Ballymac GAA v Rathmore GAA – Minor – Club Championship A Shield Final
Ballymac GAA 1-16 (19)
Rathmore GAA 4-13 (25)
Our Minor team played Rathmore GAA in the Final of the Club Championship A shield on a cloudy evening in Fossa GAA pitch last Monday Evening, July 22nd.
In the first half, both teams went at it in a frantic, high paced game. It was an even affair for much of the opening period with both sides exchanging scores. Ballymac went into a 3 point lead initially and had early dominance of the first 15 minutes with the breeze. Rathmore, with their first meaningful attack, slotted away a goal which brought them right back into the mix.
Ballymac 0-08 Rathmore 1-06
In the second period, Ballymac brought it back level with a nice score from Michael Quirke. However, it was Rathmore who, especially at the centre of the field became dominant which provided the platform for their eventual victory.
Rathmore went on to bag 3 further goals to really impose their advantage. Our lads kept battling to the end but in the end to no avail with the Rathmore men running out the victors by 6 points.
This group of young men have been a credit to the club so far this season and, despite a disappointing defeat for both players and mentors, they can hold their heads up high with a bright future for themselves and the club overall.
We would like to wish all those from the club taking part in the St Kierans minors panel all the very best in the upcoming county minor championship.
