarter was end to end stuff and with seven minutes left, Keel/Listry got a goal from a penalty and pointed immediately afterwards. In the last few minutes Ballymac were awarded a penalty and Martin struck the back of the net. This left the minimum of a point between the teams. However,in the last play we were unlucky not to score, but great credit to the players for a massive effort and the game ended with us losing by a point: Ballymac Gold 3-08 to Keel /Listry 2-12.
Disappointment was etched on the faces of our lads at the final whistle and  they can all still hold their heads up high as they played with passion and did their best.

Many Thanks to everyone who turned up and supported us over the two nights. It was wonderful to see such great support from parents and supporters.

U17 Team

Our U17 s play Annascaul / Dingle/Lispole in the semi final of the central region sponsored by Kelliher s Toyota Tralee .
This game takes place at 7:30 in Ballymac , all support would be greatly appreciated.

U7 Academy

Another glorious Sunday morning was spent with our academy players and four coaches. The kids arrived ready for the sunny conditions (thank you Grown Ups) and had such fun playing games and practicing their football skills together. Their enthusiasm for target practice using the goals hasn’t waned in the last few weeks but their aims are greatly improving, well done everyone. It’s also great to see how much improvement the youngest players have made at listening and following instructions and now easily following three or four phase drills. The coaches are so proud of how far our youngest players have come. And we can’t forget our more senior academy players who each week get more comfortable on the ball, as well as playing together in teams. We look forward to seeing you all again next Sunday.

Ballymacelligott LGFA launches a unique fundraiser

Ballymacelligott LGFA launches a unique fundraiser to raise funds for next-level training equipment for our high-performance Senior Ladies Team. This season we became only the second club in Kerry to have a second senior team.

 

The Ballymac Ladies are in the semi-final of the Donal Curtain Cup with a good run expected in our County Championship.

 

To help support our ladies in the journey we have a Kerry Jersey signed by our Club man and Ballymac native Patrick O’Shea and his current senior football grandsons Paul O’Shea, David, and Paudie Clifford. He is also a very proud grandfather of his three grandchildren who play for Ballymac Shane, Cian, and Aoife Gilroy.

Senior Ladies

Division 4 Donal Curtin Cup

Monday 19th July 2021

Ballymac 2-12   Rathmore B 0-04

Played under beautiful sunshine at home in Ballymac. The evening was perfect for our fast flowing style of football. Even down a few players we hit out rhythm straight away with wonderful scores coming from Ellie McElligott and Emma Sweeney. Our forwards and midfielders could play attacking football with the knowledge that our backline of Grainne Galvin, who is having a wonderful season so far, along with our solid full back Roisin Long gives the team great confidence to move and be safe with these girls minding the house. When our defense was cracked we could rely on Robyn White in goals to steady us.

The second half saw us change a few things and give the likes of Chloe Gleeson and Rachel Godley well deserved game time and they really added to the team performance. In the end we ran out comfortable winners. It was great to see such a big crowd again.

 

Minor Ladies

County League Division 2 Round 2 & 3

Two Games over the last two Fridays at home and two Games that were so different. In the Cromane game we never really got to the level of performance that we can achieve, it was a game of could have, should have won…despite playing way below ourselves we were still only 3 points off Cromane at the end of the third quarter,  however Cromane pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 3-16 to 4-4.

On 23rd July, with a severely depleted side, that only had 4 minors present, a team of young ladies took to the field to face the Powerhouse team from South East Kerry ISG. Despite the huge disparity in ages which handsomely favoured our visitors ISG, not an inch did our ladies give. We raced into a 0-04 to 0-01 lead and even at the end of the first quarter we were still ahead 0-04 to 0-02. However that was the best that we were, as ISG with their two Kerry minors leading the way caught us cold with a trio of goals in quick succession that really put it up to our girls. But our ladies did not wilt and put a massive effort into the rest of the game, never giving up. At the end all the ladies were exhausted as they had given everything, such was our tenacious in our work rate that ISG struggled to cope with us continually fouling us and having two of their players sin binned, with one more removed as she was heading to the same place. Well done to all the girls from both the squads as the clubs future is safe in your hands.
