Ladies News

Senior Ladies

Our Senior Ladies had no game over the last week, as they recovered from Donal Curtin Cup Final. They do have a Challenge game at home to Kilcummin on Monday 15th August at 7pm, in preparation for the start of the Club Championship on Monday August 22nd at home to John Mitchels.

Minor Ladies

On a hot summer evening last Tuesday, at St. Mary’s pitch in Cahersiveen we witnessed a match for the ages. Our Minor Ladies faced the mighty Southern Gaels in the County League Division 1 Semi Final.

What a game this turned out to be, at U16 level there was a 12point difference at this same stage and in our earlier round robin game, with a seriously depleted team there was a 14-point difference…. but that was then…this is now.

Our ladies got hit with an ominous opening salvo of 2-1 in the opening 4 minutes, including a goal straight from throw in.

However, what a next 5 minutes from the Ballymac ladies, as we hit back with 2-2 to their 1 point, as Roisin Rahilly hit 1-1, with Laura Sugrue adding a point and a goal from Keelin Enright.  SG struck for a point on the stroke of the first half water break, leaving us 2-3 to 2-2 down.

On resumption Roisin scored from a free to tie up the game, however SG put over another point to move back out in front. Then Rachel Creedon knocked over the equalising point, when Laura Sugrue struck for a goal putting us 3-4 to 2-4 ahead.

SG then scored the next three points, despite a fantastic defensive performance by our backline, leaving us all square at half time, some turnaround after we being 7 points down.

This time Ballymac started the second half the strongest, with Roisin putting away her second goal, after a great run and our forwards making great space for Roisin to run into. We held this three-point lead for most of the second half with further points from Roisin (3), Jamie Lee O’Connor and Laura Sugrue.

With 10 minutes to go, we unfairly lost Rachel Creedon to a yellow card, highlighting a fairly biased refereeing performance that our Ladies were also having to deal with.

Our young ladies put up a brave defence and still held a 3-point advantage with 4 minutes of injury time gone, when SG were awarded a 14-yard free, just to the left of our goal. Despite a plethora of players on the goal line, SG found the back of the net. The final whistle went and heartbreak for our ladies, extra time loomed.

We started the extra time with pointed free from Roisin, but then got hit with another SG goal. We put over another point to leave the score at Half Time of extra time 4-11 to 4-10 in favour of SG. With great courage our ladies stepped up yet again, Kate Collins first and Roisin from another free put us ahead by a point.

Then the referee did not give a free for what we thought was a blatant foul on a Ballymac player and allowed a throw ball as SG hit us with the sucker punch of a goal. We attacked hard in the remaining 3 minutes but conceded another point, leaving 3 between us 5-12 to 4-13 and there was no injury time allowed.

This was a fantastic, brave and courageous performance by our ladies and we are so proud of them. Squad is as follows, Kerry Hennessy, Alice Brosnan, Grainne Galvin, Ciara Kerins, Shonagh Griffin, Rachel Griffin, Anna Collins, Keelin Enright, Roisin Rahilly, Rachel Creedon, Kate Collins, Orla O’Connor, Jill Quirke, Laura Sugrue, Ella Quirke, Sarah Scanlon, Jamie Lee O’Connor, Aoibhinn Broderick, Clodagh Coffey, Debra O’Connor, Sarah O’Rourke with Laura Kelly and Emma Daly unavailable.

U14 Ladies

On Friday night our U14 Ladies played neighbours John Mitchels in their first round of the North Kerry League. Here we turned the tables against a very strong side who had beaten us in our last game of the County League. Winning in a score line of 3-7 to 2-5.

Underage County Championships.

This week sees the return of the U13/15/17 County Championship, which is straight knockout. First up in action is our U13 Ladies versus Beale at home on Monday, before the Senior Ladies challenge versus Kilcummin. This game throws in at 17.45. A great night’s entertainment on our main pitch.

The U15’s also have a home draw versus Kilcummin, on Wednesday evening at 7pm, all Support for these games would be greatly appreciated.

The U17 side will have to do it the hard way, if they are to be successful, having drawn ISG away. This game will be played on Thursday night, if we happen to win here, we will again be away to the winners of Cromane/Scartaglin in the Semi Final.

Academy

Another bright and early start for our U5’s this morning to escape the heat of the day. We were delighted to have a visiting player from Canada, an honorary coach, and a birthday girl in our squad this week.

Our focus was on agility, possession and accuracy, and putting it all together into a mini match for the more experienced kids and some fun drills for our novices. The confidence and skills of our youngest players is coming on week by week.

U9s

u 9s continued training at the earlier time of 10-11 at the main pitch this morning.

Main emphasis of this morning session was kick passing, Hand passing, point scoring and picking up the Ball properly.

We play Dr Crokes and Spa in the near future in our u 9 Go Games.

We urge all players to continue practicing their skills at home in their spare time.

Looking forward to seeing all players again next Sunday.

Under 11

Under 11

On Monday evening u11 boys and coaches presented Seán Kelly with a signed top and ball as a memento of his time in Ballymac GAA club. Seán and his family are moving to Spain and he will be greatly missed. A super sportsman, Seán assured us he will keep up the skills learned and hopes to continue playing Gaelic football when he heads off to the sunnier climate …our loss is someone else’s gain.

Ballymac U11 Boys played Kerins O Rahillys on Thursday 11th August.

It was a stunning evening in Ballymac and many of the boys were dead tired from Cúl camp that day but still managed to put on an impressive display.

Our gold team were on fire despite the hot evening. Thanks to KOR for travelling out.

Thanks to our own to referees Maurice O’Connell and Niall Collins for refereeing the two games also.
