Keel GAA v Ballymac GAA

On Saturday evening, in mostly dry & overcast conditions, our Senior Men’s team faced Keel GAA in Round 3 of the Junior Premier Championship in Keel GAA grounds.

In a cagey opening period – Keel GAA showed great tenacity and hunger but also reflected this on the scoreboard with Keel GAA leading at the break 0-9 to 0-6.

However, it was Ballymac who started the second period the stronger and had 4 unanswered points to take a one-point lead. It was a nip and tuck battle throughout and with a few minutes remaining in normal time, Keel scored a goal to ensure there was more to come in this nailbiter of a championship encounter.

However, it was Ballymac GAA who showed the character to pull out the win in the finish on the road, with a score line of Keel 1-11 v Ballymac 0-16.

This now sets us up a home Quarter Final next Saturday 27th at 6pm against St Senans.

This is a big game for the team and management so please try to come out and support them.

Ladies News

Senior Ladies

This Monday night 22nd August, we begin our first year in Junior B Championship with a home game v our neighbours John Mitchels. Throw in at 7.30pm. All Support is Welcome.

U17 County Championship Quarter Final Division A

With a much-depleted squad our U17’s travelled to Kenmare with just 16 players, but what a performance that the girls put on from No.1 to No.16, winning 5-13 to 2-8. Keeping up the good form from the Minor County Semi Final, our young ladies had put the game out of ISG’s range by half time leading by 3-7 to 1-2, with the ISG goal coming right on the stroke of halftime. Indeed, ISG did not score a point from play until the 45th minute.

We now move onto the County Semi Final and up a level to play the winners of Cromane or Scart away from home.

Squad as follows, Kerry Hennessy, Alice Brosnan, Anna Collins, Ciara Kerins (Captain), Clodagh Coffey, Rachel Griffin, Sarah Scanlon, Keelin Enright (2-1), Roisin Rahilly (0-4), Rachel Creedon (1-3), Kate Collins (1-1), Ella Quirke (0-2), Jill Quirke, Laura Sugrue (1-1), Rose Brosnan and Sarah O’Rourke.

U15 County Championship Quarter Final Division C

On a wet Wednesday evening an under strength Ballymac Ladies U15 side took on a very dangerous Kilcummin side in the Quarter Final of their U15 County Championship. In a ding dong battle for Supremacy that went right down to the final whistle, all our young ladies were outstanding. At half time we led by 4-2 to 2-1, but by full time there was just two points in it…7-4 to 6-5. Congratulations to both Fiona McCarthy and Jill Quirke on their hat-tricks.

Squad is as follows Sarah O’Rourke, Molly O’Connor, Laura West, Rose Brosnan, Abigail Geary, Maire Culloty, Sorcha Healy, Anna Collins (1-0), Katie Turner, Emma Daly, Michelle O’Connor (0-1), Emily Heffernan (0-1), Katie Landers, Jill Quirke (3-2), Fiona McCarthy (3-0), Sinead Scanlon, Olivia Sheahan.

We now move on to play the winners of Beaufort v Listowel Emmets in the Semi Final at home in Ballymac. Semi-final v Beaufort fixed for this Tuesday 6.30 throw in at home

U13 County Championship Division D Quarter Final.

On Friday night in very testing conditions at home in Ballymac, our U13 Ladies took on a very determined Beale side. For much of this game, it was a see-saw battle, however Ballymac Ladies kept their heads in front.

This was largely from two very early goals. At halftime the score was 3-2 to 2-2. For the next 15 minutes there was only a point or two in the game, but the final quarter belonged to us, as we strode clear to win by 5-10 to 4-4. We now move onto a County Semi Final versus Spa at home in Killarney, possibly at 6.30pm on Sunday 21st.

Squad is as follows, Grace Kelly, Natalie Turner, Kate O’Neill, Alice Savage, Sinead Scanlon, Sorcha Healy, Aedin Healy, Emily Heffernan (1-1), Katie Turner (1-3), Meabh O’Connell, Michelle O’Connor (1-3), Molly O’Connor (0-3), Eabha Jones, Fiona McCarthy (2-0) Tara Slattery, Cait Griffin and Aoibhinn Sheahan.

U14 County League Division 4 B Final

This Final is due to take place on Thursday Evening 25th August with venue and time to be confirmed.

Academy

Our U5 academy training session was well attended this week with 15 players ready and rearing for fun. In this week’s session we increased our focus on hand passing and pickups in drills and on our mini matches, and had a bit of fun playing rollerball and seeing how many silly ways we can flick up bibs off the ground.

We welcomed a new player to our squad who did brilliantly joining in all our games, well done Elizabeth! New players always welcome.

Under 9s

Our u 9 s continued training this morning at the main pitch between 11-12.

We had a good turnout as usual under glorious sunshine.

Kick passing, Hand passing and shooting for scores were the skills that were concentrated on this morning.

We play in a Go Game Blitz on Friday night next in Churchill, so we hope all players make a special effort to be there.

We advise all our players to continue practicing at home.

Under 11 boys.

Under 11

U11 Boys played Ardfert on Thursday 18th August. It was a fairly evenly matched game. We had some u9 players to help out.

On Saturday 20th August 14 boys togged out for the Jerry Foley U11 blitz over in Farranfore. The boys played brilliantly and got through to the semi-final. They were very unlucky not to get to the final but it was a great experience and they put in a huge effort and the coaches are very proud.

We have no game next week and the Milltown blitz has been rescheduled to Sunday Sept 5th. Ballymac Abú!

Under 13s

Our U13 boys travelled all the way to Tralee on Saturday to complete in this year’s Rose Cup. Featuring the best U13 boys’ teams in the county and teams from Cork and Limerick all was set for a cracker of a tournament.

First up we faced Austin Stacks and our boys put in a great display of team football to take the points with a comfortable win.

In round 2 we were up against Ardfert who started well and built up a commanding lead which we could not claw back before the final whistle.

In round 3 it was all to play for against Fr Casey’s of Abbeyfeale with a place in the shield semi-final up for grabs. Our boys played well and with the breeze and went into the break 3 points up. Fr Casey’s piled on the pressure in the second half but our lads held firm. A late goal from the limerick side saw them take the win and progress to the next round.

It was a great day of football and the lads did the club proud.

We continue to encourage all club members to say ‘No to Single Use Plastic’. Thanks to Dave Long who installed an outside drinking tap (dressing room wall) to facilitate this initiative.
