JUNIORS

Ballymac v St. Pats – Junior County League Rd 1 – May 20th 2016

A Ballymac side mixed with youth and experience entertained St. Pats in the first round of the Junior County League on Friday last in what proved to be an open competitive game of football. Michael Herlihy put Ballymac into an early lead in the first minute and followed up with another in the seventh.  St. Pats responded on the eight.

Mossy Leen tapped over a well worked team score just a minute later. Michael Herlihy once again got on the score sheet when he pounced on the end of a high ball on the edge of the square to raise the green flag. St Pats responded once more with a point before Christy Leen pointed from a free on the twentieth minute. The remainder of the first half belonged to the away team, scoring 1-2 without answer.

Ballymac trailed by two points at half time with a score line of 1-4 to 1-6.
Momentum shifted the way of the home side in the second half. The full back line of Con Reynolds, Gary Horan and Danny Madden along with the half backline marshalled by Alan Bonn, Sean Savage and Micheál Collins got to grips with the St. Pats forward’s whilst Ballymac’s midfield and forward line clicked into gear. Four points from Daniel O’Shea and another from Michael Herlihy had the homeside lead by 1-9 to 1-8 going into the final ten minutes.

William Casey brought the cushion to two with a fine score with five minutes to go before St. Pats responded with a free. This proved to be the final score of the game leaving Ballymac victorious by a point with a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-9.

Up next for the Juniors is an away trip to Ballydonoghue on Friday next May 27th.
