Ballyseedy Massacre Commemorations To Take Place On Sunday

THERE will be two Ballyseedy Massacre commemorations held on this Sunday.

An event is being organised by the Ballyseedy Memorial Committee and the National Graves Association at 3.30pm. This commemoration is not affiliated to any political parties or groups.

The organisers have requested that party/political banners/posters are not brought to the commemoration. The main road from Ballygarry Roundabout to Ballyseedy Roundabout will be closed to traffic, but parking will be possible in the vicinity of the monument.

They ask that people assemble at the monument from 3pm with the event getting underway at 3.30pm.

Meanwhile Sinn Féin Kerry are holding their commemoration at 12 noon on the same day.  Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD will deliver the main oration.

Dr. Richard McElligott will also speak and give a historical perspective of the period and the terrible events of March 1923.

People are asked to follow the direction of the stewards who will be wearing hi-vis jackets on the day. Parking will be available and drop offs will be facilitated for people with mobility issues.
