Under 17s

Our u17 minors enjoyed a special opening game against Listowel Emmetts in the first round of the county league. We travelled to Ballylongford for this encounter last Saturday.

An early goal from a free taken from outside the D by Niall Collins settled our players who gave a great display of defending and point taking in the first half. Luke Griffin was a revelation between the uprights and pulled off some great saves and was effective with his kick outs. Listowel scored a goal against the run of play on the stroke of half time to leave Ballymac one point ahead at the break. The momentum and breeze lay with Listowel early in the second half and they pulled ahead by 4 points. Ballymac regrouped and battled manfully later in this half. Jack Slattery slotted home a penalty and well taken points by Sean Rice and Niall Collins saw our team grasp victory on a score line of 2-10 to 2-8

Our backs Michael Culloty, Aidan Horgan, William ODonoghue, Tom Long, Diarmuid Galvin and Luke Horgan were kept busy throughout the game and did an excellent job. Diarmuid Galvin deserves a special mention for his fielding and tackling.  Sean Rice and Shane Gilroy were outstanding at midfield and were effective in transitioning the ball from our backs to our forwards throughout the game. Our forwards Jack Slattery, Niall Collins, Jamie Burke, Micheál Savage, Sky Lynch and Evan O’Brien, all acquitted themselves well. Again, special mention has to be given to Niall Collins who’s display of football and determination was becoming of his county minor status. We are grateful to Mairtín McGivern and Luke Silles who joined our ranks from the u15 panel and acquitted themselves well. Mark Chawkie O’Connor played in the backs in the second half and proved a worthy warrior when the Listowel pressure was piled on us
