FAOI 10
The academy for our U10 panel didn’t take place last Sunday morning the 16th of October due to the inclement weather on the morning. The final academy of the year takes place next Sunday the 23rd of October. Throughout the season the lads have played some great football and have developed their skills. Well done to all involved with the squad on a very successful year.

FAOI 8
Last Sunday morning the academy was cancelled due to the weather with the final academy session of the season will take place next Sunday the 23rd of October. The Siobhan Cotter Blitz took place on Sunday morning the 09th of October in Churchill. Our U8 and U7 teams were competing on the day and we had a great turn out for the U7 boys in the October sunshine. In our first game we were up against a strong Austin Stacks side. The lads played brilliantly as a team and a cracker of a goal from the boot of Jack Collins got us off the mark. Goalkeeper Seadhna O’ Brien was kept on his toes by the sharp Stacks forwards. More goals from Ryan Burke and Darragh McMahon saw the lads earn a well-deserved win. Next up was Churchill who scored 2 early goals and although everybody tried their best we couldn’t close the gap and the home side ran out eventual winners. In our last game we had Ardfert and some brilliant team work and passing saw us run out eventual winners in a close contest. Well done to all the team, mentors, and families who supported the teams on the day.

FAOI 6
The final academy for the U6 Academy Boys & Girls will take place next Sunday the 23rd of October on the main pitch so come along and bring your water and gum shield.

CAILINI FAOI 14
Our U14 Ladies Blue team took on Castleisland Desmond’s in the final group game of the North Kerry League Division One campaign. Although neither team were in contention of winning the competition both teams played this game with a high level of intensity .

Earlier in the year when the teams met in the county league Ballymac suffered a heavy defeat mainly due to injuries as both teams fully fit are very well matched.Friday night it was Ballymac’s turn to have an almost fully fit squad although Roisin Long remains on the injury list.

Ballymac opened the scoring with Cora Savage pointing from outside the box. Full forward Lisa Curran quickly followed up with another point from play before Cora tapped over a close in free when Aisling O Connell was dragged down on route to goal. There was no stopping Kate O’ Connor’s Goal bound effort moments later. Cora Savage again tapped over another free, followed by a netbusting goal from the boot of Emily O’Donoghue after she side stepped a couple of defenders. Cora Savage again tapped over a point from play and she was becoming a real thorn in the
Desmonds side. Castleisland got off the mark with two well worked points from play and this was followed with a very fortuitous goal moments later. This was to complete Castleisland’s a scoring for the half however Ballymac tagged on three more points from the boots of Cora Savage, Lisa Curran & Kate O Connor.

Ballymac started the second half with as much hunger for scores as they finished the first, from the restart Cora Savage and Lisa Curran quickly pointed. The Ballymac rearguard was playing with real efficiency recycling every
defence into attack, this was reflected by the fact that they conceded but a solitary score a goal in the dying minutes of the second half. At the other end of the pitch the forwards were scoring quiet fluidly with two goals from Cora Savage and a point a piece from Lisa Curran, Kate O Connor Ellie McElligott & Emily O Donoghue.

The final score read 5:13 Ballymac to 2:02 Castleisland Desmond’s

The result throws up a plate final to be contested in a couple of weeks time between the teams. Having beaten this Castleisland team in the past two years first in an u12 final and the following year in an u13 final Ballymac will be hoping to make it three in a row. Details of the final will be communicated when we know them but it certainly would be one to put in your diary as they have not disappointed in the past and support is the 16th man.

The Ballymac team on Friday night was as follows:
in goals Ellie Sugrue
Full back line Sophie O Donoghue, Caoimhe O Carroll, Aoife Galvin,
Half backs Emily O’Brien, Eve Creedon & Cathy Palmer,
Mid Field, Aisling O’Connell & Sinead McKeown,
Half Forwards: Ellie McElligott, Emily O’Donoghue & Cait Rice.
Full Forwards: Kate O’Connor, Lisa Curran & Cora Savage.
Subs Holly Geary,Mary Ann Fleming & Ellie Lenihan.

Scorers : Cora Savage 3:05, Lisa Curran 0:04, Kate O’Connor 1:02, Emily O’Donoghue 1:01, Ellie McElligott 0:01

CAILINI FAOI 12 YEAR REVIEW
The girls were placed in Division 1 of the North Kerry League for 2016. They began in early March with with a victory away to Castleisland Desmonds followed by defeat in Abbeydorney. A defeat to Austin Stacks away was followed by victory in the final group game at home to Listowel. This left the girls in the Division 1 Shield final versus Austin Stacks. The county league prelim rounds began in early April. The girls had wins over Legion, Scartaglin and Southern Gaels and defeats to Beaufort and Cromane. Following these results the girls were placed in Division 2 of the County League proper. This was a big step up for the girls but they rose to the challenge really well. They began with a great victory over Beaufort at home, then lost out to Firies following a great battle. The girls got back on track with wins over Corca Dhuine, Dr. Crokes and Beale/Ballyduff. These results meant a home semi final against Beaufort. This was always going to be a huge battle after a loss and a win against them already. What a game it turned out to be and after an incredible performance full of heart and spirit Ballymac won on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-02. The final was against local rivals Firies. Following a long delay the game was played on 26th July (5 weeks after the semi final) in Connolly Park Tralee. The game was played on probably the worst day of the year with driving wind and rain. Firies got of to much the better start and were ahead by 12 points at half time. To Ballymac’s credit they gave it everything in the second half to eventually lose on a scoreline of Firies 4-04 to Ballymac 2-05. There was then a 2 month delay to the final of the North Kerry League. The girls played Stacks and were beaten by a very strong team who had barely lost the Div. 1 county league final a few days earlier.

So to sum up, the loss of two finals was very disappointing but when one considers that it was North Kerry Div 1 and County League Div 2 it was a fantastic achievement. These girls are the first team in the Ballymac ladies club history to appear in a Division 2 final. The team coaches Siobhan, Anthony, Ger and Mike are so proud of this wonderful bunch of girls and the future is very bright for the club going forward.
