Ballymac 2 – 11    Skellig Rangers 2 – 10

Ballymac gained 2 valuable Co. League points with a hard earned victory over Skellig Rangers in their Co. League played in ideal conditions in Ballymac on Saturday evening last.

It was the away side who made the better start with a goal in the second minute and by the 15th minute led on a scoreline of 1 – 3 to 0 – 3. Ballymac scorers were Vincent Horan, Mossie Shanahan and Aidan Breen (free).

The South Kerry side further extended their lead with a goal in the 20th minute but Ballymac hit back with a goal of their own when Daniel O Shea fisted a Christy Leen delivery to the net.  We could have added to our goal tally in this half but for 2 brilliant saves by the Skellig goal keeper.  Half time score Skellig Rangers 2 – 6  Ballymac 1 – 7.
The away side further extended their lead at the start of the 2nd half but two excellent points from the boot of Christy Leen from frees kept Ballymac in touch.  Padraig McCarthy was at the end of an excellent passing movement to finish the ball to the net and bring the game level on the 40th minute.  The same player put Ballymac ahead with a point but Skellig Rangers came back to level.

The loss of influencial mid fielder Mossie Shanahan to a black card was a blow to the home side but Padraig McCarthy crowned a superb individual performance with the winning point in the 57th minute.  The Ballymac defence came under immense pressure in the final minutes but held firm to ensure a Ballymac victory on the night.

Ballymac U16 Team and Mentors Division 3 Co League winners following their victory over Listowel Emmets.

BALLYMAC 5-8  LISTOWEL EMMETS 2-7

An extraordinary second half performance and plenty vocal support were the main factors in winning this county league trophy in brilliant sunshine at Connolly Park.

After a difficult first half the boys gave one of their best performances in some time to win comfortably in the end.Ml Hoare got our first point quickly followed by a Dara Reagan point after a fine run by Keelan.  Listowel got 3 points in succession and Liam O Malley pointed for us after a good passing movement. Two Listowel goals in a few minutes had us 6 points adrift and with little going right for us.

Dara Reagan pointed from a free after Dara Keane was fouled.  Ml Hoare and Dara Reagan (F) pointed for us with Listowel also getting two points. After a  fine run by M Hoare the his shot seemed to be going wide but was rescued by Dara Reagan who came in along the endline and finished to the net, a really vital score.

LIstowel again pointed but despite not playing well we were only 3 points ( 2-6 to 1-6) behind at half time.

Numerous switches and changes were made by Ballymac at the break which paid dividens as the game went on. We started the half with more purpose but scores were hard to come by.

With ten minutes gone Eoin O Malley put brother Liam through for a fine goal the captain delivering when it was most needed Listowel replied with a point, incredibly their only score of the half .

Josh, Chris Lowe, Eddie and D Keane were tackling very hard now and forcing our opponents into long range shooting. Cillian Gallagher won possession passed to the tireless Ml Hoare who made for goal and laid off to Dara Reagan whose shot came off the crossbar to the waiting David Rodgers.

He was immediatedly fouled with Keelan converting the resultant penalty on the few occasions Listowel got close Ross, Cathal and Brian in goals were well capable of dealing with them while Tadhg Brick made some timely interceptions.

A monster point by Keelan from out on the sideline had our supporters in full voice. With 20 minutes gone Keelan was again on hand to flick a Dara Reagan free to the net leaving no way back for listowel.

Eddie Rodgers got our final point and soon afterwards the ref blew full time much to the delight of Ballymac players, mentors, and a large crowd of supporters. Reggie Griffin presented the winning trophy to a delighted captain Liam O Malley who thanked the mentors for their work throughout the year.

Well done and congratulations to the mentors Gene O Keeffe, Tony Silles, John Creagh, Willie Costelloe and Martin Lowe who had them in fine fettle on the night

FAOI 14

Our U14’s played their last game of their year on Sunday evening last. We played in Scartaglin before some good support and ideal conditions. As with previous games it took our lads some time to get to the tempo of the game. We pressed hard and should have registered more on the scoreboard but for some wayward shooting.

Our half forward line were unable to find their inside men and this was an area that required some adjustment along with midfield where we were having difficulty getting onto ball.

Half- time Scart /Cordal 2-2. Ballymac 0-6. A good talking to at half-time and with their season on the line the boys duly responded. We had to endure going a further 2 points down before our lads kicked into gear. David at full back and Dylan at midfield turned the tide.  Our backs tightened up, our midfield pressed and our forwards were flowing with good moves.

This was all paying dividends and in the space of 15mins we had put 2-5 up on the scoreboard. Scart responded and drove forward for the goal that would get them back into the game their but their closest effort was cleared off the line by Ciaran.

Darragh Leen was a menace in the full forward line and he made it very difficult on the Scart rear guard. With time running out we kicked on with Darragh Lynch being introduced and he won a great throw up ball.

The final whistle blew to great jubilation. Diarmuid Lynch captain on the evening accepted the winner’s trophy on behalf of his team. A well deserved victory for the boys and recognition for their perseverance in a tough year of results.
