Senior Team

The Credit Union SFL: Division 1 Round 5.

Dr Crokes: 0-14
Ballymacelligott 3-09

Seven minutes into the first half Ballymacelligott were leading by 1-1.  Crokes drew level ten minutes into the second half. The Ballymac lads did not falter. Dr. Crokes never took the lead.  Ballymac went on to win the game by four points despite the pressure from The Killarney side.

It was a fab day for football on Sunday afternoon in Lewis Road. The Pitch was perfect and there was a nice crowd despite the rally of the lakes and the resulting traffic jams.

Within seven minutes of the throw in Ballymac were in the lead by two points. Vinnie Horan got Ballymac’s second point, won the kick out, and played the ball to Donal Daly who found the back of the net.

Billy Courtney scored two points from frees for the home side. Three points followed from Ballymac.  One from play by Niall Collins. A free from Vinnie Horan following a foul on Adam Sheehy.

Dr. Crokes were heading for goal when Aidan Breen intercepted, passed the ball to Adam Sheehy who was again fouled and Aidan Breen made no mistake when he took the free and put the ball over the bar. With fifteen minutes gone, Ballymac were in the lead 1-05 to 0-2.

Two points from play from Brian Looney and Mikey Casey and a free taken by Billy Courtney reduced the visitors’ lead. In the twenty-fourth minute.

Things looked bleak for Ballymac when Dylan Dunne, who was having a superb game, was injured and had to be taken off.

A great turnover by Ballymac led to a point from Donal Daly, three more from Crokes followed. Aidan Breen scored a point from a free just before half-time. Half Time score: Dr. Crokes 0-8 Ballymac 1-07

A point each for both teams, followed by two points from play from Dr Crokes courtesy of Billy Courtney and Harry Potts brought the teams level going into the last quarter.

A great catch at centre field by Ballymac led to a great pass to Niall Collins from Vinnie Horan and Collins made no mistake and rattled the back of the net. Crokes were not perturbed and forged on up the field and a great save by Ballymac keeper Christy Leen stopped them from going into the lead.

Adam Sheehy had to go off injured and his replacement Adam Joy got a point with his first kick of the game from a ball from Eoin Creedon who had caught a ball intended for the opposition. A red card for Dr. Crokes meant they had 14 men for the last three minutes and five minutes of added time.

Crokes scored a point and the kick out was caught by Daire Keane who played a lovely ball to Vinnie Horan, who saw a clear path in front of him and scored a goal.

Another point from a free from Crokes just before the final whistle left the full-time score Dr Crokes 0-14 to Ballymacelligott 3-09.

This was a great team effort by the Ballymac lads with veterans Vinnie Horan, Aidan Breen, and Michéal Reidy leading the way with spirit and never say die attitude especially when it counted.

Brave and unselfish players like Adam Sheehy, Darragh Sweeney, Dan Shea, and Diarmuid Galvin, running off the ball and opening spaces for their teammates made a big difference to the overall team effort.

Well done to the team and management. Our deepest sympathies to our loyal physio Mark Thompson and his wife Aileen on the death of Aileen’s dad Maurice Roche. May he RIP.

We wish a speedy recovery to our players injured today: Dylan Dunne, Adam Sheehy, and Diarmuid Galvin.

Scorers: Niall Collins (1-1,) Vinnie Horan (1-4,) Aidan Breen (0-2) Donal Daly (1-1,) Adam Joy (0-1)

Ballymacelligott 4-11

Dromid Pearses 2-07

Our Minor Gold team played their first game in the Central Region Division 5 away to Dromid Pearses on Monday 24th April.

The first half of this game was an even affair with noting really between the teams and when the first half was played out the scores were tied at 1-04 a piece at the short whistle. The Ballymac goal coming in the 25th minute by Luke Griffin.

Ballymac really kicked into to gear after the break and put in a great team performance to score 3-07 in the second half.

The killer burst coming in a three-minute period between 48th and 51st minute with a goal from Ciarán O’Connell and a further two goals coming from Luke Griffin to complete his hat-trick.

From here Ballymac closed out the game in comfortable fashion to win by 10 points. In what was great scoring, it must be noted that Ballymac scored 4-10 from play out of the 4-11 scored in total.

Great credit must go to the lads who put the disappointment of the county league final defeat behind them from the previous week and got back to winning ways with an outstanding second half showing. The Gold team now have weeks break as they have a bye week.
