FAOI 12

Our Blue team had a very busy week this week as they played three games in five days. First up on Monday night was our final game in Div 1 Central Region where we welcomed Ballyheigue to Ballymac. In a ding dong battle throughout the game our boys put in a great performance on the night. Great credit must go to Ballyheigue who would be more known for the small ball, but in fairness they had some great passages of play and as hard as our boys tried they couldn’t pull away from them. All agreed a draw on the night was a fair result. Ballymac 2-10 Ballyheigue 1-13

Next up on Wednesday night we travelled to Ballyseedy to take on John Mitchels in Rd. 4 of Castleisland District League. After a disastrous first ten minutes of the game we were trailing 1-04 to no score.

With a few positional changes now our boys slowly got to grips with Mitchels and by the time the half time whistle came we were just trailing by two points.

Coaches on the night Jack, Liam, Eddie and Roland settled the boys down and one only knows what was said but they came out a different team and from the throw in took the game to Mitchels and out scored them to come away with a great victory. Final score on the night was Ballymac 1-16 to John Mitchels 1-11.

Two days later we travelled to Knocknagoshal to take on Knock/Brosna in final Rd of Castleisland District League. With a limited squad on the night due to various reasons great credit must go to the lads for coming away with a great victory and guarantees us a place in the Div1 Castleisland District final.

Their is no date set yet for the final but will be played in the next couple of weeks as we are waiting on some back games to be played to see you our opponents are. Result on the night Ballymac 2-12 Knock/Brosna 1-05

CAILINI FAOI 13

Our girls came out on top by a point on a scoreline of 2-9 to 2-8 in a tense, tight, enthralling contest in this County under 13 championship final in farranfore against our near neighbours Castleisland Desmonds. Down five points with ten minutes remaining the girls worked their way back into the game with a goal and five points to Desmonds two.

A big factor in this was the girls extra bit of fitness to see out the game right to the final whistle. Most of this group of girls have achieved so much now in our short history having a ladies club, adding this trophy to the county league under fourteen trophy three weeks ago, North kerry under twelve league trophy this year and last year’s county  under twelve trophy.

This victory was well deserved after travelling to South Kerry a couple of weeks ago and beating a very strong Inbhear Sceine Gaels team in the semi final. Cora Savage opened the scoring with a free followed by a point from player of the match Cait Rice. Desmonds levelled with two points of their own, one from Emma O Regan whose father James, played for Ballymac for many years.

After a good move and shot by Emily O Donoghue the ball broke to Cora Savage and she stuck it in the back of the net to give ballymac the lead by three points but Desmonds clawed this back to a point by halftime. The secondhalf started with Desmonds levelling, and they followed this with two goals to leave our girls trailing by six.

The girls responded with a goal from Ellie Mc Elligott, but Desmonds responded with two points for the remainder of the half to Ballymacs five. Cora, Emily and Aisling chipped in with points to leave one point between the teams with four minutes to go.

Cora Savage was fouled about thirty meters from goal and a well worked team free saw Caoimhe put the ball over the bar to draw the game. The girls gained possession after the kickout and worked their way into a scoring position again and Emily scored a point from the tightest of angles to the delight of everyone involved.

Best on the night  was Ellie Sugrue in goals, Sinead Mc Keown, Roisin Long , Eve Creedon in defence, midfielders Aisling and Caoimhe and Emily O Donoghue, Cora Savage, Ellie Mc Elligott in the forwards.

To the delight of the Ballymac players, management and supporters Caoimhe Carroll, captain, accepted the trophy on behalf of the team . Team; Ellie Sugrue, Millie Dunne , Roisin Long , Cathy Palmer  , Catriona Sommers, Sinead Mc Keown,  Eve Creedon, Aisling  O Connell, Caoimhe Carroll (c) , Cora Savage, Ellie Mc Elligott, Cait Rice, Lisa Curran, Emily O Donoghue, Caroline Hurley. Subs; Ellie Linehan, Laura Dunne, Kate O Connor,Jade Riordan,  Holly Geary, Aoife Galvin, Sophie O Donoghue.
