CUMANN NA MBUNSCOIL

Scoil Nuachabháil 4-7     Aghatubrid NS 0-7

The senior football team of Scoil Nuachabháil had an excellent, if hard-fought victory over a magnificent Aghatubrid side in the final of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 4 to 5 teacher school competition.

In a game played in wintry conditions, the skill levels were of a very high standard from both sides. The South Kerry champions began brightly and took the lead with an excellent point. Scoil Nuachabháil rallied and hit back with a goal from Thomas O Connor and three well taken points, from Adam Joy, without reply. Aghatubrid finished the half with a flourish and scored two unanswered points to leave the scores at 1-3 to 0-3 at half time.

In the second half Scoil Nuachabháil gradually took control of the game. There was some wonderful displays of point taking from both teams but as the saying goes ‘goals win matches’ and in this case it was never more true. Three goals, including two from substitute Donal Daly and a long range effort from Garry Lynch, put the game beyond a gallant Aghatubrid team. Scoil Nuachabháil clinched their first major football trophy in the school’s history.

It was a fantastic occasion for the school and thanks to trainer James McCarthy and to the organisers of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol competition for looking after the team so well. Many thanks also to the parents and pupils who travelled in huge numbers to Rathmore on such a wet evening.

Scoil Nuachabháil panel:

Cathal Ó Codlata , Seán Pollmann-Daamen, Séamus De Baille, Daragh Mac Suibhne (captaen), Gearóid Ó Loingsigh (1 -0) , Tim Pollmann-Daamen , Adam Ó Seoigh (0-6) ,  Adam Walker ,  Tomás Ó Conchúir (1-0),  Justin Mac Cárthaigh,  Adam Ó hArrachtáin

Subs:  Donal Ó Dálaigh (2-1),  Cáit Máire Ní Chonchúir,  Holly Ní Ghadhra , Seán De Rís ,  Eoin Ó Críodáin ,  Oisín Ó Seanacháin, Lorna Ní Dhálaigh

The Cumman na mBunscoil competitions have been of great benefit to our young footballers over the winter as they keep their skill level up.  As well as Scoil Nuachabhail great victory O Brennan and Clogher also competed while Andy Rogers and Mossie Brennan were part of the Caherleaheen team who reached the final of their section and Maurice O Connell was on Scoil Mhic Easmainn team who won out their section also.

CAILINI FAOI 16

This year for the first time we entered an U16 girls team in co League and North Kerry League . All the girls playing are actually U15 OR U14 so they are giving a years advantage to most teams they met . Credit to the girls though as they did their best to be competitive and represented the club quite well during the year .

In the Co League they played in Div 4 against Abbeydorney and Cromane on a home and away basis . In each of these games the girls played quite well and gave their opponents plenty to think about . However the extra year they were giving to them told in the end .
North Kerry League they played Dingle ,Abbeydorney and Kerins O Rahillys and again as in the Co League they fulfilled each fixture and played well .

The U15 C championship gave the girls something to aim for and played away to Beaufort in the semi final in October and came away with a 2-6 to 1-5 win to reach the final .

The final was delayed on a number of occasions for various reasons but was played on 15th Nov in horrendous conditions in Spa , a good first half saw both teams go in level at half time 1-3 to 0-6 a piece but on resumption of the 2nd half the wind increased significantly and we had trouble in trying to get the ball out from defense as a result , kick outs became a lottery as the wind played a big factor in this half . Spa ran out easy winners in the end but it wasn’t for the lack of effort from the Ballymac girls .

The one thing that was infuriating during the year for the girls and management was  the big gap between competitions and the Co League with Castlegregory pulling out didn’t provide enough games during the year and the 15th Nov is not a date were girls should be asked to tog out for a final , something for the co board to look at for 2016 .

Panel : Robin White , Tara Murphy , Claire Kenny , Roisin O Connell , Caoimhe Carroll , Niamh Rahilly , Aisling O Connell , Rose Ann O Shea , Therese Keane , Aine Rice , Rachel Godley , Leah O Neill , Mary Healy , Michalea Murphy , Elle Mc Elligott , Heather Jones , Maeve O Sullivan.

Many thanks to team coaches Teddy Murphy , James Godley & Anne Kenny for their time and commitment given to this group of girls.

WINNING STREAK
Congratulations to John Creagh our U 16 mentor who appeared on Winning Streak on behalf of his father Eugene on Saturday night last.   While John didn’t get a chance to spin the wheel he nevertheless came home with cash and a holiday.
