ERIC MASON MEMORIAL BLITZ

Last Saturday the 28th of May we had the fifth annual Eric Mason tournament which took place on a beautiful day for football. This tournament is in memory of Eric who was a keen footballer and passed to his eternal reward in 2011 at the age of 15 years.

Ballymac were joined on the day by Austin Stacks, Currow, Ardfert, Na Gaeil, and Castleisland Desmonds on the day. Some great football was played on the day which is a tribute to all the participating clubs. Ballymac and Ardfert started the proceedings and after a good game Ballymac won on a score line by 3-8 to 2-3.

In the next match Currow got the better of Desmonds on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-8. Currow also defeated Na Gaeil on a score line of 2-8 to 2-3 to win out their group. Ballymac won a close encounter with Austin Stacks on a scoreline of 1-08 to 1-02 to win their group.

In the first semi-final between Ballymac and Castleisland Desmonds the home team started well but Desmonds led by the player of the tournament Tadhg O’Shea moved clear in the second half to win by five points. In the second semi-final Austin Stacks and Currow played out a very entertaining game with Stacks narrowly coming out on top on a score line of 2-07 to 3-02.

The final pairing was now in place with Desmonds taking on Stacks. An excellent final ensued where neither side could be faulted for their endeavor.

Austin Stacks put together some beautiful passages of play and at the final whistle they were the deserving winners on a score line of 5-06 to 1-04 to claim the cup. Presentations were made by Adrian and Anna Mason to the Austin Stacks players, Castleisland Desmonds players, referees, and to the player of the tournament Tadgh O’Shea from Castleisland Desmonds.

Thanks to all the participating Clubs who contributed to a fantastic day of football.  A special thanks to all involved within the club and the parish that helped make this a very successful tournament.

FAOI 12
Blue Team
Our Blue team played Ardfert last Monday the 23rd of May in the second round of the division one county league. Ballymac got off to a great start, with Maurice O’ Connell scoring 1- 04 after ten mins.

Further points from Donal Daly and Andy Rodgers had us in a commanding position. Even though Ardfert hit 3 points on the trot, including 2 beautifully struck 45’s they never seemed to be able to close the gap on us. James Kenny added another goal and further points from Gary Lynch and Donal Daly sent us in at half time leading 2-11 to 0-03.

We continued the pressure in the second half with Eoin Creedon playing brilliantly from the back, helped by the ever improving Jamie Sugrue and Luke O’ Connell. Donal Daly was thriving at midfield, with Mark O Connor was also trying very hard, while subs Adam Wharton, Jared O’ Brien and Oisin Shanahan got valuable game time, and really got into the game from the word go.

We added another 1-05 in the second half compared to Ardfert’s 1- 04 to run out comprehensive winners on a score line of 3-16 to 1-08. Thanks to all parents for their support and well done to the team for an accomplished performance. We eventually ran out 3-16 to 1-08 winners.

Our blue team travelled to Fossa to take on the home side in round 3 of the division 1 county league. Fossa took the lead in the first minute and continued to impress in the first fifteen minutes , our boys were finding it difficult to get to the pace of the game.

However after a Gary Lynch goal against the run of play , we seemed to up our game , two further points from Maurice O Connell seem to settle us as we headed for the interval , leading 1 04 to 0 02 pts. In the second half we started brightly , and took the game to Fossa. Our defence were well on top , Jamie Sugrue Luke O Connell Mossie Brennan and Eoin Creedon were giving an exhibition on defending.

When James Kenny had the ball in the net, half way through the second half we sensed victory. Two beautifully struck frees by Donal Daly had us well in command , but score of the night went to Luke O Connell , who travelled the length of the pitch , having taken two or three passes , and scored a massive point.

Fossa  tried hard to rescue the game ,but two super saves by Kieran Slattery finally put paid to Fossa s chances. They did score a consolation goal in injury time , but we ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Ballymac 2 10 Fossa 1 05. Thanks to all the parents for their support , well done to the team on a fine result.

Gold Team

On Sunday the 29th of May we travelled to Fossa for our next league game. This was a good game but we lost on a score line of 3-13 to 3-09.

CAILINI FAOI 14
Round 4 of the county league saw Ballymac host Legion in Ballymac. The match threw in at 7.30 with the sun shining. Ballymac got off to a blistering start and notched up 1-4 before Legion got off the mark , Ballymac continued to dominate first half proceedings but there were signs that Legion were dangerous when they were left play. The sides reached half time with the scores 3-9 to 0-5 in favour of Ballymac.

The second half saw Legion come out all guns blazing and although Ballymac kicked the first score of the second half Legion replied with two quick goals. Ballymac kicked a further point before legion again pressed for two goals and four points leaving the home side trailing by one with time almost up.

A good move saw Ballymac work the ball from defence to full forward where Ballymac earned a free on the edge of the box, Under severe pressure Lisa Curran tapped over to leave the teams all square at the full time whistle. Final Score 3-12 Ballymac 4-9 Killarney Legion. Both were happy to come away with a draw.
