Club Senior Team

Our Ballymac Senior Men had their second game in the County League Division 1 against Gneeveguilla away in Gneeveguilla on Saturday, 4th of April.

It was a fresh, fine evening with an isolated shower.

Ballymac started the better side and got an early lead. Half-time score was Gneeveguilla 1-6 Ballymac 2-6.

Gneeveguilla struck early in the second half with a goal to level the contest.

It was an arm wrestle between both teams, both demonstrating great levels of tenacity & fitness levels.

Gneeveguilla were the eventual victors

Gneeveguilla 2-9 Ballymac 2-7

Up next for our Seniors is Kenmare at home in Ballymac next weekend. All support for the team and management welcomed.

U 15 County League Division 1B

On Wednesday night last, our under 15 boys commenced their county league competition at home to Firies. After preparing very well for the last seven weeks they hit the ground running up a score-line of 4-08 to 0-02 by halftime. Firies battled hard throughout the second half but our lads won out comfortably in the end. A great start to the league but no doubt stiffer tests lie ahead. Next game is away to Kenmare on Wednesday next.

Great to see Conal Savage back on the pitch for a brief appearance after his injury.

Team. Cian Harris, Cian Gilroy, Micheal O Connor, Matthew Rodgers, Eoghan Joy, Stephen Turner, Sam Slattery, Eoin Moriarty, Jack Joy(c), Ciaran O Connell, Luke Silles, Michael Quirke, Padraig Reidy, Gearoid Healy, Maurice Harrington.

Subs; Luke Griffin, Des Martin, Jamie Tarrant, Shane Brosnan, John Leen, Conal Savage.

Russell Cup Final

Well done to Ciaran O’Connell, Padraig Reidy and Gearoid Healy on helping St. Pats Castleisland win the Russell Cup for the first time since 1991,

It was a great achievement by our under 15 squad to have 9 players in the final representing The Green and St. Pats

Under 13s

Our U13 boys travelled to Na Gael in a damp Tralee this evening for round 2 of the County League. Our gold boys were up first against a physically bigger na Gael side and they played their hearts out all the way to the final whistle. Na Gael were much too strong overall and won out on a score line of 3-17 to 3-00. All the boys put in a great effort and can hold their heads high after this performance.

Great performances by Geariod McElligott, Darragh Lyons and Tadhg o Connor.

Our blue team played their best football of the year so far tonight against a very strong Na Gael team. Some fantastic running football and great scores by Jack Collins and Adrian o Connor kept us within 2 pints of the hosts at half time. There were some terrific battles in the centre of the field with Daragh McMahon and Jackson Brosnan flat out trying to keep the Na Gael dangermen in check.

Jack Lynch in goals played a great game and despite a late goal by Conor McCarthy Na Gael ran out the winners 5-14 to 3-09.

Overall, the lads played very well as a team and can be proud of themselves.

Under 10s

U10

On Thursday last evening U10 boys played their second Go Game away to John Mitchel’s. It was a very competitive game and Mitchel’s played with the wind in the first half. Our backs were under pressure but held their own. Michael Scanlon and Jake Sugrue were outstanding at the back in the first half of the game. Daithí O’Connor, Dara Leen and Conor Mangan kept things ticking over on the scoreboard.

In the second half of the game, we kept the ball in Mitchel’s half and piled the pressure on them.  Dylan Scanlon and Jack Stack never gave up and have shown immense improvement. Thanks to Gearóid Jones (in goals), Mikey Brosnan who played both corner back and corner forward and Conor Mangan (wing forward) for coming up from U9 to help us out.

There was a great presence of teamwork on the night. Well done lads!

Thanks to the referees and John Mitchel’s coaches for a sporting game.

Academy

“Another beautiful Sunday morning well spent with our Academy kids. The field was alive with friends old and new learning and honing skills, on and off the ball. Among our new faces this week were recent arrivals to the area. We were delighted to welcome back some Ukrainian children who enjoyed a taster session with us two weeks ago. Ласкаво просимо до Ballymac.

Our U5 squad numbered 40 children this week, the largest number so far this season. Together we practiced passing and catching the ball, scoring goals and improving fundamental movement skills with an agility course and cone work. Looking forward to welcoming you all back next week.”

Under 16

On Thursday evening our under 16 ladies for 2022 had their first outing, away to Cromane. We were missing three players and with such a tight squad we were going to be under pressure. This was a 13v 13 game. The first half we could see the lack of match practise and the game was put out of our reach.

The second half though we started to get our combinations right and we were able to control the game. Cromane still ran out winners thanks to such a strong first half performance.

Ballymac squad on the night was, Aoibhinn Broderick, Deborah O’Connor, Rose Brosnan, Anna Collins, Emma Daly, Alice Brosnan, Laura Kelly, Jill Quirke, Sarah Scanlon, Katie Landers, Kate Collins, Niamh Rice, Orla O’Connor and Sarah O’Rourke. Thanks to the coaches Mike Broderick, Don Brosnan, Una Kerins, Anthony Griffin and Donal Rahilly for all the work put in so far this year.
