Senior Development League: Division 2. Round 1

Dingle 1-07

Ballymac 0-07

Our Development squad travelled to Dingle on Sunday 26th March to play the home side in the first game of the Development League for 2023.

To paraphrase the Dingle PRO “It was a fine day for football”

Last year this Development League was a wonderful competition to bring on our young players and give them games. This year we hope it works as well. The young players learning and playing with their more experienced club mates.

The game was 13 a side. Eoin Culloty donned the number 1 Jersey and he did very well for his first time in goal.

Michael Herlihy, Josh O’Keeffe and Niall Collins worked hard with Niall scoring 5 of our points.

Our side missed six clear goal chances that on another day would have resulted in a score.

It was a great gritty team performance from our lads. A lot of things did not go our way and on the other hand the determination and never say die attitude of all the team was commendable and will stand to all of them going forward.

Next week we have County League against Kerins O’Rahillys and we wish the senior team every success. Keep an eye on social media for time and venue.

Senior Ladies

Our Senior ladies kickstarted their 2023 season today with a challenge match against John Mitchels, it gave both team the chance to blow away the cobwebs.

Minors

Ballymacelligott GAA v Glenbeigh/Glencar GAA– Minor County League Div 2A– Round 4

Ballymacelligott GAA 4-10

Glenbeigh/Glencar GAA 1-12

Our Minor team played their fourth game in the County League Division 2A against Glenbeigh/Glencar GAA on Monday Evening, March 20th.

In the first half, Ballymac hit the ground running with some crucial goals from Ciaran O’Connell & Luke Silles. Our lads work rate was high and continued up until the Half time whistle where Ballymac led 2-03 to 0-4.

Ballymac had to withstand constant pressure from Glenbeigh/Glencar who ferociously fought their way back into the contest and were back level midway through the second half.

However, our lads showed some great tenacity to turn the tide back in our favour with some great points taken but two decisive goals from the boots of Ciaran O’Connell and Luke Griffin which led us to a vital victory in the division.

Another resilient performance shown by the lads, and it was a most satisfying result for all those Ballymac people in attendance where it keeps our county league season very much alive.

Well done to our boys for the effort shown on the day.

Ciaran O’Connell (2-01), Luke Silles (1-01) Micheal Savage (0-04), Luke Griffin (1-00) Jack Slattery (0-02) Jack Joy (0-01) Jamie Burke (0-01)

Ballymacelligott GAA v Kenmare Shamrocks– Minor County League Div 8– Round 3

Kenmare Shamrocks B 1-08

Ballymac B 4-11

Our Minor B team played their third game of the County League Division 8 against Kenmare Shamrocks on Saturday afternoon, March 25th in Kenmare.

In the first half, Ballymac hit the ground running with some good early scores followed soon by a well worked goal finished off by Luke Silles. Minutes later Kenmare struck back with a goal of their own which brought the game back level.

However, our boys showed great composure to rally before the break. The Half Time score was Kenmare 1-03 Ballymac 1-06.

The second half was when our boys managed to put some good moves together in damp conditions. Further goals from Luke Griffin, Jack Collins & Luke Silles put the contest to bed.

A great performance by the boys on the road. This guarantees a semi-final with details to be confirmed. A notable mention for Eoin Joy who was marking a difficult opponent but kept him well marshalled throughout the encounter.

Well done to our boys for the effort shown on the day.

Luke Silles (2-00), Luke Griffin (1-02) Jamie Burke (0-03), Jack Collins (1-01), Conor Martin (0-02) Michael Quirke (0-01), Ciaran O’Connell (0-01), Alex O’Riordan (0-01)

Thanks to MTU for facilitating us at short notice and to all parents who made the trek up to North Campus.

This will continue for a few weeks due to the weather and the condition of both of our club pitches. This is to ensure the continuity of our academy and also facilitating all our girls and boys in one safe and clean location.

Health and Wellbeing

Update on our Tree Planting event, the sky cleared and the sun shone on Saturday 25th March for all the gardeners of Ballymacelligott GAA and Parish to start our planting of our first batch of 130 trees secured through Kerry County Council and National Tree Trust. We planted a variety of eight types of trees around the community walking path at the training grounds. We welcomed all families, the girl scouts and all age groups to join us to plant a tree for life for a couple of hours of planting.

A third and final batch of 1000 trees has been secured from Croke Park to our club. This is due to be delivered in the week ahead.  Once trees have arrived, we will be in touch with all of our community to announce a second day of planting. We look forward to seeing you then.
